hello and thanks for joining us. fox 10 news at 9:00 starts now. thanks for joining us tonight. first on fox, new developments in the case of that family dog that was shot and killed during a burglary. >> this is a story that we first brought to you last week, and police have now made an arrest in this case, and they are also lookinfo suspect. >> stefania okolie joins us live from the phoenix police headquarters with the latest tonight. stefania? >> yeah, that's right, kari and marc. police worked rather fast since they released those surveillance images last week of that suspected burglar who was wanted in connection with robbery in north phoenix in the crest view neighborhood. tonight one of those suspected burglars is off the street, but police are still looking for one other man. police say this man, brian

that ended in the crest view neighborhood in north phoenix. perry told me he and his 13-year-old son found their dog, phoebe, shot and killed in their backyard. police say they were tipped off after someone saw the police surveillance video last week. police say the suspect went into the walmart and used the credit card stolen from the victims' home. as for who fatally family's 7-year-old mixed boxer, he say it wasn't him but was an accomplice. the molars say they were robbed of their happiness when phoebe's life was taken. >> he should have shame for himself that he is no respect for life. >> now, we stopped by the family's home earlier today.

camera. perry, the father, told me that they are obviously extremely happy that police were able to get this suspected burglar off the street. meanwhile, if what the suspected burglar is saying is true, police, yes, are still looking for another man. again, we are told that man's name is bobby. we don't have a description. but if we do get one, we'll be sure to let you know. if you have any information on who may be that second person wanted by police, you are asked to call the silent witness line at 480-witness. li okolie, fox 10 news. i should have made better decisions for our family, you know, so then my son like -- so my son would be okay right now. >> a man speaks to fox 10 behind bars after he and his girlfriend allegedly left her five-year-old son in a car so they could gamble at casino arizona in scottsdale. investigators say brad porter and jessica lopez smelled like alcohol when they made contact with them earlier this morning. they also found marijuana and

safety has been contacted in this case, but it's not clear if they have custody of that child. new information tonight about a crash that killed three people in phoenix. the youngest victim just 17 years old. police say worth, aguilar, and agmayo aguilar were racing at central and butler overnight. jessie and jesus were then ejected from another car that caught fire after hitting another tree. >> move one of the people on the ground and couldn't really because the flames were so high. absolutely awful, and i just -- i think about their mothers and their families and having to become aware of that and going through that. >> and again, police say the victims were driving up to 80 miles an hour and they were not wearing seat belts. >> a man arrested in phoenix after police say that he stole a

thankfully, there were no passengers on board the small circulator bus. the vehicle loops right through neighborhoods to connect passengers to local bus service. during that joyride, police say the suspect hit another car in peoria but no one was hurt. the man stopped at the bus in a field near grand avenue and thunderbird where he surrendered and was arrested. you decide 2016, arizona senator john mccain and challenger ann kirkpatrick facing off tonight in their one and only debate before the >> and it was donald trump who became a focal point of this debate. andrew hasbun joins us live to explain tonight. andrew? >> good evening, kari. the debate happened here at the walter cronkite school in the arizona pbs studios and it lasted an hour. the candidates focus on a number of issues, but as you mentioned, john mccain's support and now nonsupport of donald trump was a major topic at tonight's debate.

term in the u.s. senate. he made it through a hotly contested primary and is now up against ann kirkpatrick, who has been a congresswoman in arizona for a number of terms, and she too has gone through some pretty intense races in her political career. this was their first and only debate. they talked about immigration. they both voiced their support and opposition for raising minimum wage, but the sharpest attacks came when they started talking about donald trump and over the weekend and that tape came out. ann kirkpatrick pounced on that. here's a little sample of what happened tonight. >> when mr. trump attacks women and demeans the women in our nation and in our society, that is a point where i just have to part company. it's not pleasant for me to renounce the nominee of my party. >> for over a year, john mccain

trump, over 60 times has endorsed him. so it wasn't enough when trump insulted the khan family, a gold star family who called on john mccain to renounce trump. it wasn't enough when trump made fun of a disabled reporter. >> reporter: after the debate, ann kirkpatrick did not take any questions from reporters. she just left the building here. john mccain didn't take any questions either, but he did come out and make a debate. >> it was an excellent debate, and i enjoyed the topics. i think that they were well covered, and i believe that congresswoman kirkpatrick did a good job. i think we were able to define a lot of the differences between the two of us, and so we'll see what happens in a few weeks. >> reporter: and john mccain was pressed on who he would support

unendorsed donald trump, and he told the moderators tonight that he is considering writing in his good friend lindsay graham, the long time senator from south carolina. reporting live in downtown phoenix, andrew hasbun, fox 10 news. happening right now, last minute voter registration at both the g.o.p. and democratic party headquarters in phoenix. you are looking at some of what is going on tonight. today, as you know, was the last day to register to vote if you would like to take part in the november general election. procrastinators, it is not too late, but the time is running out. you have until midnight, a little less than three hours from right now to register. you can either go to the g.o.p. or democratic headquarters to register, or you can register at servicearizona.com. well, a big storm that brought a lot of rain and hail to safford over the weekend is now forcing schools to cancel classes for the rest of the

