9:01 am
the new movie, that we never landed on the moon. that'll lead us to the topic of the day. do you believe in conspiracy theorys? what are your thoughts? we have the new thoughts, is there anything out there, you're like, i don't buy this. what do you think? alive. he's been dead since 1996. he's been -- apparently he died in 1996, but every three to five years, he makes a new album. it resurfaces every couple of years, it cracks me up. he's dead. but i know the producers are there and he laid down songs, that didn't get recorded. >> dave pointed out the fact that the new albums are coming out, and they seemed like they were too current. >> i think he's hiding out somewhere. >> him and elvis.
9:02 am
>> making money on royalties. and i don't know. the con trails -- contrails a plane flies, they have the smoke that dissipates really quick, and some that fly, and the line stays there a long time. some think there's chemicals in that, that are controlling the weather. i'm not married to this, but my theory is after the nuclear explosion in japan and the water was filled with the nuclear stuff, the feds, you know what, we have this ability, let's stop as much rain from hitting the west coast as possible. up until recently, it's not been that rainy, and let's stop it from making it to the states. that's what i think it could have happened. >> you never know.
9:03 am
there's some conspiracy, that you hate? >> i don't know. >> the conspiracy that we didn't land on the moon -- >> not that i've heard of. >> anything 9/11. >> global warming? >> not a conspiracy theory. come on. >> our producer, is speaking up, tyler says, i definitely believe that jfk's assassination was a conspiracy, it was the guys on the grassy knoll. >> it was too weird. >> and brittany says, i try not to think about them, i find them guess. >> that's why it's there. but the people, they want to say -- >> a lot of people want to believe and come up with their own ideas.
9:04 am
living out of conspiracy theories. alex jones. he makes a living making conspiracy theories. some of them are [inaudible] some are so insane, but he profits off of making them. you have to consider the source. and if he was writing what he was saying, wouldn't he be gone? they would wipe him out. >> get excited about. >> i'm so excited. you can share your comments on our facebook and twitter pages, and finds us on vegasmorningblend.com. we have him fired up here. mother nature can put a damper on your life when bad weather strikes, but having the proper flood insurance, can protect you when the rain keeps falling. >> let's face it the weather pattern has changed from previous seasons. someone always blames it on el nino.
9:05 am
exactly is el nino, and how to protect your property from the unexpected weather? here to tell us, a man, jim cantore. how are you? >> hey sean, how are you doing? el nino, we have godzilla el nino, and every storm is blamed on el nino. think of it like this. a baseball team has nine players on the field, right? not just one contributes to the end result of the game every night, usually it's a multitude of the weather. el nino is just the super star right now. hitting for heavy rain, and what we'll watch with el nino, are situations like we saw in december in the nation's midsection, very heavy rain, and last week, we was it in southern california, and every el nino is different.
9:06 am
not what we'll have in 2015, 2016. we're learning the nuances of el nino. >> how does it work? is it something happening over the pacific that causes this? >> the warming of the pacific waters off of south america. extend out to several thousands miles. what it does is juice up the jet stream a bit. now you have the warm waters, all the warm moisture gets into the jet stream, the jet stream moves faster to equalize it, and then you have severe thunderstorm out breaks in florida, and the midsections and heavy rain in southern california. and dry weather, if you will over the midwest. that's the typical el nino. there again, there's tweaks in every el nino. >> no question, you mentioned southern california, obviously
9:07 am
from droughts to downpour, there's nowhere tr the water to go. do you see a pattern going? >> we've already had great storminess. great snow for arizona. and i think expect the continuation of stormy weather in southern parts of nevada, and northern arizona, southern california, northern new mexico as well. i don't think that'll change. i really think we're not done with the el nino, probably not half way through it. yes, it'll wane as we work our way into the spring. but the trablts of it -- attributes of it, the heavy rain and the heavy snow in the mountains will continue to spring. >> absolutely, and we've seen our fair share of bad flooding. what safety precautions can we take to protect our property and
9:08 am
>> the first thing that people need to realize is the homeowner's insurance policy does not cover flooding. looking at las vegas, you have 735 households, 7,000 of them, have insurance. you live in a high desert, that's not something -- but you're prone to flash flooding. it comes rushing down into the city, that's a huge deal. if you're in an area where the water comes out of the risk. as long as the earth warms, we downpours. the average cost of a policy is $490. assess your flood risk, call your insurance agent, they can

policy. 30 days later, once you get it, it'll go in effect. don't do it when you know it's going to flood. by the time you do it, at the end of the day, you have to wait 30 days. >> great to have you. >> exactly. >> thank you very much. >> thank you. >> protect yourself in case the unimaginable happens. learn more of your flood risk, by going to this website. action news is giving you a chance to win two tickets, enter each day at ktnv.com, and watch live at 11 to see if you win. a proud sponsor of action news and is providing the prizes for this promising. lace up your running shoes, you're watching the morning
