our area. without these improvements, we are facing a very tough slate, and that slate will be carried by all of the children in our community." tonight the committee will discuss which tax increases would place the smallest burden on citizens... and which are most likely to pass. they say right now-- they are looking at sales taxes as most favorable... since about 30 percent of those are paid by visitors. but they're also considering increasing property taxes by a few cents. tax increases are never popular... especially in nevada. but this committee is hopeful that voters will see the need... and vote yes. shaun: "we are asking people to look at the merits of the question, and decide whether to invest in schools, or if you can live with the consequences of a no vote." the meeting starts tonight at 6... and it is open to the public. but we wilalso bring you a full wrap-up tonight at 11. covering the story live, arianna bennett, channel 2 news. the marinello school of beauty

along with 55 other schools in the country today. this announcement comes three days after the u-s department of education pulled federal student aid from marinello because of alleged serious violations. amanda ketchledge is live at the reno location with the latest details on this closure. amanda-- landon-- within this last day, students and teachers have been packing up their belongings at the beauty school. last night students received the news that classes would be ending...and according to one student, some of them didn't take it so well. stephanie davidson, student: "it's devastating on many levels. one not just on the money, the aspect that i knew that one day i would graduate and leave that school. but i always thought that i would have my instructors to go home to. and there's no home now. so we're all kind of lost." stephanie davidson is one of 43-hundred students nationwide trying to figure out her options. the nevada state board of cosmetology is assessing students individually to see whether they can transfer or

know because we don't have the order...so it's a problem." to avoid problems....always make sure you're dealing with who you think you are dealing with. we'll have more on this story for you on channel 2 news at 6:30. after getting several tips from the reno police and fire department, the city of reno held a safety inspection for one motel in downtown reno this morning. we were able to tag along for the inspection and what we saw was eye opening. angela schilling joins us live in the newsroom with more. angela? kristen, we were able to get a wide view of some of the rooms as well as see what the inspection process looks like. it took a few hours to do a thorough job and then get the results. the inspection is a part of the blight initiative in reno. "this is what i have to cook on." broadway: "just because you're living on a fixed budget does not mean that you can't live in a safe and healthy environment." door knocking after reno police received a

other suspicious activity at the motel... the city decided to come back and take a closer look around the building. broadway: "they saw people cooking in the hallway on hot plates, they did see insects crawling around and also rodents in the hotel." now reno police and fire, as well as other city officials are going door to door at the reno legacy motel doing safety inspections. and it's not only the motel's residents they're worried about. broadway: "this hotel is connected to numerous businesses that actually have people living in some of the apartments, above these businesses." so a fire would be a big concern. broadway: "working with all the city agencies, reno fire department, reno police department, and code enforcement to make sure that this is a livable place and safe place for people to stay." we got the results from the inspection thursday afternoon. broadway: "usually it's a thirty day process. after they do get a violation but also depends on severity of violation. if it's a safely issue, fire issue, the fire department can close the motel down."