district there are dealing with flood damage. they will reopen monday october 24th. it's really starting to feel like fall out there, but was that kind of short-lived? because it did heat up a little bit today. some pretty toasty weather in the valley this week. >> kristy siefkin joins us now with her first forecast and how it compares to other parts of the country where they are getting their first freeze. >> very different as you look out to the west coast and the east coast. ri sleeves today, but it was just too warm out there. many of you probably dried the same thing. a flat ridge through northern mexico influencing the forecast in our area, warm and dry conditions the next several days. yesterday's temps at this time compared to now, places like the grand canyon a whole 15 degrees cooler, seven degrees cooler into flag and kingman, six

all in all, arizona warmer than what we saw yesterday, but very different conditions in a couple of places in the country. in fact, we are seeing freezing weather and snow in a couple of places including in the intermountain west, through parts of montana, through parts of idaho, all of these reports just north of great falls are snowfall, anywhere from a couple of inches to one location looking at eight inches. very cold weather, and freeze warnings in effect tonight until tuesday at noon. we'll have more about the local forecast and a warming trend a few minutes later at show. cussing at work, is it ever okay to do that? never, right, marc? >> never. >> a new study shows which age group are the biggest offenders. >> are we going to blame the millennials again? >> we'll see.

odds are evel knievel, probably one of the most famous people of our childhood. >> absolutely, yeah. >> everyone knows e if you grew up during a certain time. the famous daredevil and all of his wild stunts, but you probably haven't heard of eddie brawn. you may recognize his work, however. >> yeah, brawn has been one of hollywood's biggest stuntmen for 34 years now. he's appeared in hundreds of tv shows and movies, but with his stunt career winding down, brawn decided to try to pull off a stunt that even evel knievel couldn't complete.

ten years old. i met evel knievel. this is a man who wore a cape, a superhero in -- incarnate. >> he watched him attempt to ride a rocket over snake river canyon. although the jump failed and knievel almost died, brawn was hooked. and 34 years later, he found himself in nearly the same spot and the same rocket. >> the only change is t change in the parachute technology. as you know, evel knievel was not successful because his parachute deployed early. other than the same slight changes -- >> four years of planning for a jump that took just seconds. >> before i realized i pushed the button completely, i was already smoking, moving. it was riding a controlled eplosion is basically what it was. >> but instantly hitting

dollars -- $1.9 billion. lawmakers are considering an increase to a room tax. the raiders are considering moving to vegas, and if they do, they would also provide funds for that project. >> i think that we are looking for is jobs and construction and increased tourism and increased visitation, and that's what this bill is intended to do, and i think it accomplishes that. i think it's easier for these folks to do this because they can vote for one bill that creates a lot of jobs in construction. >> lawmakers believe that the tax increase would bring project. some big changes are coming to the nfl, at least when it comes to social media. starting wednesday, teams can be fined up to $1,000 if they break the new rules. from kickoff to an hour after the game, teams can no longer post their own video to social media. they can only repost nfl videos from twitter and snapchat.

>> really a tough few days in the southeast. the hurricane being blamed for 11 deaths in north carolina alone, and three people are still missing. rescue teams, they're searching mode in the flood waters, and they are continuing to pose, those flood waters, a safety risk to some areas, the flooding expected to be a week long problem. even though the storm is gone, the flooding remains. 23 deaths have been reported in the united states all together. matthew, however, dealt the hardest blow to haiti where nearly a thousand people have been killed. your exclusive accuweather forecast with kristy siefkin on fox 10 news. north carolina and south carolina are still recovering from matthew, we have yet another storm system for you right now, just a tropical storm named nicole. the winds are about 60 miles an hour right now but they are expected to increase for triple digit territory as we get into the next few days.

bermuda. it's not clear right now if it will make landfall or not. you notice it's a pretty far distance from the u.s. coastline where nicole is expected to move, but even as it increases in strength to a hurricane, we are only expecting it to be a category 1. that of course will change. we'll be keeping an eye on it for you. in terms of temps here, they are just fantastic. sky harbor at 88 degrees. very light winds, about five miles an hour, and the picture for us the next few days, it's calm, it's quiet, and it's so if you are looking forward to more fall like conditions, we are going to have to wait a little bit longer. just a quick look at the dew points and a strong reminder that we are out of monsoon season. take a look at these numbers in the 30s tonight through northern arizona. so definitely dry out there, calm out there, and right now we are looking at very pleasant temps in places like casa grande, 79 degrees there, we are seeing 83 for yuma, 84 for bullhead city, 64 into douglas, a little bit cooler into st. john's at 58, page looking

right here in the valley we are looking at 79 for deer valley, seven for apache junction -- 77 for apache junction, goodyear at 82 degrees, surprise at 78. today coming in above the seasonal norm, five degrees above it though a far cry from the record temp that we set back in 1991 when we hit 105 for our high. i talked to you already about the snow that we are seeing in parts of the intermountain west in addition to parts of new england with very cold conditions there. for tomorrow mosof activity we'll see in the middle of the country will come in the form of rain showers, the upper plains extending all the way into the great lakes region. tonight temperatures will cool into upper 40s for winslow, 70 for yuma, bullhead city you'll be at 70 as well, and douglas in the low 50s. and tomorrow that red contour on our map, it's not quite as strong as the past few days. we will numbers from anywhere

it was a raucous debate. i think you can safely say that. donald trump and hillary clinton meeting on the debate stage for the second time last night in st. louis missouri. >> yeah, that debate had quite a few zingers and it drew a lot of controversy. for the second debate, it only drew about 66 million.

