many said they were still debating their choices as they arrived. the presidential candidates were out in force today, making their last-minute pitch to voters at diners and polling sites. we'll have a live report from new hampshire coming up in about 15 minutes. preparations are also underway this month.. that's right...both parties are training in the days leading up to the democratic and republican caucuses. amanda ketchledge is live at the washoe county democratic party headquarters for their mock caucus. amanda, why are these training sessions so important? kristen-- both parties tell us is that the caucuses are one way for nevadas to show who they want to see on the november ballot. so here at the washoe dems, people are training for the real thing coming up in less than two weeks. pam dupre, washoe county democratic party: "people just come in, they decide, okay who do i want to caucus for at this

what they call their preference groups. if someone's undecided, they get to stand in another area of the room. then something called viability." on caucus day, voters will head to their nearest caucus site where they will meet other members of their vote. for those wanting to participate, you must be party. democrats have same day registration, while the republicans require voters to register by february 13th. both parties also have different styles for their caucuses. adam khan, chairman washoe county republican party: "ours is you go in there, you talk, and try to persuade your neighbors, you try to persuade them. and then you make a secret ballot. so no one actually knows what your choice is. now if there's only two people in your precinct, of course you know what the other person voted. but we like to keep that to ensure there's no voter intimidation." to find out how you can get involved with the democrats or republicans for caucus training, just head to our website and

"acting in community together in organizing northern nevada" -- or actionn -- says sanders will attend its "real solutions to real problems" summit at the university of nevada's jot travis buidling starting at 8:30 a-m saturday. organizers say the event is almost full - but they still have a few spots open. and republican presidential candidate carly fiorina will be visting northern nevada next week. fiorina will be speaking at the 2nd flood ballroom of the atlantis - a week from tomorrow - for an event being organized

at this point, the next chance of precipitation doesn't come along until mid to late next week. in crime beat... lockdowns were issued for three schools in stead for a few hours today -- while police searched for someone suspected of stealing a vehicle in the area. police tried to stop the vehicle near stead boulevard late this morning, but the driver took off. officers eventually found the vehicle near mt. baldy, but the suspect had already left the scene... police with the help of raven helicopter searched for him but called off the search after 1 p- m. investigators have not released a description of the suspect. if you know anything that can help police... call or text secret witness. and the washoe county school district says a handgun was confiscated on the spanish springs high school campus

the school's prinicpal sent out a voicemail alerting parents about what happened and saying police are still investigating. she also encouraged parents and students to report suspicious activity to school secret witness at 3-2-9 66-66. and reno police say they have arrested a woman in connection with a robbery at a convenience store in stead on sunday. police say around 2-30 in the morning... a woman demanded money from the clerk at the jacksons store on stead boulevard, showing the clerk a gun in her waistband. she left the scene in a silver 4-door passenger car. detectives say they located the vehicle in stead and detained the driver. she was identified as 18-year-old kassandra portillo. she admitted to the sunday robbery and was charged with robbery with a deadly weapon. the district attorney's office is warning people about a scam - involving someone claiming to be an actual d-a investigator... and requesting payments for fees

the d-a's ofice does not charge people for services related to court appearances... and does not call asking for money. looking around the world... at least 10 people have been killed and dozens of others injured when two trains collided head on in germany this morning. germany's transportation minister says the two the trains were on a curve and neither had time to break before the crash. they were traveling at speeds of up to 60 miles and hour. the track was fitted with a safety system designed to automatically stop trains to prevent such a crash and it's not clear why it didn't function. in health watch... as the zika virus outbreak continues, concerns are growing. president obama is asking congress for nearly two billion dollars to fight the zika virus. as john potter reports, officials warn it could spread here in the united states. the centers for disease control

operations center is functioning at its highest alert level in the fight against the zika virus. schuchat: "we are working 24-7 to understand this virus. time is really precious for this kind of emerging infection." most zika is spread by the aedes aegypti mosquito -- which in the u-s is seen primarily in southern states. at least 57 cases of zika have been reported in the u-s... in 12 states and the district of columbia. spraying the virus is spreading rapidly through latin america... nats: crying and its connection to the birth defect microcephaly has led to warnings and travel restrictions for pregnant women. furuya: "any illness that's mosquito borne that people might get overseas might then be brought back to the united states." doctor yoko furuya says there's one simple way to fight mosquito-borne illnesses: furuya: "mosquito repellents are a good way to try to avoid it." consumer reports recently tested 15 insect repellents now on the market. testers stuck their arms

northern nevadans can now support the city of reno's parks and recreation by ordering a new specialty license plate from the d- m-v. the reno city council approved the reno specific license plate design early last year. ryan canaday joins us live in the newsroom. ryan, we understand the plates will benefit charity... where exactly does the funding go? well guys, these plates will support the enhancement of parks, recreation, facilities and programs in the city of reno. officials with the city are hopeful that people will register with these plates.. to support the cause. andy bass- director of parks and recreation- "it's critical for us that we can start to catch up and look at the projects that have been delayed for many years just due to the lack of resources, we're hopeful that we earned from the license plate to directly impact the public. the city tells us a minimum number of one thousand

in money watch tonight... it's hard not to notice... those low prices at the pump. prices across the country... and here at home... are hitting lows we haven't seen in more than a decade. arianna bennett joins us now live with a look... ari? gas prices are the lowest we've seen since 2004... and a lot of that has to do with a major increase in domestic oil production. there's more american oil on the

years... and it's causing a price drop all around the world... and around the nation. on the low end-- we have parts of oklahoma... missouri... and indiana... between $1.22 and $1.26 on the higher end-- arizona... alaska... and california... between 2.99 and 3.14 a gallon. in case you're wondering-- nevada's average now is $2.18 a gallon. and that's great news... for local drivers. jorge: "it's actually made it pretty helpful-- saving me quite a bit of money now." jim: "a truck this size, that's about a $15 a tank difference, so it's a huge difference for me." at this gas station in carson city prices were well under two dollars a gallon today... you may notice prices are higher in washoe county... that is because of different taxes charged on gas. and federal officials predict that we could see prices below two dollars a gallon for all of 2016.
