tv   Morning Blend  ABC  November 7, 2016 9:00am-10:00am PST

9:00 am
yes, monday morning. taking a live look outside right now at t mobile arena. for a limited time, the strip is getting aen all new cirque de soleil show. preview of the "avatar" production in just moments. is it and i have ears from taruq. i'm excited. they're over there. >> i was confused. >> it's all based on the "avatar" movie. >> i never saw "avatar." i know. i'm the only one. it was one of the most popular movies of all time. i have not seen "avatar." >> i remember coming to tears in that movie. i saw it in the theater. >> you have to watch it in imax and i missed it. i feel like i watch it now, i'll miss something. >> it's a beautiful message.
9:01 am
supposedly. >> oh, wow. >> if there is, then we can all be using that one. hi, i'm shawn tempesta. welcome. >> good morning, everybody. happy monday. i'm j.j. snyder. >> how was your extra hour of sleep? >> it was awesome. i appreciated it. i set my clocks back okay. so i wasn't mistaken for what time it was. however, last night i woke up in the middle of the night thinking it was morning. >> i woke up last night at around 3:45 in the >> shoot. >> we could have called each other. how is it going over there? you, too? yeah. i just went to the bathroom. >> now i need to water. is that your ritual? >> i don't get the water. i'm up, i might as well go to the bathroom. so we have a topic for today. >> we do. >> it's apropo because i'm about to have a kid in about two weeks. not me.
9:02 am
>> i lost weight, but i still look like it. >> that's excellent. good for you. and you got a hair cut. >> maybe that's where i lost the pounds. >> oh, wow. >> a yale professor by the name -- >> he's an anthropology professor, richard, bribieskas. >> either way. an interesting topic. he launched a study. and results from the study where he said that women prefer men, especially in terms of who they're married to, to be a little bit on the chubby side. [ laughter ] okay. so please expand upon that. >> expanding upon that for 32. >> he calls it the dad body. >> i -- the first thing i heard when i heard this guy did this story was like okay. i'm searching google images. and see if this guy has a dad
9:03 am
like one of the pictures it seems like he's hiking. good for him. all right. that's gone. but it says that if you have lower testosterone, a little less muscle, a little more fat. a little, not a lot, hey, you're allowed to be 392 pounds. it's a little. slight. weight gain that you might live longer. or you might have a strengthened immune system. >> light above the middle. not what i have, not 30, 40 pounds over. but the five pounds over slight. slight. >> yes. this is true. now, the reason why this is more appealing to women, they say, is that a wife, a woman, a woman raising children, wants her husband to be centered around the children and the family. not out chasing women. [ laughter ] >> so five pounds is gonna be enough to -- >> no. there is a point there. that once you're married, now,
9:04 am
looker for the most muscular guy, because biology says that's the man i want to mate with. once you got him, you want him to stick around. >> you are the? anthony wiener. the guy has a rippling six pack. >> no, no. no. anthony wiener is not allowed in this conversation. [ laughter ] >> i'm just saying that if he had a dad body, perhaps he would have just been too lazy and stayed home watching tv. >> perhaps anthony should gain 4.4 pounds, which is the average will gain. on average. >> is that the sympathy weight? >> 'cause you're eating chicken nuggets that you cook your kid a lot. >> that's the thing. if you gain a little extra weight, he might not have -- >> listen. >> just out of arm's reach. i'll text it later. >> i'm afraid it's going to take more than 4.4 pounds to help that guy.
9:05 am
don't want a man who is so vein and so into himself because -- but you know. you know if your man is chasing other ladies. you know. >> how do you know? i'd love to know how. >> because they show you 100 times a day. yeah. >> how? >> trust me. in their behavior. you're not one of those men. i can tell you. >> what's the tell? >> oh, because they're always interested -- it's like their hungry for female attention. outside of you, yeah. conversation. >> i also think that there is another side to this and that is that it would be a really insecure woman to not want her husband to be in the best shape that he could be. >> of course. >> yes. >> 4.4 pounds. >> 45.5 pounds? no. five. we want to hear from you about this. dad body, do you have a dad body, do you like one? facebook and twitter pages.
