this is all happening right now in the area of lake las vegas. 13 action news anchor christopher king is there live with some more dramatic video. christopher. the fire is still going strong. take a look. you can see the orange glow of the flames and the grey smoke billowing up behind me. this is a trash fire, in a ravine, near lake las vegas. we spoke with a young guy lives nearby. here's what he had to say. ghosts and goblins tonight so the kids could get a jumpstart on their trick or treating. metro hosted a "trunk or treat" event.. complete with bounce houses.. games and plenty of other things for kids to do while they collected candy in a safe environment. it provides a really good atmosphere and a lot of places they can go play. it feels a ton safer. our neighborhood specifically has a lot of streets where people turn the corner real fast. that's a little dangerous. but here it's real safe, i feel real safe. and i'm glad to take my kids here. this is one of several events hosted by metro leadin you can find a full list of things to do for halloween on our website.. ktnv.com. we're continuing to monitor that fire burning right now near lake las vegas. valley parents we spoke with agree, and say they're taking every precaution. rey herrera/dad: i do follow her on instagram, and i'm engaged with her on facebook as well. michele brown/mom: i'm on her phone continually throughout the day looking at what she's doing. one local dad says, he kicked his son off social media all together, after discovering inappropriate postings from followers. kurt ouchida/dad: so when there was an instagram incident, we cracked down on it pretty quickly. as one mom put it, you've got to be actively involved, so you know who your kid is invi carolyn mahler: if i'm in the room, then i have the opportunity to say; you're out. you're out, you're okay. you're out. you get to stay, you don't. and that's how i view my interaction with him and his social media. i need to be in the room. i need to be on these apps. so what can you do to proect your kids? start by talking to them. follow their accounts, and monitor what they and their friends are posting.
