toward the presidential election. in a little more than 24- hours from now republicans and democrats will have a better idea of which candidate will be their party's presidential nominee. iowans caucus starting at seven o'clock, monday night. and, every four years, some states-- and even more members of the media-- wonder why? iowa doesn't have the best track record when picking the parties' nominees, or president. iowa republicans haven't had it right since george w. bush in 2004. iowa democrats had notable "misses" in 1988 with dick gephardt, and 1992 with tom harkin. but, the chairs of iowa's political parties seem set on setting the

they've partnered with microsoft to use an app that will streamline the reporting process, and hopefully eliminate the problems that plagued republicans in 2012. that story, tonight, at ten. i'm joined now by amanda who spoke with nbc's lester holt. i had the chance to spend some time with nbc nightly news' lester holt earlier this afternoon...hi s camp is actually posted up at the iowa historical center overlooking the capitol...that's about 10 blocks from the media center -- he told me that iowa is absolutely electric right now... i asked lester if he was surprised by the election season...he immediately said no question...we have senator bernie sanders who this time last year, only people from vermont were familiar with...and now he's giving hillary a run for her money...and he said who would have thought that donald trump would be essentially dominating the gop side. we've got you covered live in des moines -- amanda goodman and matt breen.

there's a lot of talk about the miles candidates trek as they look to lock up a victory tomorrow night. but, what about the media? ktiv's robert lowe is with livelink 4 in des moines with those details. robert? here in iowa, it's nearly impossible to pick up a newspaper, listen to the radio, or turn on the television without seeing signs surronding iowa's first in the nation caucus. but, it takes a lot of hard working journalists, both near and far, to create this media madness.

"people are interested in what's going on. in the end it's the president of the united states who's being elected and the whole process starts here,"said martin reznicek, czech tv news. reznicek is filing a report that will air nearly 5,000 he's not alone. in fact, reporters from 18 countries are credentialed at the iowa caucuses media center. "anything that takes place in united states that is major is considered as an important event in france," said mathieu coache, bfm, tv france "so, of course, this is very important, everybody knows that. the germans are very interested in american elections," said heather dorf- dolce, ard-german radio tv network. proving every four years will continue to feature a media frenzy in iowa.

introduced the man who would introduce him. that was a clear sign of respect for iowa senator chuck grassley. all over this cafe, you could see signs naming each of the 99 counties huckabee has been to... as he's completed the so-called "full grassley." huckabee spent a great deal of time talking about ethanol -- trying to separate himself from someone who has picked up a lot of his 2008 supporters -- senator ted cruz. we spoke with voters at today's event... and they have a very interesting story to tell. they're from illinois, but are vacationing in iowa because of the caucuses. they told me -- cancun will always be there -- but a political event like this only comes around once every four years. we'll hear from them tonight -- plus a comedian fans of a very popular show would recognize. he's on the road with a candidate right now. that's all tonight at 10. we've got you covered live in des moines, jerry gallagher kwwl news. mike huckabee has struggled to get traction in iowa this time around, but says he knows most iowans don't make up their mind until the last minute... and he's hoping to make a big splash tomorrow night. the party and precinct you belong to determines where you'll caucus.

at 13 different locations in woodbury county, 10 of those being in sioux city. remember that your caucus site is probably not your regular voting site. if you don't know your precinct there's a website for both the democratic and the republican parties. head on over to ktiv.com to find your precinct. the link will be inside the story. candidates from both parties are making their final stops around siouxland today. it's their last chance to connect with voters before iowans take to the polls. new jersy governor chris christie stopped at morningside college early today. the governor addressed his plans to fight immigration, isis and homeland security. in christie's words, he would be suprised if donald trump wins the iowa caucuses. he says it's time to bring the country together and the caucus is the first step to do so. "you're going to matter tomorrow night in a big way to thise whole country. the whole country is watching you tomorrow night. the tone you set and the people you pick are going to help determine the c ourse of this country. but the show is over now, it's time to get to work," said gov. chris christie, presidential candidate.

blizzard watches in effect for almost all of siouxland except yankton, holt, antelope, and verdei counties from early tuesday morning through wednesday morning. the clouds that were with us on saturday ended up clearing out quite nicely making for quite a nice sunday across siouxland. temperatures were above average once again, with lots of towns breaking into the 40s. lows will be colder tonight with temperatures bottoming out in the 20s under partly cloudy skies. but as the weekend comes

reopening to the public. there was s fire that damaged the restaurant on january 11th. investigators say it was caused by smoking material that was disposed improperly. today, owners and staff will show thanks to contractors and volunteers who helped remodel the interior with the first dinner since the incident. sneaky's will reopen to the public tomorrow at 11 a-m. the community celebrated a very special occasion today. "happy birthday to you) nat pop brookdale senior living solutions had a full room of people celebrating gabrielle perry's 105th birthday. there was singing, cakes and gifts to honor perry. when asked what her secret to a happy and healthy life, she answered... "see everybody asks me that," said 105- year-old gabrielle pepey. "i have a cousing that sent me a plaque and it says, to live a long life, live your life." perry was born in jefferson south dakota on a farm.

the iowa men suffered their first big ten defeat on thursday against maryland. it's tight at the top of the conference standings - just one and a half games separates the top 5 teams. that means that the hawkeyes could ill- afford a home loss to northwestern, who's 3-and-6 in big ten play. iowa, still 7-and-1 in big ten play. but northwestern comes out swinging - tre demps for 3 - he had 30 - wildcats out front, 18-14. back for iowa - jarrod uthoff - just 2-of-13 on thursday - nice bounceback today, uthoff scoring 23 points for the hawkeyes. the other scorer was peter jok - tie game in the first - jok hits a three - iowa takes a 21-18 lead. and it was all iowa from there - nicholas baer for three - hawkeyes hit 7 triples on the day. jok adds one in the second half to put iowa up 16 - jok scores 26 and