9:06 am
we could read some of your comments on the air. soar to go a world of pandora with farouk, the first performance for one week only. >> here with more about the epic tale inspired by james cameron has "avatar" is christian sanchez who is an acrobat in the production. good morning. >> good morning. >> not a dad body. >> you never know. >> i have to talk aboutho exciting it is to have one of these traveling cirque de soleil shows coming to our town because i know these end up in a lot of different markets. now we have the venue for it. tell bus this production. >> it's a brand-new production. we've been touring for close to a year now actually. >> wow. >> yeah. thank you. and it's inspired from the james cameron movie "avatar," which blew up at the box office. and it's basically about three kids that are on a quest to save
9:07 am
of souls. and kids will be kids, of course. so they get into some trouble along the way. there you have it. that's part of the story. i don't want to give too much away. obviously we want guests to come and enjoy the show. >> you imagine -- 'cause obviously we're very spoiled here in las vegas. >> absolutely. >> you try to imagine how cirque de soleil going to be able to do a traveling show. the production quality is second to none. >> absolutely. i agree. there is so much that goes into just the lighting and the technical aspects of the show. and we have a technical crew that they work countless hours to make sure that everything is working correctly and that we can perform and put on a show for guests every single day. >> and you just came from performing in california last week. >> that's correct. >> and what will it be like to step into the t mobile? you're performing for an audience of thousands. >> yes. absolutely. i mean, it's gonna be a great experience either way. whether it's 100 or 1,000 or
9:08 am
venue. so i know they've been constructing that entire area and it's up and coming and it looks beautiful. so it's gonna be a great experience. we're all very excited to be in vegas and for me, this is home. i'm more than excited to be here. >> awesome. you live in vegas? >> i'm a vegas local. >> no pressure. you're the first cirque de soleil to take on t mobile. >> right. >> no pressure. [ laughter ] you were born and raised in vegas? >> no. i was born in new york, but raised in orlando, florida. >> obviously being here -- in orlando as well where cirque de soleil shows make their way there often. you have been surrounded bid cirque de soleil a lot of your life. what was it driving force that brought you in? >> actually i grew up dancing and just break dancing and hip-hop. >> cool. >> thank you. because break dancing is similar to acrobatic and circus.
9:09 am
i had a lot of my friends that were gymnasts that kind of taught me a few things in orlando. from there it's just growing up around that community. it's a great experience. it's something fun to have around you constantly. here i am today. >> and being an acrobat every night must be so demanding. so you got your start -- can you moon walk? [ laughter ] >> i can do a little bit of a moon walk. >> can you show us? >> i could try my best. going to move you over to michael jackson. >> we have to be careful! >> this is my best moon walk. >> okay. >> that's not terrible. that's good. and here is the thing with michael jackson, he had like the loafers on. >> he's one of the best entertainers of all. >> it's a lot easier than boots. i remember when michael jackson passed away, i made it my point to learn how to moon walk. and i was able to pull it off
9:10 am
>> come on, come on. >> it's disgust. >> you have some pretty cool socks on. how much warm-up do you do every night? you have an incredibly physically demanding part to play in this production. >> yes, absolutely. well, me personally, i like to get to the arena just a few hours before the show starts just because then i can start preparing doing make-up and doing warm-up and stuff. my warm-up usually consists of half an hour to an hour. and you just work your way >> that's the warm up? >> that's the warm-up, exactly. >> how long is the show? >> the show in two parts, two 50 minutes and then an intermission. >> wow. enjoy the ice packs afterwards. if you want to get tickets, this is only here for weeks. >> absolutely. get tickets at the cirque de soleil.com web site. >> very cool. it really is an awesome opportunity to see a different cirque de soleil. i know you have so many productions throughout the world t. have one roll in for a brief

cool. it's a great opportunity to see it. thank you so much. >> thank you so much for having me. i appreciate that. >> toruk hits the arena. tickets start at $39 and can be purchased by visiting the web site on your screen. >> satisfy your appetite and help a great cause. >> go nowhere. you are watching the "morning blend" over 20,000 nevadans rely on planned parenthood

9:12 am
but congressman heck voted to defund planned parenthood and was willing to shut down the government over it. heck opposed roe v. wade and voted to criminalize abortion. congressman heck is what's wrong with washington.
