she's the one wearing a wet suit, and we'll explain what's behind this. plus, a gusher out on some valley streets. how water ended up shooting on to the road, tying up traffic for hours today, creating a huge mess, and a car full of teenage girls runs out of gas. two girls get out to push the car, and they end up getting hit by an oncoming car. we'll tell you how they are doing tonight on fox 10 news at 10:00. and police drunk driver behind the wheel, and those two girls are in the hospital tonight. stefania okolie talked to one of the girl's boyfriends. she joins us live from the hospital with the latest. >> reporter: yeah, and unfortunately the victim in this crash, marc, a 16-year-old young girl, her physical health is very uncertain right now. she is still in the hospital here this evening. her boyfriend tells us that the doctors are not sure whether or

it's a much different mindy than her loved ones are used to seeing. >> it's really bad. it's just i don't know it's so hard to see her like that. very energetic, just a very easy going person. >> they were on interstate 17 and ran out of gas. mindy and another friend got out to push the car but didn't make it far, a driver trapping them between two cars. her boyfried says doctors are trying to save her legs. >> she'll have to have up to five more surgeries, at least >> oh, wow. >> yeah, and they don't know if she is going to be able keep her right leg. >> this unfortunate incident a reminder to drivers everywhere. >> the safest place if you're broke down on the side of the highway is in your car.

of seconds, your life can change forever. >> it's just really hard. we are trying to look for the best, you know, and hope for the best. >> reporter: right now phoenix police have not released many additional details about the suspected drunk driver. we are working to learn what charges he or she may be facing. we want to also mention that the family set up a gofundme page to help pay for the medical bills. hit these two young girls did not have any insurance. >> i also understand there was a dog in the car that ran away. have they found the dog yet? >> they have not been able to find that dog. i can tell you, however, though, it is a small black chihuahua. her girlfriend tells me that the chihuahua's name is sashi. if anyone happens to see it, please call phoenix police

that truck smashes into a semi in flagstaff. police tell us that truck was being loaded when it was stolen from the lot. the truck then sideswiped another car that was stopped at a red light before it smashed into the big rig. the road was closed down for about eight hours but it is back open tonight. and according to its website, improving a hazardous stre city to sunset point is too costly. when serious accidents occur on this stretch of highway, it usually blocks traffic for hours. in fact, we saw traffic blocked for nine hours over the weekend because of a crash, because there's no other way to get off the highway. the obvious solution is to add lanes to the highway, but it would cost $125 million, and

not feasible so there will be no cure in store for that for the time being. a semi-truck slammed into a fire hydrant today. thousands of gallons poured out for nearly five hours. crews had to dig underground and try to reach the shutoff valve as traffic slowed on mcdowell road. the incidents they say are not uncommon in phoenix, but this was an unusual situation. >> typically, a fire breakaway bolts, so as a car hits it, the fire hydrant breaks off cleanly. in this case, the semi-truck kind of nudged it, knocked it over, so as they did that, they broke some of the valves. >> and the city's water service department says it will file claim against that truck driver to cover costs of the repairs there. maricopa county sheriff joe arpaio's lawyers are calling foul. they want the judge in arpaio's

himself. arpaio's team says the judge engaged in improper private and off-the-record discussions with the sheriff in that case. the sheriff's court trial is set to begin november 6th. two men and a woman were caught on surveillance video stealing ten-week old cattle dog mixes. police are searching for the thieves, but they really want pthe dogs back because they are sick and need to get well again. in return, the league says they will not press any charges if they are returned. investigators are looking into why a wing under construction at banner casa grande medical center caught fire. crews quickly put that fire out. flames kept it's hard to believe i'm

ready for more heat? it's on the way. october almost over and we are still experiencing triple digit weather, hard to believe. dave munsey is tracking somewhat unusual stretch of weather for this time of year. >> it would certainly be unusual to get a 100-degree reading at this time of year. things are a little bit iffy on that. however, let's take a look at it, shall we? the third warmest in october, a question mark there, because october is not over yet. in 2001, 83.7 the average, number two, the second warmest october, 1988, 82.4 degrees, and then number three, 2016, 80.9. we are forecasting more. in fact we have had 90-degree

polls. the associated press has hillary clinton with a 14-point lead. u.s.a. today has her beating trump by nine points, and fox news narrows the gap, we are kind of all over the place with this, aren't we, they narrow the gap with donald trump in a statistical tie. so with the flood of all of these polls coming out almost every single day during the presidential election, a lot of people are wondering how you can decide which one is right, which polls you should ignore, which ones you should to. it's enough to make anyone's head spin, so we are trying to make sense of it all, so we sent danielle miller out to sort it all out. >> reporter: yeah, now, marc, there is a lot of confusion with these polls to say the least. tonight we spoke with a political consultant who says these polls sometimes are

in this election that it almost doesn't matter what happened yesterday. the disproportionate change between all of these polls is another evidence that the polling cannot be relied on. >> reporter: political consultant stan barns says in most cases trump underpolls, giving an inaccurate read of the support for him. >> that means that public that is responding to polls is not telling the truth. they either say they even say they are voting for hillary. >> barn says because of this very fluid election, people shouldn't decide whether they are going to vote or even who they are going to vote for based on the polls. even if your candidate of choice isn't in the lead in the polls, we won't know who is the

man dressed as a city construction worker using a hammer and a pick axe to demolish donald trump's star. that man reportedly wanted to remove the star and sell it. it is the second time now it's been vandalized during the election season. an honorary street sign for trump in chicago is a step closer to being removed. they approved outside of the trump tower after comments were made about the windy city during the first presidential debate. removal of the sign still needs approval by the full city cuncil. there's a new app that will let you know where your luggage is at all times.

garden, your wait is about to get shorter. that's because olive garden is now allowing customers to check in online, and you can visit their website or app and put your name on the waiting list. olive garden says all of its 843 restaurants in the u.s. will have that system by the end of the week. delta is also introducing a new app. passengers can now track their checked bags. luggage will now get a radio frequency identification tag and track the bags location along the way, like a tracking package with amazon. at&t is looking to give traditional cable providers a run for their money. the company says it will launch an online streaming tv service next month at the end of

flagstaff, and 79 degrees in prescott. some nice looking 90-degree temperatures are going to be warming up a little bit over the next couple of days down on the desert floor. 96 for our high today, 69 for the low, 85 and 61 would be the normal high and low. there's a 98 for you. it's the record today. we had 42 for the record low. here's what we are forecasting, 98 degrees, and you can see those surrounding temperatures, they all are pretty much up there as mixing in with it, 76 forecast at the grand canyon, 80 at prescott, 79 at payson and 99 in casa grande. this is what it looks like across the country. we are looking at some of moisture in the northwest. that front that we showed you moving in, very windy conditions in some areas. we are also seeing some high elevation snow as we are with this system. a little bit of snow as you get into upstate new york, but it's mostly rain from chicago to
