in connecticut, put it in tractor-trailers, drove it out here, put it down on the jubilee stage, like where the dancers dance, and they had like an inch on one side and an inch on the other. it fit perfectly. >> wow. and does the set look as big as it does on tv? >> i'm saying it looks a little smaller. but it's so impressive because every inch of it is lit up. it's worth going to be in the audience just to see the game show lighting effect. >> oh, yeah. >> it's >> and to meet chris harrison, who is fantastic. >> yes, the host. >> i've been on a lot of sets, as you know. a genuinely nice, nice guy. we have him speaking here. he's so passionate about being in las vegas. like truly. i asked him how the audience changed for him this year being in las vegas. so here he goes. >> you think, vegas, right, that's a shot in the arm of the that is the ultimate shot in the arm. i've just seen such a spark with our audiences that have come in here because it's an attraction.

day. you come in and see a taping of millionaire. the audiences have been on fire. we've got local contestants from here in nevada. but also so many tourists come through, we've been able to test people and found tourists that want to be on the show. it really has been a win-win on really every angle. >> nice. >> fun, right? >> yeah. >> so i talked to a lot of the people who were in line and waiting to go in and be audience and it really was a mix, a lot of locals, like at least 50% locals. one gal was celebrating her dad's birthday. then y traveled to las vegas. this one guy i talked to has auditioned to be a contestant on the show. you can go to the audience and also audition to be the audience. >> you can be both. >> yes. you have to be in the audience to audition to be a contestant. >> aha. >> this guy has auditioned to be a contestant 16 times. >> has he ever made it on the show? >> he hasn't made it on the show. i said, i'm going to quiz you to get you ready. he was there again.

either go watch a show be filmed -- we're talk being season 15. if you're a bachelor fan, you have to get down there 'cause he's a charmer. boy. is that guy a charmer. he is smooth. he really builds the suspense with the contestants. >> of course. >> he makes you nervous. >> yeah. it's the whole thing in your stomach. this mistake that i'm about to make is going to cost me a million dollars. >> yeah. but they're all very excited. truly excited. it's a natural fit to be shoow here. >> of course. >> i tald producer, james rollly, a lovely guy. and regarding being a contestant, 'cause he goes out and searches for contestants. this is what he told me and surprises me and why i think you might do well. >> the perfect millionaire contestant for us, it's not about knowledge. this is not a game of knowing a bunch of facts. that's a big misconception of the millionaire is actually a game of range. you will do really well in this show if you know a little bit about a lot of things.

to be a part of the super hero weekend? >> well, i am looking forward to seeing wonder woman as well. i'm also hoping maybe batman and captain america might be there, too. >> nice. >> again, we're really community oriented and we've had a good partnership with springs preserve. it's a god way for us to celebrate our first year here. >> there are going to be really fun crafts as well. >> yes. >> tell me about that. >> if you have an aspiring super hero, you can bring them wn the springs preservation this weekend and they can make their own capes. they can make some masks and enjoy a little frozen treat. all for free. sendoff the summer. >> and las vegas review journal said you were the best place to take an out of town guest. that's pretty awesome. >> it is. it's something we're proud of. it's a nice escape from what you would consider the las vegas. >> this city is filled with places to bring out of town

[ laughter ] >> i was very impressed with that, too. yes, the cape. >> i was very impressed with that as well. i was looking you up online yesterday because i get to visit, as i mentioned before. and i couldn't believe you have a lot of acres and you're really quite central in town. >> oh, yes. >> unique spot. >> yeah. 180 acres located a mile or so away from downtown right on valley view in the 95 freeway. you can't miss us. when you drive by get off when you see big hila monster on the side. >> it's one of those places if you're new to the valley and are like it's all concrete. just no nature. oh, my goodness, you go into springs preserve, you're just transport to do a different place. it's really incredible. >> and that would be why you want to bring visitors there. >> of course. bring yourself there. >> let me show you something about las vegas you didn't know,