9:13 am
welcome back to the blend. all right. so you're eating right, you're staying active. but for some reason you're not dropping the weight. you ever wonder what's stopping you? our very next guest may have that answer. >> now more on how to get awe total transformation. possibly losely to seven pounds in a week with no hunger, no
9:14 am
what? what are you talk being? craziness. how are you? >> i'm good, how are you doing? >> wonderful. so we talked the last time you were here all about the metabolic weight loss program and we talked about your weight loss. we talked a little bit about your initial weight loss. >> right. so i struggle with my weight since i was eight years old. i was always on a diet. every die i would do i would lose it, but i would always gain it back as soon as i stopped doing the program, whatever the program happened to so i dieted o to a top weight of 230 pounds, that's size 22 right there. i was practicing doctor at the time. cream is my color. [ laughter ] wow. >> i like these cream. and then in 2009, what i was noticing is that everybody was struggling with these issues. it wasn't just isolated people or a minority, like the entire country was struggling with it. so we started researching that
9:15 am
factors that if you don't address them, your weight loss will always be difficult. it will be temporary. you'll be hungry, craving. and 95% of us gain it back in a year. so when i did that, when i applied those factors to myself, i lost 80 pounds, that was seven years ago. it was in 2009. i've kept it off ever since. so now i do the same thing for my clients. >> that's fantastic. i know there is one topic in particular that you want to focus on today. >> yeah. >> figured out how people lose figure it outside. it's what's keeping the weight out. >> one of the metabolic factor social security toxicity. a toxin is a specific that bothers people is candida. so the candida toxin is a yeast. it can affect men and women. and it can cause an average weight gain of 32 pounds per year. just that one toxin. >> wow. women certainly are familiar with the topic of candida.
9:16 am
in your entire system. >> it gets into your fat cells, your liver, into all of the cells of the body. yeah. so the problem is when you start developing a candida overgrowth, you start experiencing symptoms that will indicate to you that you have it. one of them would be like hard carbohydrate craveds. another one is like -- >> boy, i got that. >> rapid weight gain, difficulty losing weight. feeling chronically fatigued or worn down. a really strong craving for sugar and refined carbohydrates because that's wt feeds on. >> so then what exactly causes this in the first place? >> a couple things can cause it. one of the biggest contributors that cause it in our country is our diet. so our diets are high in sugar and refined carbohydrates. that causes it. >> and often the stuff you eat you don't think has sugar. but it has so much sugar. >> right. there are certain, like tomato sauces that you put on your pasta has 12 grams of sugar in a serving, which is crazy. it's half your day's serving. >> wow. >> yeah. >> so 12 is about half?
9:17 am
is what the world health organization recommends you have and that's why he's laughing like that. >> 'cause i know there is some sodas that go over that. >> easy. there is healthy organic cold pressed juices that have three days worth of sugar in them. >> but it's not added sugar. yeah. but sugar is sugar, is sugar. if you pull the fiber out, it's jet lining right into your butt and thighs, unfortunately. >> we've just gotten so out of touch with -- >> we really have. >> natural >> with how we're supposed to eat, serving sizes. what's actually in our food. it's really complicated. it shouldn't be that complicated to regulate your weight. it really shouldn't. >> there is a home test people can do. a very simple way to test. >> how much does this test cost? >> yeah. so you could go to your doctor and you could pay $250 for a whole panel of tests to see if you have candida or you can do dr. nash's simple home test for free.
9:18 am
water. first thing in the water, that's a positive test for candida. first thing before they eat or drink anything -- >> i don't mean to be rude, you don't want to brush your teeth either? >> right. you just get a clear glass of water like that and you're going to spit in it. the saliva will you'll see it spiraling down. that let's you know you're positive. >> how do you become negative for candida? >> the first thing you want to do is candida protocol to purge yourself from the toxin. it's particularly resistance. in my office, one of the things we offer in addition to our metabolic program to help people lose weight is we'll combine it with a protocol specifically addressed to get rid of that candida. >> awesome. >> and you have a special today for people who might be watching.
