73rd avenue and indian school road in maryville. >> he shot on the floor. he just shot him. >> did this happen in front of the house? >> yes. >> 24 hours earlier on the opposite side of the valley, another shooting unfolded in it was the night of march 17th, st. patrick's day. the victim, was shot in the stomach and leg by someone in a passing car. the 9-1-1 call was made by a relative who was not at the shooting scene. >> they shot my cousin. >> is he breathing? >> mom, is he breathing? >> i don't know. they just said that they shot him. >> are you there? >> i'm not. i'm on my way right now. >> now in both of those cases the 16-year-old and the 21-year-old were wounded but they did not die.

seconds later he came back in and forced forced the cashier ie office. he then stole several items including cigarettes before finally taking off. new on fox tonight, phoenix police looking for men who preyed on an older couple. they posed as tree trimmers and forced their way into the couple's home. that these two men were definitely trying to take advantage of this older couple. both of them were disabled. the husband was outside with his walker and they said they wanted to take care of this tree. he refused their help and said it didn't need to be trimmed. but they made their way through this fence anyway towards his wife. >> they're scumbags and i need to get rid of them.

these two men caught on surveillance video. she says they're the reason why her 88-year-old husband is all bandaged up. >> i had a doctor's appointment. >> reporter: richard was outside with his walker and they said we needed to trim the trees because of power lines. >> i said no. >> reporter: the video shows them snooping all around and knocked on the door. >> they wanted to buy stuff. he s boat for you. >> reporter: that's when she knew something wasn't right. >> something isn't right here. they're not coming any further in my house. >> 10-year-old grandson smelled something wrong and called 9-1-1 himself. that's also when the men tried to run away, but not before shoving richard into a trailer. linda and richard aren't sure exactly these men wanted but they do think they saw them as

get parole for 35 years. it was back in august of 2015 that he performed sex acts on the girl and took explicit video of her. that girl's mother found the video on his cell phone. the i-40 shut down this morning because of a crash. a controlled burn decreased visibility. it may have been a factor in this three-vehicle killed one person. dps was forced to shut down part of the road for that investigation, but the road is back open tonight. chelsea clinton makes a stop in arizona. the get out the vote rally was held at azu student union where they were eager to hear about clinton's debt free college plan. >> hundreds of people showing up

chelsea clinton speak. cheers erupted immediately. the casually-dressed clinton went on the stage and immediately started talking about education. talking about her college compact that would allow students to walk away from schools debt free. clinton opened the floor to questions pretty early on addressing a variety of medical conditions, the importance of automatic voter registration, investing money in title i schools and also making pre-k education universal for all students. all of this said, she of course took the opportunity to speak about donald trump and she said that she's pretty confident that when he says let's make america great again who he is really referring is to wealthy, straight, white men, which

of the population. all of it, though, she really stressed the fact that her mom has experience to take on this office and unlike the other candidate that she has a plan in place that she can share can constituents. take a listen. >> i think we have to route the election kind of in the issues that people care about and out of the rhetoric. so if people care about having a functioning government and having someone who really understands what a president can and can't do and has a record done, whether we're talking about back when my mom was the first lady of arkansas and the earlier gentleman's comments or when she was a senator or secretary of state. i home that it would matter that she relentlessly found common ground when possible when whether to support our veterans or foster care youth or our youngest americans with doubling funding for early head start programs across the country.

today was very peaceful. we didn't see any protesters here at asu. but obviously it wasn't much of a surprise that the trump campaign sent out a response to the rally today. they essentially said that chelsea is having to defend her mom in light of recent allegations that he has degraded the very students that she is trying to get on board with their campaign. she said things like they live in their parents' basement and take jobs for ver l many students attending the event headed out to watch parties. they're going to be looking at the republican response in addition to all of the topics that chelsea discussed during her speech. >> christie, thank you and arizona has 11 electoral votes up for grabs. the latest poll shows hillary clinton is up 5 points over donald trump.

you? >> i thought his candor was refreshing. but at some point you have to invest the time to learn about the issues and understand what's behind the policies that you're proposing. and that's exactly what i told him. the only certainty about the job of president is the uncertainty that comes day-to-day. >> reporter: so mark cuban concerned that donald trump's view is not intellectual curious enough to be president. hundreds of media as they will take in this. and people from all over the world now, journalist who is fascinated and intrigued by how this campaign has descended into the gutter. a lot of them telling me that they are just stunned by what's happened to american politics, watching this thing descend. a lot of how people view what is happened here will be crafted in the spin room.
