jury selection starts today in the trial of a baltimore police officer charged with second- degree murder in the death of a man injured in custody. caesar goodson faces the most serious charges in the death of freddie gray. gray died in april, a week after sustaining grave injuries while in the back of a baltimore p pice van. goodson is the second of six officers to go to trial in connection with gray's death- which sparked riots in the city. a judge has compelled another officer to testify against him. the suspect who investigators say shot a philadelphia police officer "in the name of islam" is charged with attempted murder. edward archer was arraigned saturday on eighghcharges - including four felonies. the charges range from attempted murder to aggravated assault. investigators say archer fired at officer jesse hartnett about a dozen times

his marked police car. archer pledged his allegiance to isis during his arrest. police say officer hartnett suffered non-life threatening injuries. archer was denied bail and will next appear in court on january 25th. an illinois s n missing for five days was found dead in thurston county, nebraska. thurston county sheriff shelly perez says 82-year-old marvin davis was found in a rural area of the county. authorities used cell phone records to track davis....noting he was found with his vehicle. his death is under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious. the destruction of a historical building in omaha's old market became a spectacle of fire and ice. emergency crews werealled to the scene saturday night when an explosion engulfed a pub's century-old building in flames. firefighters battled the flames until morning in below-freezing temperatures... hosing down the burning brick structure. in the frigid winter cold... the water transformed the smoldering

like an ice castle. the pub owner says three people were treated for injuries. officials are investigating the cause of the blast. fire crews in whiting, iowa spent part of the afternoon yesterday battling a house fire. authorities say the incident happened shortly after 1:30 in the afternoon in the 600 block of stroud avenue. this home in monona county was fully engulfed in flames. at this time authorities are not releasing any more information. two men were killed and more than 140 buildings destroyed by a wildfire that burned out of control in western australia. authorities said they found the remains of two elderly men while searching burned-out buildings in the historic timber milling town of yarloop. a state of emergency has been declared and residents evacuated from five nearby towns. the united states deployed a b-52 bomber on a low-level flight over its ally south korea yesterday in a show of force following north korea's nuclear test last week. the b-52 was joined by two

richard merrigan remembers how hard it was looking for jobs after serving in the united states air force for 6 years. (sot: richard merrigan, holt amereran legion commander) "i didn't have a suit and a matter of fact i had very few civilian clothes. so it was kind of a handicap when we first went out for interviews." he had to borrow a suit... shirt and tie from a friend... but it still took took him six months to finally get the job. (sot: richard merrigan, holt american legion cocoander) "there no one to tell you what to do so you got to do it all on your own." that's why he's working with local groups and businesses to make sure veterans in the area don't have to do it alone. (sot: richard merrigan, holt american legion commander) "this will give them something they can be proud to wear." they've collected more than 50 suits in two weeks. (sot: john hayhoe, holt kiwanis) "donated from citizens in the community. and we're getting together. we have a tailor lined up who will adjust the suits for free for the veterans." freddie gray. gray died in april, a week after sustaining grave injuries while in the back of a baltimore police van. goodson is the second of six officers to go to trial in connection with gray's death- which sparked riots in the city. a judge has compelled another officer to testify against him. the suspect who investigators say shot a philadelphia police officer "in the name of islam" is charged with attempted murder. edward archer was arraigned saturday on eight charges - including four felonies. the charges range from attempted murder to aggravated assault. investigators say archer fired at officer jesse hartnett about a dozen times through the window of his marked police car. archer pledged his allegiance to isis during his arrest. police say officer hartnett suffered non-life threatening injuries. archer was denied bail and will next appear in court on january 25th. the texas mother accused of helping her son flee to mexico will ask a judge to reduce her bond. attorneys for tonya couch say

a fort worth judge set the bail last week- after couch returned to texas. investigators say couch helped her son ethan flee to mexico as prosecutors investigated whether he had violated his probation in a drunken driving case. ethan couch killed four people while driving drunk in 2013- his attorneys argued his privileged lifestyle prevented him from knowing right from wrong. an illinois man missing for five days was found dead in thurston county, nebraska. thurston county sheriff shelly perez says 82-year-old marvin davis was found in a rural area of the county. authorities used cell phone records to track davis....noting he was found with his vehicle. his death is under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious. investigators are working to determine what caused an explosion and fire that caused extensive damage to a historic downtown omaha building that housed a restaurant and apartments. several witnesses say they smelled natural gas

explosion and subsequent fire that started saturday afternoon in the old market. one man was seriously injured, but no one was killed in the fire. omaha's fire chief says investigators haven't determined the cause of the fire or whether the structure is salvageable. fire crews in whiting, iowa spent part of the afternoon yesterday battling a house fire. authorities say the incident happened shortly after 1:30 in the afternoon in the 600 block of stroud avenue. this home in monona county was fully engulfed in flames. at this time authorities are not releasing any more information. two men were killed and more than 140 buildings destroyed by a wildfire that burned out of control in western australia. authorities said they found the remains of two elderly men while searching burned-out buildings in the historic timber milling town of yarloop. a state of emergency has been declared and residents evacuated from five nearby towns. the united states deployed a b-52 bomber on a low-level flight over

"a lot can happen and the reason a lot can is becuase iowans don't pay attention to the national polls, they don't pay attention to what the experts say are best for them. they go out and do what these 75-80 people are doing here tonight; which is come out, meet the candidates, and kick the tires," said rick santorum, gop candidate. santorum will be in orange city this morning for a town hall at the pizza ranch. it starts at 10 o'clock.

i can't believe it's butter! dozens gathered to witness the unveiling of the carefully crafted butter sculpture to open the 100th pennsylvania farm show last week. the sculpture features a dairy cow, farm family, baby chicks, and apple pies. organizers say about one-thousand pounds of butter was used and it took the sculptor a record-setting 14 days to make. they say the butter is not edible and will be recycled to help power a nearby farm. officials expect more than 500-thousand people to attend the farm festivities, which started saturday and will run through

singer david bowie has died following a battle with cancer. the news was posted on his official web site and social media pages. according to a short statement by his agent, bowie "died peacefully" sunday "surrounded by his family and friends" after an 18-month battle.
