florida governor rick scott toured tornado damage after storms ripped through the southwest part of the state early sunday morning. two people were killed and dozens of homes were destroyed as an e-f-2 tornado swept through manatee county. the national weather service says winds reached up to 127 miles-per- hour and caused destruction along a nine- mile stretch. in sarasota county, another e-f-2 storm blasted through the area with winds reaching 132 miles-per-hour. county officials say about 45 properties suffered more than three-million florida power and light says more than 200-thousand people lost power. we're learning more about a the 3300 block of morgan st. in sioux city saturday night. the blaze began shortly after 6 p.m. one witness tells ktiv that there was so much smoke, that the blue pick-up truck next door wasn't visible.

house looks now. authorities say they returned to the home this morning to put out spot fires and classified the investigators won't be at the home until tuesday. no word yet on what caused the fire. sioux city detective jeremy mcclure said no people were inside the home during the fire, but there were three dogs. mcclure says all the dogs are safe and sound. reverend jesse jackson led a rally for justice in flint michigan.. protesting governor snyder's response to the lead water crisis. the reverend spoke at the heavenly host church of the harvest... saying "this is a disaster... not just an emergency." in april 2014 republican governor snyder appointed an emergency manager in flint... who switched the city's water source to save money. the move was reversed when tests indicated increased lead levels in residential water and children's blood. yesterday, reverend jackson said the governor should take responsibility for his

pope francis yesterday denounced all religiously- inspired violence during a visit to rome's main synagogue. the pope was greeted by the city's chief rabbi when he arrived for his first visit to the synagogue. he went to meet with rome's jewish community as a sign of interfaith friendship at a time of extremist attacks around the globe. during a visit marked by tight security, francis also rejected all forms of anti-semitism. he paused in his remarks to acknowledge holocaust survivors in the synagogue's front row, which drew a standing ovation. studing for college entrance

applying to schools can be a stressful time. but, there's a new business in town that hopes to limit that stress. new horizon helps you prepare for your act or sat tests. the company also offers tutoring for grades 6 through 12. the owner says the earlier a student begins to prepare... the better. "our data shows the earlier you start the better they preform. by sophomore year or tenth grade they are done with the acts; which gives parents and students a lot of free time to focus on ap exams, college credit courses," said manoj patil, founder and owner of new horizon tutoring the courses meet for about an hour a week and there's a staff of 22 tutors. one mother with two daughters in new horizon says the program does more than just improve test scores. "i don't think my oldest daughter, even though she was always a good student, i don't even think she knew what she was capable of until she went through the process and really pushed herself to her limits," said kathleen saltzemn,

"it's important to remember our spirituality and embrace it because that's who we are and that's what defines us people and indigenous people," said vernon miller, omaha tribal chairman. "we come together and use prayer. there are many forms of spirituality. for us it's a way of life, it's not a religion and so today is an expression of that."

the state early sunday morning. two people were killed and dozens of homes were destroyed as an e-f-2 tornado swept through manatee county. the national weather service says winds reached up to 127 miles-per- hour and caused destruction along a nine- mile stretch. in sarasota county, another e-f-2 storm blasted through the area with winds reaching 132 miles-per-hour. county officials say about 45 properties suffered more than three-million dollars in damage. florida power and light says more than 200-thousand people lost power. a fire severely damaged a sioux city home saturday night. the fire broke out at a house on the 3300 block of morgan street just before 6 o'clock. authorities say they returned to the home sunday morning to put out hot spots. no word yet on what caused the fire. sioux city police say no one was home when the fire broke out, but authorities rescued three dogs that were inside. they're expected to be ok. reverend jesse jackson led a rally for justice in flint michigan.. protesting governor snyder's response to the lead water crisis.
