we begin with a fox 10 we begin with a fox 10 news alert. two teenagers taken to the hospital after being shot near a gas station. these are live pictures from the scene. 75th avenue and deer valley road. the shooting happening in a wash next to a police believe this happened during an exchange of goods. >> we are told a 15-year-old and 18-year-old were wounded in the shooting. they were taken to the hospital. they have nonlife-threatening injuries. police say two other teens are in custody and they are continuing to investigate what happened out there. turning to another top story. a valley woman is arrested on terrorism charges and the f.b.i. and the arizona attorney general are involved in this case.

to a terror plot in which he planned to blow up a mesa m.v.d. office. >> kristy siefkin is live with details on this. >> reporter: michelle baskin is the name of the woman arrested and she is asleep in jail on the charge of conspiracy to commit terrorism. she is not police arrested mere in the valley connected to terrorism acts. this is a picture. f.b.i. agents arresting her earlier today and the f.b.i. worked with the arizona attorney general also office to serve two search warrants, both for conspiracy to commit terrorism. one was served in chandler and the other in florence.

locally owned bakery between warner and elliot. it is unclear in florence where the second warrant was issued. her arrest comes on the heels of another terrorism arrest. 18-year-old mahin khan was arrested and he pled several terror-related charges and weapons charges, one of the charges is the same that michelle bastian of. she is still waiting to see a judge and it is unclear if whether or not her arrest is, in fact, connected to the two search warrants issued earlier today. reporting live in downtown phoenix, i'm kristy siefkin, fox 10 news.

officer-involved shooting that happened earlier this week. a 25-year-old man in full body armor was threatening to kill another man with a gun. when officers got there, the suspect took off and he tried to hide from them. police hid behind a police car and pointed the gun at the officers two different times. he was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. none of the officers were hurt. a man and woman are recovering at a hospital after their plane crashes at deer valley airport. they were headed to california when the plane crashed into a structure near 43rd avenue and pinnacle peak road. someone called 911 and stayed there with the victims until police got there. >> a lot of people pulling up now. before, it was just us. now i see a lot of people coming from the neighborhoods. >> when you see the damage from the airplane, the speed, the

poll says that is not the case because it was conducted before that news came out. a new poll with sherpa public affairs shows paul penzone taking a 10 point lead over sheriff sheriff joe arpaio. he did the case himself and funded it. >> i knew there was discussion among the chattering class that arpaio was having trouble but i was surprise which this indicated his losing. >> reporter: 348 maricopa county voters were asked who they would choose. some of the results were surprising like arpaio losing among independents. >> i think his base, which has been an older base that 50-65 crowd really is departing from him. the reason for that is i don't know.

with that red meat, law and order kind of attitude, men are leaving him, too. >> reporter: many believe these numbers are a direct result rom tuesday's news that arpaio will face criminal contempt charges but they say it is impossible because the poll was conducted through the 5th. >> they ?ar election. can he make up space, certainly. can mr. penzone lose support, certainly. if it keeps going the way it is going right now, we're going to have a new sheriff in maricopa county. >> reporter: arpaio's camp releasing a statement saying "we always expected this race to be close. we think voters will see the

of justice as corruption, a tactic to impact the election." people were polled on the presidential race in this particular poll as well as the local senate race. reporting live, danielle miller, fox 10 news. >> early voting for the november election getting under way. about 2.3 million early ballots were mailed out but if you're an early ballot, y in person. we stopped by the gilbert polling location where we had 70 voters cast their ballots. >> i just wanted to vote and have it done and it's good. i had to decide that i was voting for a platform on some of the things, especially a major one and not worry about the people and vote for the platform that will take care of the needs of the country the most.

