this morning. a little breeze out there. not as cold as yesterday morning. temperatures in the upper 40s to lower 50s. my love their -- mild weather continues on. we do have what weather on the way. it looks like the next system will arrive early wednesday morning. looks like a possibility for unsettled weather will continue on next week. full details on that in 15 minutes. >> thanks, erica. we start with breaking news this morning in san francisco were police investigate a fatal stabbing this morning. it was around 8:30 last night. officers arrived to find a man lying on the sidewalk. witnesses tell us that paramedics performed cpr before transporting the victim where he died from his injuries. police have not identified the victim and have no suspect

information at this time. police in walnut creek are continuing to investigate a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries. the accident happened just before 7:00 last night at the intersection of walnut avenue and hutchinson road near the ygnacio trail. police say a dark-colored suv struck the victim and then just took off. officers say no other information on the driver or vehicle was available. a woman suffering life-threatening injuries after being hit by a pickup truck in san francisco potrero hill area. the woman was hit shortly before 6:00 last night on 25th and utah street. police say the woman was in the crosswalk at the time and the truck hit her while making a left turn. right now police have not said whether the driver was cited. in world news this morning, islamic faith militants are claiming to have killed the american hostage. isis posted a video and photos. they reportedly show that

beheaded remains. their claims have not been verified but a white house spokeswoman acknowledged the video and says intelligence officials are working to determine its authenticity. isis threatened to kill him in a video released last month. he would be the fifth western hostage killed by the islamic state. he was captured in october of 2013 as he was providing aid to syrian rebels were refugees. he was also an army veteran who served in iraq back into thousand seven. this morning the police departments across the country preparing for a grand jury verdict in the ferguson-missouri shooting case. the jury is deciding to whether -- the decision is expected any day now. cities such as boston and l.a. are bracing for large demonstrations. a rally has already been planned for the strip thomas vegas as well. no word yet if any demonstrations are planned for the bay area.

of life for hannah graham in virginia on saturday. crews found the university of virginia students remains last month after she disappeared in september but friends didn't want to remember her death. instead, they spoke about her humor, intelligence, and kindness. graham's parents went to celebration and thank everyone for their support. saturday will mark the 10- year anniversary of the clinton library. to celebrate, hillary and chelsea clinton talked about an initiative called no stealing. it's given working mothers a chance to earn college degrees and in truth childcare options. last month chelsea gave birth to bill and hillary's first grandchild. a baby girl name charlotte. >> you can now enroll in covered

california for the next year. dozens of people attended an enrollment even in san francisco's golden gate park saturday. covered california is the states exchange as part of the affordable care act. in its first year, about 1.3 million californians enrolled in the program. the goal is not to increase that to 1.7 million for next year. kron 4 asked the event hosts about improvements in covered california second year. >> obviously, anytime you have something for the first year, you're going to bumps in the road. we know you we need to do a better job of translations. now that it's out there, we think more and more people are going to come. >> enrollment in covered california only lasts for three months rather than six months last year. enrollment and savior 15. >> and good morning. live in the weather center, a little breezy as we take a live look. all of the details on the rest of your we can forecast when we return.

>> an unusually early snowfall makes for sledding on mount hood in oregon. take a look at the fun most of their having. snow lovers using inflatable rafts and tubes to fly down the hills near the ski slopes. resort operators say this is the earliest they've ever opened and they're hoping for one more good snowstorm before turning on the ski lifts. was moved to the midwest where they're having some or wintry weather hitting the region this weekend. this video is from kansas just north of topeka where they expect a high today of 28 degrees. snow is covering a lot of the roads and areas. that makes for some tough driving. this is really just the beginning of the snow season in this part of the country. we are expecting another beautiful day with some changes next week. >> that's right, marty. if you like sunshine and warmer weather, the upper 60s and low 70s we've been enjoying, that will continue on until about

tuesday and beyond that unsettled weather enters the bay area and we have the chance for pretty much each and every day as we head into next weekend. right now to some high clouds out there making for a gorgeous sunrise. temperatures right now in the 40s and 50s. santa rosa, one of the cooler spots at 42. 49 in san jose. so it looks like temperatures for the most part will be in the 60s approaching lunchtime and it looks like we could see a few low 70s developed by 3:00 this afternoon. a little warmer today. evergreen 72, 68 in cupertino. lots of sunshine and then nice and mild in the east bay. take a look at richmond. 66 in walnut creek, 64 in danville area downtown san francisco a high of 68. i think we'll see a few low 70s developed north of the golden gate bridge. we have this ridge of high pressure in place but your modus activity offshore. we could see a few sprinkles enter the extreme north bay but i think for the most part will maintain dry conditions.

but whether as we head into next week. so sprinkles perhaps in the north bay later on today. storm number 2 approaches as we head into about wednesday morning. and testing -- anticipating a half inch or less amenable to more rain arrives as we head into late friday and saturday. so you'll see that on your forecast. gear up for what weather on the way. looks like we could also experience thunderstorms as we head into thursday so keep the umbrellas handy. >> more snow for the sierra. thank you. the holidays fast approaching, so the bay area retailers are bracing for large crowds that might include some speeds. >> reporter: we are less than two weeks away from thanksgiving and black friday. that means a while -- malls like the fun valley shopping center will soon be flooded with customers. >> we see a lot of people coming with shopping lists in hand and

leading duffel bags. everybody's getting in the mood. >> in order to avoid burning the holiday spirit, the malls general manager says he's one step ahead of the criminals by reinforcing his security staff for the shopping season. >> we have a lot more people in the shopping center, a lot more cars. with that comes some additional criminal activity but we work closely with the police department, so we feel that we have the situation well managed. >> still -- >> i met the stopping centers tends to be a crime of opportunity. >> family says the bulk of holiday crime happens in the parking lot while shoppers are inside the mall and sometimes unknowingly leave their cars ballmer wrote to thrust -- to theft. >> the only things in plain view in your car. don't leave packages in the backseat visible.

