(nats waves) rough seas, high winds, and strong storm surge threaten the coastline from south carolina to as far north as connecticut.

storm could stall offshore, gain strength, then slam back into the eastern seaboard. (mayor bill de blasio/ (d) new to the way we prepare for this the mayor of new york says no swimming will be allowed at the beaches sunday. and in new jersey... a community -- outside albuquerque, new mexico -- is heartbroken tonight. police -- are crying next to a memorial -- for one of their own -- shot in the line of duty. friday morning -- officer clint corvinus -- and his partner -- came across joseph moreno -- during a routine patrol. moreno is known to local cops -- with three active warrants for his arrest.

one of those bullets -- hit officer corvinus. susan pietsch witness "it's a scary thing especially when it happens right in your backyard" corvinus died at a local hospital. he was a four-year veteran. he leaves behind an eight-year-old daugter. the new mexico governor -- releasing a statement saying -- "the violence against our police officers has to end." in new jersey -- a cop fights for his life -- after an early- morning shootout. one of the suspects is dead. and now -- a manhunt is underway. investigators say -- two officers stopped a group of m atlantic city. the men opened fire on the cops....and police shot back. one of the gunmen was killed. five other suspects took off.. two california officers are in critical condition after being shot by a visitor at the fresno county jail. the suspect tried to skip to the front of the visitor line to see an inmate. when confronted by a correctional officer, the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and started shooting. police say the alleged gunman

police in the philippines say they have a sketch of one of the suspects in an attack that killed 14 people. the country's president has authorized police and the military to search cars and frisk people at checkpoints. but says martial law has not been declared. he visited some of the wounded at a hospital earlier today. thousands of anti-brexit protesters --take to the streets of london -- and other british cities today. this -- just two days before parliament -- comes back from its summer recess. prime minister -- theresa may -- has not yet invoked article that would start the process of leaving the european union. it will take at least two years -- for the u-k to officially -- break- off from the e-u. an estimated 30-thousand kurds in cologne, germany took part in a protest today against the turkish government's policies. germany is home to about three million people of turkish origin -- roughly one in four are ethnic kurds. the world's top carbon producers -- china and the u-s.. officially signed on to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

tonight -- a 27-year-old cold case -- is one step closer to being solved. police say -- they found the remains -- of eleven-year old jacob wetterling. he's a minnesota boy -- kidnapped in 1989. no one has been arrested. but -- police have named a person of interest. in pakistan -- they're calling the search -- for two mountain climbers from utah -- for now. -- two-world-class climbers -- last scene nearly two weeks ago -- trying to scale one of pakistan's highest mountains. a local -- spotting their lights -- about halfway up the mountain. but the next day -- a snow storm hit -- and hasn't let up. jonathan thesenga/family spokesperson they don't have gps with them. we have no idea where they're at on the mountain. the family spokesperson says -- helicopters will resume the search -- when the weather imiproves. but -- that won't be for another ten days. there

-- to pay for the search rescue. so far -- it's raised more than 193-thousand dollars. on flordia's east coast -- authorities are investigating a deadly plane crash. the cessna-172 -- plunging into the ocean this morning -- near fort lauderdale -- killing two people. the national transportation safety board is investigating. a vermont woman is facing fraud charges afer police say she falsely collected money for a fallen firefighter. police say 31-year-old krystle holmes was asking for cash justin beebe he is the vermont firefighter who died last month while battling a wildfire in great basin national park...just south of ely. beebe died after succumbing to injuries from a tree falling on top of him. firefighters are hoping cooler temperatures will help them get more control of a wildfire burning in western montana. the so-called rattlesnake fire has scorched almost a thousand acres. lightning sparked the fire on thursday. at this hour.. it's only about ten percent
