apologize for yelling at them.more than two-dozen states that are challenging president barack obama's immimiation policies will have their say before the u.s. supreme court. the justices have agreed to decide, in this election year, whether obama acted within his powers with his executive order allowing up to five million immigrants who are in the country illegally to get work permits and some federal benefits. so far, federal courts have sided with the states. the white house says it's confident the high court will uphold president obama's executive actions. if it does, he'll have about seven months left to implement his plans. texas is leading the 26 mainly republican- dominated states in chalnging the immigration plan. there's been no luck so far in the search for 12 crew

helicopters crashed off the coast of hawaii search teams have found inflated, empty life rafts but still no sign of the missing personnel. threeeef the four life rafts aboard the helicopters have been recovered. conditions have improved since the start of the search last thursday night, with much smaller waves. the search now includes areas along the shoreline as well as under water. we're learning more about how those american prisoners released by iran were treated during their time in captivity. nbc's keir simmons reports that their recovery will be a slow process.

"they will elect delegates to the county convention that's going to be held on march 12th." democrats on the other hand, have what's called a "call vote." after each campaign makes its pitch, democrats split up into groups, which support a particulul candidate. if a candidate's support group doesn't meet a "viability" threshold, which is set at the beginning of the caucus, that "preference group" isn't "viable." those supporters must then re- align&with another candidate that's still "viable." volunteers who will be counting votes from the presidential ballots. once those numbers are ready, they are sent to des moines for the final count. donations to red kettles in siouxland added up to record-breaking numbers this holiday season. officials with the salvation army of siouxland say donations to their red kettle campaign brought in more than 203-thousand dollars. that exceeded their goal of 180-thousand by 12 percent. more than 300 volunteer bell ringers collected donations at 15 locations around siouxland from just before thanksgiving to christmas eve. officials say they are grateful for the generosity and support. on the way, a bird flu outbreak in indiana is spspading... and senator john thune sings the praises of a growing business in

banking stocks are leading gains on wall street athe market recovers from last week's steep sell-off. u.s. senator john thune is praising a dakota dunes business. the south dakota republican toured malloy electric on monday. malloy is an industrial service repair center that serves the mining, oil, wind andd ethanol industries amongngthers. thune says malloy is an exexple of a business that is growing and employs many people. "it's always nice for me to have an opportunity to get across our state, see different types of businesses, kind of find out what their needs are, if there are things we could be doing differently," said u.s. senator john thune of south dakota. malloy has customers in ten states. thune says he would like to promote economic growth and development in south dakota and across the region. still ahead, pete rose is going

today that baseball's all-time hits leader will be inducted into the team's hall of fame in june. he won't, however, be inducted into major league baseball's. that's a battle that continues. rose was banned from baseball for life in n -89 for betting on the sport. last month, the new m-l-b commissioner upheld that lifetime ban. now to outpouring of support following the shocking death of eagles co-founder, glenn frey. the 67-year-old music legend died monday in new york city.. the band says for the past several weeks.. frey had been battling complications from rheumatoid arthritis, pneumonia and a digestive issue. here's nbc's carson daly.