9:19 am

sandwich shop and the rescue mission have joined forces to feed people in need across the valley. here is the deal. each time you eat a sandwich at the shop, they will be making a donation supporting the las vegas rescue mission. >> perfect! i love it! here to explain how it all works is the ceo of the sandwich shop, john fogel. great having both of you. how are you? >> fantastic. >> how is this working? >> we partnered with the rescue mission several times. every year we want to try to step up our partnership and do more for the community. so the idea this year is through the month of november, specifically through the 23rd. every time you come in, you order a sandwich. we're gonna feed someone in need in the valley. >> fantastic. >> it's a beautiful thing. how did you first come together and died to do this? >> peace been a partnership that's now several years.

heart to serve the local community and give back. so for several years we've had a chance to work together with food drives and donation drives and different promotions like this. and of course, november and thanksgiving, when our communities already thinking how can we give back to help lead the way and give the opportunity for people to participate, just a great way for to us celebrate thanksgiving, but also give back and help those in need. >> tell bus all the great stuff you're doing. >> you know, ever this time of year, but 365 days a year, we have the opportunity to help those that are most in need. so we serve over 1,000 hot meals every day to those in need. we provide over 300 beds for those who might otherwise not have someplace to go. basic everyday things like clothing, shoes, things like that, as well as a long-term addiction recovery program, helping people get back on their feet, get off the street and rebuild their lives.
9:32 am
it's great having community partners that makes it p. we can't do it without our community. not only businesses, but individuals and families throughout make it possible. >> john, the holidays are coming up here. this is a time of particular need at the mission. >> absolutely. we see probably the most traffic and people who are in need, this is a time of year where it means the most to have somebody to provide a place for them to go, to care for them, to give a sense of family and community during the holidays is a big >> absolutely. so many ways to give back. >> it's a perfect -- you come in. -- you eat, you're helping someone else eat. >> it's a beautiful thing. >> let's talk about -- we know that you have a lot of great stuff. >> we brought a platter. >> this is a large amount of bobby. this is for thursday the sandwich of the month.
9:33 am
mentioned a lot online 'cause i looked at your reviews and people are like the bobby, the bobby. tell us about the bobby. >> so the bobby is our home made turkey. really the difference between us is that we roast our turkeys in house every night. so for 12 hours a night before, we slow roast real burt ball turkey. so you're eating nothing processed or preserved inside of the store. we home make this stuff not guilty house and put cranberry sauce and a little mayo. essentially it's thanking thanksgiving on a roll, but everything was freshly made inside the store that could be. >> that changes everything. >> it does. >> and i should go to you for turkey baking tips then. >> i have a few. >> you're doing it every day. i've actually had a bobby for thanksgiving once. every flavor is there. there is not a flavor that's misting. it's fantastic. it's not just the bobby. you have other ones. i always go for the steak and
9:34 am
the wise potato chips. you're so on point. tell us what else you have. >> you want to know something really cool about the bobby is in addition to what we're doing with the rescue mission in novotny, for the first time in the history of the company for 40 years, you can now go in and add gravy. so you can actually order a cup of gravy, which will turn your bobby hot and you can have a gravy bobby which i have eaten two times and as much as i love the bobby, the gravy even better. it's incredible. so you just walk in and just say i'd like to add gravy. and boom, you have a cup of gravy. it's not for on the sandwich. this like a real au jaus. >> don't wear anything you like. it will be messy. >> bring a bib. totally worth it. >> all i'm thinking about right now is food. eating. john, what's your favorite
9:35 am
wouldn't ask. november my favorite is the bobby. i have to say that. but capastrami,s cheat steak, cold turkey, all of them. and although you can tell i'm not really a big salad guy, but i've now started doing the sandwich and the salad as well, making that a lunch, which is great. >> my wife eats salad. when i'm in the mood for the loves it. >> i taught john a couple of secret menu items. >> there are secret menu items? >> there is. >> can we -- >> tell us one secret? >> come on. >> those are my favorite sandwiches. but because of the word secret, i couldn't say it out loud. >> he's going to give us one. >> one secret. one. okay. go in and you order a chicken
9:36 am
marinara and chicken. >> you should put it on the menu. call it the chicken paisan. >> i love it! >> trademark it. >> i like it. >> do i owe you any royalty if die that? >> absolutely not. >> perfect. >> okay. there is the large. i've gotten >> is that healthy? >> no, no. that's regular? >> that's a medium. >> that's like six days of food. >> jumbo two mediums i'm pretty sure. >> 20 inches. >> it's obscene. >> gentlemen, great having you. >> thank you. >> a great way to give back. now through november 23, pay it forward and visit any of the 34 sandwich shop locations. their web site on your screen. if you would like learn more

helping set up fake charities used to scam nevada seniors, failing to pay thousands in property taxes, losing $17 million in a failed development scheme, then sticking taxpayers with the bill -- imagine the shenanigans tarkanian would pull in washington. it's why we can't afford tarkanian in congress, ever.
