"we've created the nebraska developing youth talent initiative which is working with private sector companies to get involved with our schools to help develop some of that training at an early age," said nebraska governor pete ricketts. today, ricketts also taked about the controversial policy the nebraska school activities association board passed that would allow transgender students to participate in sports. the board passed its gender participation policy on a six-to-two vote. extend the tax by 20-years, to 2049. the first 10-million dollars of new revenue, each year, will go to schools. right now, all schools share 458-million dollars. but, by 2049, the total grows to 788-million dollars, annually. over the next 33-years, the tax split will be worth 4- billion dollars to the state's water quality initiatives. "the farmers i've talked to, the businesses i've talked to, the environmentalists i've talked to all are complemetary that we've come up with an "outside the box", unique idea here," said gov. terry branstad, (r) iowa. request for more state aid to schools. sioux city's education association is advocating for raises for local teachers in their initial proposal for tbhe 2016-2017 school year. regional director bruce lear says, like every year, they hope to get more pay for teachers. this year, the union is asking for an six-percent increase for salaried teachers. "teachers are professionals as we begin this process, what we're looking for is the recognition of the work that they do in order to help kids achieve," bruce lear, director for the sioux city education association. the union is also asking for smaller class sizes, which would require the district to hire more teachers. the sioux city community school board will review the proposal, and provide a responding proposal on january 28th. afterwards, the groups will have private negotiations to settle on a final contract. the community development agency, in south sioux city, is looking for commercial developers to propose ideas for

the area, which is called the "all american division", is behind the walmart on cornhusker drive. it has 11 available lots. each one is between one- and-a-half and three-and- half acres. the price is about 35- thousand an acre. the cda has been marketing the land for a few years. for anyone interested in purchasing land they can contact the economic development director at the number on the bottom of the screen. deputies in sac county, iowa, are trying to determine how a school bus and pick-up collided on highway 20, late this afternoon. the sac sun newspaper reports the accident happened, at about 4:20pm, at the intersection of highway 20 and rolf avenue. that's about four miles north of sac city. as you can see by the pictures, the bus ended up in a deep ditch on the northwest side of the road. a dispatcher with the sac county sheriff's office couldn't offer any additional details. so, we don't know if any students were on the bus at the time of the accident. we hope to have more for you tomorrow when the sheriff's issues a press release. a rock valley, iowa, man has been sentenced to

meth charges. a judge sentenced 29- year-old austin mulder to an additional five years in prison for possession of pseudoephedr ine as precursor with intent to manufacture meth. in october of 2014 police found a meth lab, and remnants from a previous meth cook, at mulder's home. mulder was sentenced to five years in prison to run concurrently to his current prison terms imposed in sioux county. still to come... we'll show you some ways to whittle away at the weight you gained over the holidays.