seven days will have to buy a permit for $20. the permit will act like a temporary visa. the mexican officials say it will help them keep better track of travelers visiting for longer periods of time but people on both sides of the border are not happy with this new fee. >> reporter: it doesn't sound very smart. the economy isn't doing very well in the fees start. >> only those crossing on foot are being charged right now. mexican officials say the fee could soon be extended to the vehicle lanes at those stops as well. >> and oregon woman in the southeast asian jail for what she says of the crime she did not commit. she's a veterinarian and world traveler who's visiting east timor earlier this year when she was arrested. her adventure was interrupted when police surrounded the taxi she was sharing with a stranger.

week. here's erika. >> good morning. for the next couple days, sunshine dry conditions. it's a little warmer. we'll see plenty of 70s between thought they and north bay. in the middle of the week, that's when the changes arrive. we'll see a building cloud cover and rain back in the forecast. camera rocking and rolling as we take a live look overlooking the bay bridge span, so it's a little breezy higher up three of fog is really not affected this morning. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. santa rosa the cool spot. 46 in concord. low to mid 50s along the eastern shoreline. so grab a jacket. looks like most locations in the mid to upper 60s. it looks like a bit of a warming trend as we head into early next week. what weather back in the picture. that will arrive wednesday and carry into next week.

>> developing news this morning. over 150 residents in south san francisco waking up without power this morning after that car that you see their crashed into a power pole and then eventually landing in someone's front yard. it happened on eucalyptus avenue near palm way. officers say that a 20-year-old san francisco resident by the name of juan lopez was speeding down the street. he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the power pole and many try to run away from the scene according to police but he was caught a short distance away. officers then investigated and found he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. pgn he is working on restoring power and they expect to be finished by this afternoon. no word on the cause of the crash. we do have a crew on the scene and are working to get the latest information for you. >> a san jose man behind bars for sending threatening letters to strangers because of their race and sexual orientation. authorities say the 52-year-old man sent death threats and even

bullets to as many as 16 people. copies were sometimes sent to relatives or even coworkers of the victims. prosecutors say they don't yet know how the man choses target. his first court appearance is for tomorrow. >> no valid police looking for a man they say hit another man with his car at a bright a parking lot on friday. police say the suspect vehicle is a green honda suv with the license number you see on your screen. officers say it appears the suspect intentionally hit the victim after the two got into an argument over panhandling. police say the victim was standing behind the suv when she was hit. no word on his condition. the national news. for people dead, another hospitalized after a chemical leak in texas. it happened early saturday morning. the company that operates says the valve failed and released a chemical gas used to make insecticide. five workers were exposed to

the gas, four of them died. the company officials say they're workers did nothing wrong. they took about two hours to shut off the gas and the company is now investigating why that they'll malfunctioned. >> a surgeon diagnosed with ebola virus arrived at omaha, nebraska yesterday for treatment. he contracted ebola while working in sierra leone. he's married to an american and as a permanent resident of the u.s. but was working with patients in his home country. the team that was carrying for him -- the team that was caring for him says he's critically ill. the nebraska medical center has successfully treated to ebola patient. back in the bay area, a mountain lion spotted saturday in san mateo county. according to the sheriffs department, the lion was seen around 7:30 last night in the emerald lake hills neighborhood west of redwood city. officials warn that anyone who sees a mountain lion should not approach it and avoid hiking or jogging in the area.

>> well, less than two weeks away from black friday. christina explains how retailers are planning to get you to spend your hard earned dollars. >> reporter: with thanksgiving around the corner, retailers are gearing up for a battle. and here's why. stores can make up to 40 percent of their annual profits in just the last six weeks of the year. but there's a problem these days. the shopping holiday season isn't what it once was.

in 2004, sales grew nearly 7 percent. in 2013, the sales increase was less than half that. this year retailers have a little bit of unique opportunity. low gas prices. people have a little extra spending money. so with billions of dollars at stake, there's a few strategies at brick-and-mortar stores to get a piece of the action. one, retailers are rolling out promotions early. more people are shopping in november before black friday, so names like are promoting pre- black friday sales. kmart and radioshack are opening stores on thanksgiving morning. two, minimize wait times. stores are increasing staff and mobile checkouts. the fact is, shoppers are more valuable than ever before, so stores are really working hard to keep the happy. three, focus on online sales. researcher npd group says 60 percent of consumers plan to

shop online this year, so expect more special online and mobile deals and fewer shipping fees. but at the end of the day, these tactics can only go so far. ultimately, what people spend and where they spend it comes down to a feeling, how they feel about their jobs, the economy, and how much money is in their pocket. in new york, i'm christina alessi. >> one mall is forcing its stores to open on thanksgiving. mall management told them it's mandatory to open at 6:00 p.m. when the rest of the mall opens. if they choose not to open on that holiday during the normal hours, they could be facing a fine. that's fine could run up to $20 for each hour they are not open. general manager of the mall has not yet responded to comment on this issue. straightahead, a woman declared dead comes back to life at a funeral home. we'll have that story coming up. >> and a live look outside. it's a bit breezy out there, especially in the oakland hills and north bay hills. more details on the changes
