in quite a few spots across siouxland and will continue to fall throughout the day. plan on it taking longer to get to your destinations this morning with the snow/slush vered roads, as we face snow totals in the 2-4 inchchrange by the time it exits later this evening. winds will also pick up from the north and northwest today/tonight which will create very cold conditions with wind chills beginning to approach zero. much of the same will be in place on saturday as temperatures drop during the day into the lower teens and single digits with sub-zero wind chills. it'll be our temperatures that drop b bow zero (wiwichills: -20s) saturday night/sunday morning and fall shy of 10 degrees above zero sunday afternoon. we'll get some limited relief early next week as temperatures return to the teens and gradually make it back into the 20s by the middle of it with some halfway decent sunshine. see graphics. >> joining us in studio now i i

as a terror suspect. a terror suspect in new york made a court appearance this morning. the fbi says 25-year old emanuel lutch-man was plotting a terror attack at a rochester restaurant on n n year's eve. people who know lutch- man say he's a panhandler with mental problems. federal prosecutors describe him as a would-be terrorist who wanted to prove he was worthy of joining the islamic state militants. the mother of a fugitive teen who used an "affluenza" defense after killing four people in a drunken- driving wreck made her initial court appearance this morning. bond was set at $1 million for tonya couch this morning in fort worth. authorities believe couch and her 18-year-old son, ethan couch, fled texas in november as prosecutors investigated whether the teenager had violated his probation. a video surfaced that appeared to show him at a party where people were drinking. the mother and son were arrested in mexico late last month. he is still being held there. some colleges across the country

their hoverboards at home. at least 20 universities have banned or restricted the popular motorized scooters. federal authorities say hoverboards are unsafe and can cause serious injury. plus, they tend to, on occasasn, burst into flames! airlines have been them and the university of iowa is now among the schools banning hoverboards from dorm rooms and other campus buildings. von stange/university of iowa housing director "if a fire breaks out, that's our main concern. if a fire breaks out, i mean it could damage the room, joining rooms, and things like that. fires burn hot, and it can damage a lot of property." other schools that have banned hoverboards include george mason university, george washington university and american university. after a very rough start to the new year, u.s. stocks have been inching upward today, as investors find encourageme nt in the latest job numbers. analysts had expected an increase of 200-thousand jobs last month, but the actual number was close to 300-thousand. stocks aren't making large gains, but the buying is widespread.

also scheduled for release next december: the "star wars" spinoff "rogue one." helping to bring "bright futures" to local students. still ahead, on around siouxland. in the middle of a time when senior poverty is increasing. republicans and some democrats came up with a brilliant idea for cutting cost-of-living adjustments for social security. we said, "it will be over our dead bodies if you cut social security." as president, i will do everything i can to extend the solvency of social security and expand benefits for people who desperately need them.

and it was put in place to address low graduation rate actually. once the program started they realized that their community had a lot of needs. students maybe not having meals or not having coats, that type of thing. it was a way to organize community efforts, collaboration amongst different community agencies as well as the school in that system. then the joplin tornadoes hit and that structure was in place so that community was able to respond quickly to the needs of their community members. so the sioux city chamber actually brought this to dr. gausman and the sioux city community schools and asked us if we would lead the program. so we took it up. this has been about a year ago. so we had our big kick off, bright futures breakfast event,
