california border stores have a majority of nevada residents. with no state lottery here... those wanting to play... are forced to make the drive out of state. but... how much money are nevadans giving... the state of california? action news reporter.... marissa kynaston.... crunched those numbers. nevada is one of five states without a lottery system-- forcing those who want to play-- across state lines for powerball tickets. some people head to arizona-- but most make the drive to california-- funneling more revenue into that state. the director of gaming research at unlv says-- that's millions of dollars leaving the state of nevada. sot david schwartz well if we had a lottery, obviously people wouldn't be crossing state
6:17 pm
it begs the question-- how much money are nevada residents giving to the state of california? the california lottery does not track sales by city or even county-- show math chart so we reached out to the primm valley lotto store-- but they were unable to confirm their ticket sales. according to the new york times-- that store sold 13 million dollars worth of lottery tickets back in 2009. and safe to say-- a majority of their customers are nevada residents. in california-- about a third of powerball sales go to the state's education system-- so theoritically-- thats four million dollars being pumped into california schools-- just from that one border store location. and that's millions of dollars that could be used right here in nevada schools-- if our state were to follow california-- and choose to allocate a portion of sales-- to public education. take sot david schwartz it's hard to say where the funding would go, it might go into general fund like gaming money does marissa tag even if there was support for the lottery in the state of nevada-- it could

amount of moisture but the rain won't make it to las vegas. any moisture that is there will get squeezed out by the sierra in california and won't be much more than some thick cloud cover for las vegas and southern nevada. the good thing with this pattern is that temperatures will generally start to warm up as climatologically the temperatures moderate towards the end of january. highs for the next several days will be in the mid and upper 50s with friday looking to be the warmest day for a little while. clouds on saturday will cool things off and some clouds could contain a sprinkle or two friday night into saturday and saturday night into sunday. another more potent looking storm will push in for monday night into tuesday with another chance for some light rain. dynamics with these storms are weak at best and won't cause much of an interruption to the weather as normal for las vegas. now... to the latest consumer news...