>> absolutely. >> will you tell me a little about the history of the preserve? >> the preserve is 180 acres. so it's a large site. it really is the home of the first nonnative people that moved to las vegas. different times of year it was owned by some of the famous las vegassans who streets and schools are named after. places that lived at the site. originally at different times it was a ranch. it was a place -- there is still historic cottages and things located on preserve was designated as a national historic site and overseen by the water district. they thought it would be a great opportunity to build a facility that demonstrates how people can live kind of in harmony with the desert instead of in defiance of it. they built a museum that's a little bit of something for everybody. there is botanical gardens, sustainability lessons all found on property. >> how nice we get to share it. >> no question. great having both of you.

president brian patchett, along with amanda shipp and her son. good morning, everybody. >> great having you. >> good morning. >> brian, tell us about easter seals in southern nevada and what the mission is. >> the mission of easter seals is to help children and adults with disabilities become more independent every day. that's what we do. and as a person with a disability, i am so passionate about what we do. we serve over 8500 children and adults in nevada every year. >> that's fantastic. so you have kids to camp. what makes it so special? >> i love camp. i still love camp. i love to camp. we all learn so much when we're camping. we want that experience to be wonderful for everyone, including kids with disabilities. so over the years we've always looked to do things that help to make that possible. so this year we're excited, the 18th through the 22nd, this week we're going to have 20 kids up at camp having a wonderful time doing all kinds of things, playing all kinds of different games and it's gonna

>> i love the camp, too. i have fond memory. >> i remember summer car. i always had fun going on the bus every day to camp. lot of fun. there was one camp, but that was a different one. there was another one, it was great. i liked it. >> i just remember it was a new group of people and getting to be in the outdoors. tell me about this camp this week that's very exciting. what will those 20 kids be spending their time doing? >> they're gonna do lots of fun things. i asked him what favorite things was. >> okay. okay. my favorite part about camp is water balloons. >> oh, yes! >> have my own buck making friends. >> lot of things. >> archery. >> that's my favorite. >> summer camp, oh, my goodness. are you good? >> yes. >> oh, man. we should have an art shop.

[ laughter ] we like your shoes, but your smile really takes the cake, i have to say. >> let's talk about the change that you've seen postcamp for kayson and how special is it? >> absolutely. he started with easter seals at the age of six weeks old. so we're so excited about having a new chapter in his life of kids camp. he has never been before. this will be his first experience. >> no way! >> yeah. >> it's going to be pretty cool. >> are you packed? >> yes. [ laughter ] >> wow! >> this is exciting. you're gonna have a lot of fun. >> yes. the easter seals staff, again, he started at six weeks.

and the growth. look where he's at. and they continue to explore and design new activities for people with disabilities. we're just pleased that he's part of this program. >> that's phenomenal. >> we're looking at a clown here. >> and an event with ringling brothers & barnum & bailey circus? >> absolutely. we've done that as well. that's part of what we do for recreation for kids with disabilities. >> you have an event coming up as well. >> yes. we have cheers to chocolate in henderson to raise money. that will be great, live mus what i love are video games from the '80s on free play. i love that. then our zombie run, which will be in october. so october 22. we're working with the city. we're gonna be dressing up as zombies and running. great event. >> that is so much fun! have you done that before? that's a great idea. >> i love it. usually zombies that i'm involved with also involves nerve guns. but i'm not sure. [ laughter ] >> listen, i heard '80s games, you and i, donkey kong challenge.

