-- and another mile to the south. and as you can see -- there's been a lot of changes here the past few months. trucks, excavator, dozer it might not look like it -- but someday, this chunk of land on the rosewood lakes golf course will have a bridge on it. one of five on phase two of the southeast connector. garth "the power poles that you see off in the distance, that's on the left side of the roadway or the eastside of the roadway. so, we're just going to follow on through here, going fairway to fairway, trying to avoid as many of the wetlands as possible." that roadway is starting to take shape on a two-mile stretch between clean water way and mira loma drive. oksol says the entire road will open in late 20-17. garth "a lot of earth work, a lot of environmental care is being done and then we do have two winters within that time period, that obviously, we have to slow down a little bit for what we're doing with construction." up to 250 people will work on the southeast connector during the summer months. right now -- the crew is down to about a hundred on a daily basis. garth "obviously, when there's

lot of moisture, we've got to change our operations a little bit, but the nice thing is that we're still able to do construction throughout the winter time and that's just helping keep people employed." the project is expected to improve water flow and quality in the steamboat creek -- and create an 80-acre wetland complex. crews have already removed nearly 470 million pounds of invasive weeds and infested soil -- and 3.8 million pounds of trash. garth "that was anything from old box spring mattresses, car parts, barrels of stuff, just a tremendous amount of trash was out here, laying underneath the weeds that people may not see from the road." the project also includes a 10- foot-wide multi-use path -- but oksol says the new six-lane road will have the biggest impact on traffic. garth "it's going to really greatly alleviate congestion, not only that we have today on a lot of the arterial roadways that we have down in south reno, but also to help get traffic out of sparks." the public can learn more about the project at an open house. it's at the best western airport plaza hotel, this thursday from 11 to 7.
