the event is open to the public. candidate ted cruz plans to hit the road in iowa starting on monday. he's holding a bus tour of 36 counties in six days. on tuesday, january 5th he's making stops in cherokee and sioux. the next day he'll be in lyon, osceola, dickinson, emmet, palo alto and clay. and, on thursday, january 7th he'll be in buena vista, pocahontas, humboldt and kossuth counties. democratic presidential candidate hillary clinton also plans to stump for support in siouxland next week. today, she was back on the campaign trail for the first time since taking a break over christmas. she held two town hall meetings in new hampshire. on monday, she'll be in iowa. next, tuesday she will be in sioux city for an event at 2:15 p.m. the location hasn't been announced yet. thousands showed up for a rally for donald t tmp tonight in coununl bluffs, iowa. trump says he will start spending money on campaign advertising. the republican says he doesn't want to take any chances even though polls show him on top.

record flooding in missouri has claimed the lives of 13 people. governor jay nixon says 12 of those killed were swept away by flood water while their vehicles. he also added that the flooding is expected to surpass missouri's great flood of 19-93 which caused major devastation. the flooding is so bad that people have resorted to

"catastrophic and historic' are how officials described flooding along the illinois river in tahlequah, oklahoma. residents along the river say they've never seen flooding like this before. homes and vehicles are underwater. at least 15 people left homeless tonight after a fire in sloan, iowa. smoke filled the air at the prairie apartments this morning. two women were forced to jump from a second-story window to escape. both were transported to mercy medical center with non-life threatening injuries. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. the food bank of siouxland got a late christmas gift today. union pacific made a $10,000 donation. the food bank's executive director say the donation will go a long way to help the food bank reach its goal. this year, the food bank distributed nearly 2- million pounds of food. students from two siouxland schools played during a bowl game t tay. marching band members from gehlen catholic and yankton, south dakota's high

a northwest iowa woman faces several charges afafr police say she crashed into another vehicle on purpose. melissa ebert from cherokee was charged with attempted murder for a head-on collision in le mars, iowa in september. three people ended up with serious injuries. she also faces her second owi offense and a charge of serious injury by motor vehicle. december is national drunk and drugged driving awareness month. it's the time of year when many people celebrate the holidays together. but, that means more people behind the wheel impaired. one group is cracking down to prevent deadly situations. ktiv's tiffany lane went along for a ride.

that specializes in recognizing drunk and drugged driving. the alcohol safety action program, also known as the asap unit, is made up of a supervisor and three officers. "the benefits of having the asap unit is that anytime an officer on patrol stops a driver they think might be impaired, rather than tie that officer up for three officers to process that drunk driver, the members of my unit will take over that case and go through the drunk driving process and we're able to put that patrol officer back on general patrol." asap supervisor sergeant steve ten napel says members of the unit also become good witnesses and experts in drunk driving prosecution. su "since 2014, there have been 10 traffic fatalities in sioux city. a third of those were caused by impaired drivers." mercy medical center's reality education

coach, kirk ferentz does a good job of making sure his players stay away from controversial statements. the hawkeyes were challenged with one last visit with hundreds of press people -- at the rose bowl media day. mark woodley has more from california. up the escalator and in to the gauntlet for an hour on tuesday morning, the hawkeyes went through media day at the rose bowl. the level of attention amounted to something never seen before by anyone on this squad. "this is unreal. i've never seen anything like it," said wide receiver matt vandeberg. "but it's exciting." "we've never seen this much media in our lives," said offensive lineman ike boettger.