is founder of lone woof rescue, jim dahlund and marketing director, nicki hiers. good morning, you guys. >> good morning. >> who is this beautiful, beautiful dog? >> this is lucy. >> so sweet. >> this dog is so adorable. how can we help a puppy like lucia here? what's her story? >> lucia is going on four years old. she was rescued off of death row in a high kill in 2013. she's been looking for a home for three years now. >> no kidding. >> oh, my. >> her and her mother both. >> she's such --nately, she has cancer. mast cell cancer. >> oh, no. >> we're looking to raise money to help with her vet care and doing diagnosis and surgery and try to keep her going for a few more years. >> absolutely. >> how did you discover she had

cancer. it's hereditary. we rescued her mother and her together. >> you've been at this now for quite a bit of time, obviously taking care of these dogs. it's not inexpensive. >> no, it's not. >> care is our biggest expense. making sure that they're all healthy and they're all well taken care of until we can find them that forever home. >> all the love here. >> she's a mommy. j.d., you have a special for bully breeds. why is that? >> i just saw what was happening to the breed and how they were being, you know, just misused. >> miscategorized as well. >> right. >> you can tell she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. >> not at all. >> hi, mama. such a sweetheart. >> she's so smooth. you just want to love her. >> so cute. you have a ranch where you actually have these pets.

learning to live with diabetes can be a major questions of when to eat, glucose levels and exercise require management. southern nevada health district has developed a program that helps you take control of your diabetes. >> that's right. it's called care4life. here to tell us all about it is rayleen earney, health educator from the southern nevada health district, as well as larry wagman, a participant in the program. great having both of you. how are you? >> good. thank you for having us. >> explain care4life to us.

i know when my dad was diagnosed, he was overwhelmed. there is a lot of information to take on. >> absolutely. so what we want to do do at the health district is bring awe program to help manage diabetes. so instead of having to go to a class, the information comes to you. tips to eat better, get moving, and really control that blood sugar so you don't have health complications. >> you've done this very modernly. i'm very impressed with their technology because this is online and it's an app that you use yourself. >> that's correct. absolutely. so you can participate on your computer or download it and get text messages on your phone. >> larry, you were like all right. i got diabetes. this whole doing the management thing is for the birds. there's got to be a better way. and you found a better way. how did you connect and learn with the care4life program? >> well, i became active in the care4life through a friend of mine, dr. ruben, who is like my hero.

he got me involved in this. care4life, i've been a diabetic for 54 years. >> wow. >> i just figured out the last seven months, 45 pounds and six inches off my list. by not eating any bread. bread and sodas. >> that's it? i'm going to stop eating bread and sodas. >> look at that. >> are those your pants? >> those are my pants. that's on tv. i didn't know that. [ laughter >> it's great. >> congratulations! that's quite the feat. >> how did you did -- you used care4life. what were the most important tips that you learned? >> the most important tips were the fact that i get every morning at 9:00 o'clock it reminds me to take my medication. during the day it tells me to check my blood sugar before lunch, check it after lunch, check it before dinner. and it gives you tips on what to eat and what not to eat.

have learned in -- by having a diabetic is you can have diabetes and live with it if you exercise and if you do something with your life. a lot of people with diabetes, especially my age, we're tired. we sit home. we do nothing. >> become a lump. >> we become a lump. a couch potato. that's where i gained my weight. by losing weight and getting things to do, i volunteer with the police departments. >>re volunteers positions you can do. but in volunteering with metro, i will walk the airport and i walk five miles. >> there we go. in air conditioned. >> right. at that me it's a country club because i work at the airport and it's fun. but i do other things. we give handicapped parking tickets out. but it gets us out of the house in the morning. >> of course. >> and this is what you have to do.

somewhat personal. you were wanting to control your diabetes. >> i wanted to control my diabetes because i want -- i have a wife, i have wonderful kids. i want to see them grow old with me. >> certainly. is this you and your wife? >> good for you. hey. >> not bad. >> you did pretty well. >> see look at you guys. you look so active. and healthy. fight for. >> there is something to fight for. you know what? it's easy once you start doing it. really. if you find -- whether you volunteer for metro, go to a hospital and volunteer, anything you do is to get out of bed in the morning, give yourself something to do and do it. >> let's talk about the program. obviously there are people out there that are fighting diabetes that don't know about the program, that don't know about
