out the door... and fox 10 news at 9:00 starts now. >> out the door and around the corner, this was the scene at polling places across maricopa county. a last minute rush on the final day of early voting. >> the lines were very long everywhere you look, some people waiting two, three, even four hours to vote early. >> good evening, everybody. thanks for joining us. early voting in arizona has been going on since mid october but the line lines at early places, they didn't materialize until this week. >> for the third day in a row, people were waiting in very long lines but today may have been the worst of the long lines. in fact, people are still waiting in line tonight at a polling place in tempe, where we find stefania okolie with the latest. >> reporter: these people lucked out. they did get to start their friday night. if we zoom in upstairs, we see that some of the poll workers are just now wrapping up,
9:01 pm
here. the last voter just got out of here before 8:45. the polls closed at 5:00 p.m., so those folks were in line for at least an hour and 45 minutes. and we want to show you some video we had from earlier today. you can see skyfox over the scene as the line here at the tempe public library was coming out of the door. now, this is what we witnessed at several polling locations across the valley today. as we got into the evening, we got here probably, say, about 6:30 p.m. inside because again the polls did close at 5:00 p.m. but you can see that the -- now, people who were voting at this location told me that they had about 15 booths, so they don't think that the booths were the issue that was necessarily holding the line but more so the process of printing out the ballots. >> what do you think was slowing it down? >> i don't think there were enough people processing people that were ready to vote. they only had about i think four
9:02 pm
getting you your ballot. i think they could have had a few more. >> i also feel like a lot of the people that were working and were taking in the information weren't super computer savvy. >> the booths weren't the problem. it was the people processing and printing out the ballots. there was probably only two people doing that. >> it was a little daunting at first, but definitely it was worth it. it was worth every minute. >> yeah, i guess the greatest thing coming out of tonight is that they got their of course they got their i voted sticker as well. of course today was the last day to get that vote in. now, we reached out to the county clerk who did not get back to us, but they did mention something along the lines of if people were waiting until closer to 5:00 today to vote, they were going to be waiting this line a long time. but again, people were here as early as 3:00 and didn't really leave until 7:30, 8:00.
9:03 pm
than a million early ballots have been collected so far in the county and that doesn't include the ballots cast today. there were roughly 2.1 million registered voters in maricopa county, so right now more than half of the registered voters in the county have voted early. that is considered a great turnout for early voting. and maybe that means the lines will not be very long on election day. we'll have to see. an election alert, a federal appeals court blocks an arizona law making it a them en masse. just days before election day, that is a big win for the democratic get out the vote effort. this means that this with won't be a crime now for groups to go door to door to collect early ballots that have never been turned and were just sitting on someone's counter and deliver them to the polls for that voter. some republicans have raised concerns about this practice potentially leading to voter fraud. we are just four days away