race and the sheriff maricopa' race, voters will decide on the senate race. first responders were called to a home last night near watson and yuma. there is no pool in the backyard so it is not clear where the 1-year-old boy drowned. police are investigating. as north carolina struggles with the aftermath of matthew, yes, this storm is gone and out to sea but the problems persist, as you can see here. officials warn at least one river is expected to crest this weekend at double the flood stage. the governor says storm-related deaths stand at 20 across the state and they are calling for a full scale evacuation from the threatened areas. hard to remember dust storms

this year, especially on i-10 where we saw a number of crashes because of the dangerous conditions. adot is rolling out futuristic technology to help drivers out. it is called dust protection and warning system. sensors are going to be placed along the road to set off an alert. engineers are starting to test the design work this month. >> we are looking at several different kinds o including the sensors used in the middle east to find the right equipment for us that will pick up the presence of dust particles in the air and wind in the air and let us know about the possibility of a dust storm. >> a great idea. that system will be installed next summer between mile post

big news for the arizona cardinals, 11 days after carson palmer suffered a concussion against the rams, palmer has been cleared to play. >> he is going to be on the field for the upcoming football game against the new york jets. jude lacava is here with getting a player back on the field when you're talk about concussions. >> reporter: the question of just how thorough the nfl protocol has been out sometime. i talked to players who say the cognitive, memorization test is not as extensive as it should be but others just want to get back on the field. it is interesting to be inquisitive here. there are biomarker blood tests coming that will have a better read on if the player is ready for contact.

got to tell you this is the best time of year. temperatures looking pretty good during the day. we're above where we should be but we're getting into the beautiful days and the nice, cool nights and the mornings are fantastic. we're at 84. we have clear skies out there. mild, light winds, 3 miles an a perfect night out there. you can't feel the air it feels so good. 92 is where we were today. a couple degrees above normal but we know it could be worse. 103 was the record set back in 1950. we were just a smidge above where we should be. morning low would be 66. it is a little bit of a chill in the air in the mornings, not enough to put your heater on in

it quickly warms up. we do have a couple of systems we're keeping an eye on but they are not going to make their way into arizona. if you're traveling as we head toward the weekend, around the region, we might run into trouble spots. pretty big rain showers associated with this storm in moving into the coastal areas of oregon, washington, northern california. as we take a closer look, you see some of that rain starting to make its way on the coast and some of the rather rapidly as well. you probably noticed today, it started out beautiful and we saw a thick layer of clouds moving in and it cleared out. you can see how the clouds are moving out. most of them have moved out of the state. we are left with clear skies. it is a good star-gazing night. if you are some where with low light pollution you will be able

heads towards the mississippi river valley. that one is capable of producing strong storms and we're keeping an eye on that system in the northwest. for the most part, it is a quiet night across the country. other than this storm, a category four hurricane. we just got done with the last one. this is a biggie. it is taking aim for bermuda and as we get back here and take a look at it, it has winds of 130 miles an hour. it is, basically, heading north, northeast and that is bermuda. it is expected to track over bermuda and head out into the northern atlantic. bermuda is very much unlike haiti. it is better built. buildings are stronger there so we don't expect as much destruction as we saw in haiti but nonetheless, this is a

developing tonight. are trying to track down the man in this sketch. they believe he sexually assaulted a teenage girl in a park in the west valley. this happened near 107th avenue and indian school road. nicole garcia has the details. reporter: the victim is just 17 years old. she helped police come up with a sketch of the attacker and she remembered a unique detail about him, he has a star tattoo on his

the suspect came up behind her and hit her on the back of the head and forced her to the ground. he sexually assaulted her. she was able to fight him off and run off. he is an hispanic man 20's to late 30's with a star on his right forearm. he was seen wearing a yellow bandanna on his head. people say they will be keeping their eyes predator. anyone with information is asked to call silent witness. we have an update on a gory story. the human remains found last month belonged to the same victim, 45-year-old jason collins. a severed arm at a scrap yard and a week later, more human

investigators are trying to determine how the man died. a big meth bust at our southern border. a tucson woman was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle 16 pounds of meth. a drug-sniffing dog found the meth underneath the center console of the nissan sedan. the drugs are worth $50,000. following concerns about some people in prescott about group homes for recovering addicts in their neighborhood. the city law to regulate some of those homes. there are quite a few of them there, a house manager must always with at the home and awake at all times. it also set standards for training, criminal background. existing new homes must apply for licenses and currently, there are 100 sober living homes

what a debacle. this was a huge mess on the i-10 this morning. the eastbound lanes and the deck park tunnel closed down emergency repairs after a truck hauling a tall trailer went through the tunnel and damaged a dozen lights in there. that had a ripple effect. it shut down the traffic, huge backup and it stretched on for miles. a lot of people stuck in the traffic. eastbound lanes were closed all the way to i-17. so drivers had to use i-17 south to detour around the closure and reconnect with i-10 at the