9:39 am
welcome back to the blend. find relief for pain. our next guest can pinpoint the source so you can start living life fully again. dr. devin luzod is back with spinal care of nevada. great having you again.
9:40 am
>> the nucca method, explain it. >> it's more gentle chiropractic. some people are afraid to go to the chiropractor. they've had a bad experience because they don't want to get twisted, cracked, popped. the nucca method is very gentle. rather than seeing people every day, we have a set program that gets people better, teach you how to take care of yourself down the road so you're not relying on a doctor. >> we have a video that shows how you're able to pinpoint the location of pain. >> if you figure this brain sits at t t of us have one. our spouses may argue with that. the brain sends a nerve down the spine. the nerves come out. they run to every muscle, cell and organ in your body. bone out of place maybe from a fall, accident, sports, you name it, what it does is pinches a nerve. that can cause pain. numbness, burning, tingling. weakness anywhere throughout the body. so my job is to find where in the body the bone is out of place, very gently fix it so the body can fix itself.
9:41 am
think headaches, migraines. those nerves run to the sinuses, cause headache pain, sinus problems, allergies. middle of the neck, that's thyroid, weight gain, sometimes too much weight loss, nerves run down to the hands, consumer tunnel. so people get their hands cut on, a lot of times the problem comes from a misalignment in the neck. here, runs to the heart, lungs. this adjustment, the nucca chiropractor organization studied high blood pressure. the adjust can lower two medications. i don't claim to cure really anything. blood pressure. but when you get the pressure off the nerve for the first time in a long time, the body can fix itself. as we get towards the middle of the body, these nerves control the stomach. stomach is indigestion, heartburn, ulcers. those nerves also run to the pancreas, which is diabetes, immune function, getting sick all the time, your kids, you. also when the body attacks itself, like rheumatoid. here at the bottom, these
9:42 am
which is constipation, die real estate, messy conversation. and again, i don't claim to cure that. but when you are get the pressure off the nerve, the body can fix it. that's male organs, female organs, prostate, menopause, painful cycles. hot flashes and all the other joys that go along with that. those nerves at the bottom, that's also sciatica, burning into the buttocks, into the knees. even bottom of the feet, which is neuropathy. so what we have is a very gentle adjustment to get the off of the nerves and that way sometimes symptoms that people dealt with their whole life, chronic pain, nerve pain, pinching, numbness, burning, tingling. you can fix it without getting shots or cut on. >> you're getting rid of essentially the traffic jam so everything is working at the best. >> you have the best analogies in the world. >> for people to have it, they figure i have to live with this the rest of their life. >> or a doctor tells them take this drug or pill. what happens it might feel better for a little while. until the problem gets so bad
9:43 am
so these days, about 10% of my practice actually comes in for maintenance. they don't really have pain. you get a signal of pain or a symptom, that's the time to come in and get looked at. >> low level laser therapy is something you utilize as well. i know it's really a healing fact. >> so there is two things we do very well. one is the very gentle chiropractor adjustment that gets results where other things have failed. the second is we apply a cold or low lays level laser therapy to a problem area and the idea is you get more circulation there. so think arthritis, bad joints, shoulder, wrist, knee, hips, more circulation to that area. you don't get the joint back, but it feels better and the decay slows down. so once again, you have quality life you and don't have to go get cut on our go under the knife. >> people are feeling a pain in their neck or really anywhere else, how do they get in touch with you? >> remember, sometimes the pain in your neck is someone else's pain in the neck.
9:44 am