chairman reince priebus said he and his party are standing with donald trump. the real winner of last night's debate might be this guy. recognize him? kenneth bone. he was one of the undecided voters in the audience who got to ask a question of the candidates, but his question about energy and the environment is what turned him into an internet darling. it really wasn't the question. it was more of his appearance. people loved his outfit, his sweater, and his the red sweater he is wearing has sold out online, and it's inspiring a halloween costume craze. kenneth bone said he didn't plan to wear the sweater, but he had to change when he accidentally split his pantsuit. he's adorable. somebody said he looked like a hug. >> he is going to be a character on saturday night live, i have a feeling. a special moment at donald trump's rally tonight in

gun and perceived him to be a threat. mahin khan pleaded guilty to several terror and weapons-related charges. he will be sentenced on november 4th. prosecutors say he faces at least five years in prison. he orjd planned to blow up the mvd office. prosecutors also say that khan was talking online with somebod i.s.i.s. several vehicles were vandalized in the piestewa peak parking lot, and police tonight say they are searching for suspects. windows were smashed out on four different cars in the parking lot and a fifth car was keyed. people who hike at piestewa regularly were shocked to hear about the smash and grabs at the mountain. >> i feel safe around here until something like this happens. it's very tragic, you know.

good time, sometimes, go up there, enjoy the view. to hear about this, it makes me think about like i have to take my belongings with me or not bring them at all. >> if you have any information on this case, if you saw anything out there or you're hiking, you are being asked to call phoenix police. two young kids went missing, but we have great news in the fox follow-up missing cases in the valley. timgoy dak disappeared, she was record missing last night. after hours of searching, police located the little girl this afternoon. the circumstances around her disappearance are unclear right now, and this case is being investigated. also a nine-year-old girl who went missing from her mesa home last night has also been located. police tell us that they showed up at her home this morning, and

out exactly where she was overnight. today marks the first indigenous people's day in phoenix. the city council voted on that matter last week. phoenix is now the largest city to recognize the day. tonight a crowd gathered to celebrate the day and also discuss the problems that are still facing native american communities. >> how are we continuing to hurt our land, our people, and, you know, so we asked people to realize how much trash are they throwing away, how muc unhealthy food are they eating and consuming, and what kind of bad and negative thoughts enter our mind on a daily basis, and if we change all those, will we be more proactive as a community. >> all right. time to your check your freezers, because we have a big call on a pretty tasty treat. which products are being affected? we'll lay it out for you. plus, kristy siefkin is back in the weather center for us with a look at your wake up

samsung is officially well, samsung cannot catch a break. they are officially halting the sales of their galaxy note 7 smartphones as the number of them catching fire continues to grow. this is a real growing safety concern. it continues to go for the original note 7s and the replacements as the problem started in august with a few isolated incidents that prompted samsung to delay shipments of the phone. then the company issued a recall in september for 2.5 million devices. before sending out replacement phones that same month. but now there are several reports of the replacement phones catching fire as well. perhaps the most serious incident happened last week when a southwest airlines flight had to be evacuated because of a smoking galaxy note 7

stocks sailing higher on columbus day. the dow, nasdaq, and s&p 500 all finishing up led by a rally in oil prices and oil stocks. it's lights out for trump, taj mahal and atlantic city. after 26 years in operation, the iconic casino hotel which is not owned by donald trump anymore is shutting its doors for good on monday. facebook is giving us the business, the social media giant for companies called workplace. the site allows employees to chat with their colleagues and give users access to live video and translating languages. that's business. i'm charles payne. beautiful start to the day tomorrow. we'll be a little bit chilly as we get going but all in all lots of sunshine out there. tonight temperatures continuing

getting into the low 70s in fact. about 71 degrees at 6:00. in the later morning hours, we are going to warm up a little bit. 75 degrees the expected temperature as we get into the 8:00-hour, plenty of sunshine, nice and warm, and then by the afternoon, a look at those temperatures around the valley. for the most part, 90s, we'll be looking at mid-90s in places like goodyear, ahwatukee, and maricopa, but then some places a little cooler than that. cave creek come in closer to 90 degrees, wickenburg only in the upper 80s. great day tomorrow, great tuesday, and we'll continue with a very pleasant weather pattern for the next several days. coming up next, it is talkback time and we are talking about swearing in the workplace and who's guilty of it. >> i'm not saying anything. plus an ingenious social media campaign that aims to draw awareness at a common problem
