one organization in michigan is helping to dress veterans well in hopes of landing them jobs after their service to the country. we'll check out their new threads a little later. but first, here's ben.

the saga of the mexican drug lord recaptured on friday took a new turn yesterday. rolling stone published an interview "el chapo" guzman reportedly did with sean penn, who said the two met secretly last year. nbc's gabe gutierrez reports from mexico, where the world's most notorious drug criminal is back behind bars.

said guzman's desire to make a movie about himselfand his interaction with producers and actorseventually led to his arrest. (sot: clint van zandt/ nbc news crime analyst) "i think the mexican authorities want to identify as many people closely associated with el chapo as they can." a trusted source tells nbc news that authorities were aware that penn and del castillo were in mexxo to meet wwh guzman in octoberas law enforcement was closing inn a pllned arrest sweep was delayed to assure the two would not be harmed. when the raid eventually took place, el chapo and his security team escaped. we reached out to both penn and del castillo. neither has commented. jury selection starts today in the trial of a baltimore police officer charged with second- degree murder in the death of a man injured in custody. caesar goodson faces the most serious charges in the death of freddie gray. gray died in april, a week after sustaining grave injuries while in the back of a baltimore p pice van. goodson is the second of six officers to go to trial in connection with gray's death- which sparked riots in the city. a judge has compelled another officer to testify against him. the suspect who investigators say shot a philadelphia police officer "in the name of islam" is charged with attempted murder. edward archer was arraigned saturday on eighghcharges - including four felonies. the charges range from attempted murder to aggravated assault. investigators say archer fired at officer jesse hartnett about a dozen times

his marked police car. archer pledged his allegiance to isis during his arrest. police say officer hartnett suffered non-life threatening injuries. archer was denied bail and will next appear in court on january 25th. an illinois s n missing for five days was found dead in thurston county, nebraska. thurston county sheriff shelly perez says 82-year-old marvin davis was found in a rural area of the county. authorities used cell phone records to track davis....noting he was found with his vehicle. his death is under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious. the destruction of a historical building in omaha's old market became a spectacle of fire and ice. emergency crews werealled to the scene saturday night when an explosion engulfed a pub's century-old building in flames. firefighters battled the flames until morning in below-freezing temperatures... hosing down the burning brick structure. in the frigid winter cold... the water transformed the smoldering

like an ice castle. the pub owner says three people were treated for injuries. officials are investigating the cause of the blast. fire crews in whiting, iowa spent part of the afternoon yesterday battling a house fire. authorities say the incident happened shortly after 1:30 in the afternoon in the 600 block of stroud avenue. this home in monona county was fully engulfed in flames. at this time authorities are not releasing any more information. two men were killed and more than 140 buildings destroyed by a wildfire that burned out of control in western australia. authorities said they found the remains of two elderly men while searching burned-out buildings in the historic timber milling town of yarloop. a state of emergency has been declared and residents evacuated from five nearby towns. the united states deployed a b-52 bomber on a low-level flight over its ally south korea yesterday in a show of force following north korea's nuclear test last week. the b-52 was joined by two

over an air base near seoul. the u-s military said the flight was "in response to recent provocative action by north korea." governor rick scott toured areas of southwest florida that were damaged when a tornado touched down this weekend. the national weather service confirmed the e-f two tornado rolled through cape coral on saturday night. winds reached up to 135 miles-per-hour and scattered debris about 12 square miles. officials say several homes were damaged and about 10- thousand people were left without power. no deaths or serious injuries were reported and officials say power has since been restored. if you haven't checked your powerball lottery tickets yet - don't get your hopes up. for the 19-th time nobody won. the new jackpot is more than a billion dollars and who knows how high it'll be by wednesday night. nbc's kerry sanders is in florida with more on the historic jackpot.

> walk into a job interview in probably going to be a short interview. that can put some veterans in a quandary if they don't own a suit after returning to civilian life. joy wang tells us how one organization in michigan is hoping that getting vets well- dressed... will land them jobs.

richard merrigan remembers how hard it was looking for jobs after serving in the united states air force for 6 years. (sot: richard merrigan, holt amereran legion commander) "i didn't have a suit and a matter of fact i had very few civilian clothes. so it was kind of a handicap when we first went out for interviews." he had to borrow a suit... shirt and tie from a friend... but it still took took him six months to finally get the job. (sot: richard merrigan, holt american legion cocoander) "there no one to tell you what to do so you got to do it all on your own." that's why he's working with local groups and businesses to make sure veterans in the area don't have to do it alone. (sot: richard merrigan, holt american legion commander) "this will give them something they can be proud to wear." they've collected more than 50 suits in two weeks. (sot: john hayhoe, holt kiwanis) "donated from citizens in the community. and we're getting together. we have a tailor lined up who will adjust the suits for free for the veterans." with congenital heart defects, so that's a lot of children who have a scar from that." starting this change dot org petition lamaya and her mom christen already have 16- hundred signatures in less than a week. (christen sakales, lamaya's mother): "i would say that 90- percent of the signatures are from other congenital heart defect families and people who would like to see that doll made for their kids." just last week the popular brand started selling a doll with a diabetic kit. all thanks to this 11-year- ol in wisconsin getting more than four- thousand signatures on her petition. lamaya hopes hers will do the same. (lamaya sakales, heart surgery patient): "if they're feeling overwhelmed they can look at their dolls chest scars and feel like they're awesome, they're brave, they're cool" a counselor we spoke to says dolls that look like children with illnesses help them be more comfortable with their own condition (lisa mcdaniel, social work counselor): "if its not handled in a healthy way, they tend to act out and be angry or they can suffer from anxiety or depression, social withdrawal or problems with school." while lamaya loves her american dolls, she says its time for something new and hopes

