supper bowl city tonight after it reached -- super bowl city tonight after it reached capacity. >> super bowl weekend arrived and it is starting with a bang. tens of thousands of people showed up along the embarcadero for a free concert and a fireworks show that expected to begin any moment. >> it is a chilly night out there. beautiful, just a couple of clouds. we are awaiting the fireworks any minute now to begin. they are supposed to start against at 9:00 tonight. the city is buzzing this evening with super bowl parties and events. ktvu is live at super bowl city where so many people showed up tonight. the police to close the gate. >> reporter: it is a huge crowd down here. i want to show you we are not far away from the gate. you can see it over there. there are people lined up along the embarcadero.

presence down here. about 8:45 tonight started rolling through with cars on speakers telling people that they had to move away from the area because the capacity was so large they were closing down the super bowl city. right now the crowd is just here waiting to spill out on the sraoets waiting for -- streets waiting for the fireworks to begin. >> reporter: all night, lines were long. everyone going through security. >> the city was fired up. the super bowl touched down with friday night-lights like san francisco has never seen before. as we saw, basically the crowd doubled and tripled. people are showing up now as we head towards the weekend. 65 degrees for a day time high. not needing the jacket. how about super bowl game day. check it out. noon, get there, going, 70 degrees, 74 degrees at kickoff. about 2nd half here at 69. 70 degrees,a at the end of the game you are in the low 60s. you could not ask for a better day to play football. we will talk more about the super bowl and we will see you here in a little bit. >> reminder, you can download the news app and click on it for updates all weekend long. >> the police in san francisco are confirming tickets from a hotel near union square. sources say more than $40,000 worth of tickets were stolen from the hotel. the hotel had the tickets in a conference room. they were there for customers who purchased packaged deals that included a room and a game ticket. the police say four men entered the conference room at 5:15

now, officers are warning the public. they say, buyer be aware. punch them only from authorized sellers. this weekend, san francisco filmmaker is using the super bowl as a backdrop to send a message. he is using a projector to put a spotlight on the housing crisis. amber lee is in the news room will with what is called a gorilla protest. >> reporter: the man behind the protest is a san francisco documentary filmmaker. he says super bowl week provides the perfect stage to bring attention to what he describes as a crisis confronts many people. conviction of tenants in the city. >> it does not hurt anything. they are very big, very visual. they are eye catching. >> it is a silent pro test. >> moving billboard you don't have to worry about. not graffiti. >> reporter: this documentary

disrupt not people's lives but their thoughts. he and a small crew, with the help of a vehicle and a projector put their message about what they call immoral evictions on the sides of buildings. >> we leave them up for 10-15 minutes a building and move on. >> reporter: he started projecting his message on wednesday with a play on words. this is not a game. he says they are playing with people's lives. >> we were just hoping on get people to ask questions. >> he says he seen friend after friend get evicted. legal but often immoral. >> it got to be alarming in the last year or two. >> he tells us he heard about the 60-year-old tenant through word-of-mouth. he suffered from aids. he is fighting eviction after living in this flat for 20 years. >> i don't know when it is going to happen to me. the protest gives him a voice. >> i am grateful, other people decided to help to see if i don't lose my home.

>> this is the buick. the 37-year-old wanted parolee had been sleeping before he sufficient fold with the police early this morning in a confrontation that ended in his death. a resident that did not want to be identified. >> it is scary. scary. way too chose to home. >> the police say he was a convicted felon who fought with officers. the authorities launched an investigation but neighbors are upset that he died while in police custody. >> the car that was in front of the white car did not have red and blues on. had the pwroeut -- had the bright lights on. i mean, you will be startled. i don't know, i don't know if he gave up a fight or what. i did not see that. but, the passenger he watched it all. he watched his friend get beat. >> reporter: the story begins at 8:20 on wednesday night. when he walked out of a local hospital against the doctor's orders.

what he was treated for. >> antioch police searched for him who, they say, has a long history of violent crimes and drug offenses but could not find him. just before 3:15 this morning the officers found him and a second man sitting in this buick parked at the dead of east 6th street. while officers try to arrest him, he fought with them and got hurt. as an ambulance arrived he began having medical issues. >> 91 respond for medical. medical east 6th street. cpr in progress. >> next thing i know i looked back down there, my god, tyler, they are doing cpr on this dude. he was like no way, i was like yeah, they are doing cpr on him. >> the officer suffered minor injuries, the second man was not involved in the confrontation and is cooperating.

and the da's office is investigating. henry lee, ktvu fox 2 news. the highway patrol want thes the public to know the officer who was stabbed on tuesday is on the mend. they posted this picture of the officer smiling from his hospital bed and holding his badge. sanfrancisco police made sure he got his badge back. they are holding his clothing for evidence. the police say the officer was stabbed in the neck by a homeless man. in a pace book post, he thanked san francisco police for helping him and arresting the suspect. >> now, san ran police chief announced the release of a man abstained by federal agents. he is seen here with his fiancee on wednesday after his release from a jail on contra costa county. detained by the police in early december after reporting his car stolen. then he was turned over to immigration agents. that could be a violation of
