request for more state aid to schools. sioux city's education association is advocating for raises for local teachers in their initial proposal for tbhe 2016-2017 school year. regional director bruce lear says, like every year, they hope to get more pay for teachers. this year, the union is asking for an six-percent increase for salaried teachers. "teachers are professionals as we begin this process, what we're looking for is the recognition of the work that they do in order to help kids achieve," bruce lear, director for the sioux city education association. the union is also asking for smaller class sizes, which would require the district to hire more teachers. the sioux city community school board will review the proposal, and provide a responding proposal on january 28th. afterwards, the groups will have private negotiations to settle on a final contract. the community development agency, in south sioux city, is looking for commercial developers to propose ideas for