"i've seen her fight on these issues for 30 straight years and she will be a great president. as i say she is smart, she is strong, she is passionate

next president of the united states of america," said virginia governor, terry mcauliffe. mcauliffe is making capmaign appearances across iowa on clinton's behalf. gop candidate rick santorum returned to iowa this weekend. the former senator talked about the importance of getting out and interacting with iowans. more than 70 people attended the house party last night in sac city. those at the gathering spoke with santorum about issues of national security, faith, and action he would take if elected. the former senator explained the importance of meeting one-on-one with iowans leading up to the caucus. "a lot can happen and the reason a lot can is becuase iowans don't pay attention to the attention to what the experts say are best for them. they go out and do what these 75-80 people are doing here tonight; which is come out, meet the candidates, and kick the tires," said rick santorum, gop candidate. santorum will be in orange city this morning for a town hall at

iowa's fourth district will have a gop primary in 2016. paul lunde of ames, iowa officially announced today that he will seek the republican nomination for the fourth disctrict seat in the u.s. house of representativ es. lunde will be running against king. lunde plans to introduce 12 constitutiona l amendments if he gets elected. included in those amendments are a plan to end lifetime appointments for all new fedeal judges, including supreme court justices. he would also federal budget without raising the income tax or requiring cuts in federal spending. for more information on lunde's campaign you org. proposals to expand medicaid and raise south dakota teacher pay are expected to dominate the 2016 legislative session. lawmakers return tomorrow to pierre, where they must set the state budget and will tackle a spread of issues during the session. gov. dennis daugaard's plan to expand

conditions. it's also unclear how lawmakers will raise pay for south dakota teachers, whose salaries are lowest in the nation. the iowa legislature is expected to tackle k through 12 education and water quality initiatives in the session that begins today. the democratic- controlled senate and the republican- led house have long been at odds over how much money to spend on education. the 2016 session will likely continue that pattern. ktiv's matt breen is in des moines and will have coverage from the capitol on news 4 tonight. we've seen quite a bit of snow so far this winter... but mother nature hasn't been so generous to new jersey with snow. so one man applied the do-it-yourself concept to compensate for the missing snowfall. vanessa murdock explains how it worked.

on friday, the stock market closed out its worst week since 2011, rattled by concerns over a slowdown in china's economy and plunging oil prices. energy stocks were among the biggest decliners. the dow lost more than 167 points closing at 16,346. the nasdaq gave up nearly 46 points and the s&p fell 21 points. frontier airlines is adding dozens of new routes to its service. with more on that story and other business news, here's kaitlyn kinney.... thanks guys. denver-based frontier airlines

"a lot can happen and the reason a lot can is becuase iowans don't pay attention to the national polls, they don't pay attention to what the experts say are best for them. they go out and do what these 75-80 people are doing here tonight; which is come out, meet the candidates, and kick the tires," said rick santorum, gop candidate. santorum will be in orange city this morning for a town hall at the pizza ranch. it starts at 10 o'clock.

a gop primary in 2016. paul lunde of ames, iowa says he will challenge congressman steve king for his seat. lunde plans to introduce 12 constitutiona l amendments if he gets elected. included in those amendments are a plan to end lifetime appointments for all new federal judges, including supreme court justices. he would also incorporate a balanced federal budget without raising the income tax or requiring cuts in federal spending. for more information on lunde's campaign you can visit lunde for congress dot org. proposals to expand medicaid and dakota teacher pay are expected to dominate the 2016 legislative session. lawmakers return tomorrow to pierre, where they must set the state budget and will tackle a spread of issues during the session. gov. dennis daugaard's plan to expand medicaid comes with plenty of conditions. it's also unclear how lawmakers will raise pay for south dakota teachers, whose nation. the iowa legislature is expected to tackle k through 12 education

i can't believe it's butter! dozens gathered to witness the unveiling of the carefully crafted butter sculpture to open the 100th pennsylvania farm show last week. the sculpture features a dairy cow, farm family, baby chicks, and apple pies. organizers say about one-thousand pounds of butter was used and it took the sculptor a record-setting 14 days to make. they say the butter is not edible and will be recycled to help power a nearby farm. officials expect more than 500-thousand people to attend the farm festivities, which started saturday and will run through
