stadium. ktvu channel news starts with breaking news. >> breaking news on the plane crash in eastern ukraine involving a malaysia airlines commercial flight. here is what we know so far -- an adviser to ukraine's interior minister says the plane was shot down over a town in the eastern part of the country. there were reportedly 295 people on board, including 15 crew members. the interior ministers also say that 23 u.s. citizens were aboard the plane but the state department has not yet confirmed that. good afternoon, i'm tori campbell. ktvu's mike mibach joins us with the latest developments that keep coming in on this breaking story. >> yeah, tori. ukrainian officials say the crew of flight 17 did not report any problems during the flight. let's blow up a map of the region. the airline said it lost contact with the 777 about 30 miles from the russian/ukraine border. a government official said the plane was flying at about

32,000 feet when it was shot down by a surface-to-air missile. spoking debris can be scene at the wreckage site located in the field in eastern ukraine. that debris field is ten miles wide. the ukrainian president says he could not confirm the president was shot down but he says it's not being ruled out. no world if it's an act of terror or a mistake. no individual or group has taken responsibility for breaking down the airline. this comes at a time when tensions between russia and the ukraine continue to be heated. this week, ukrainian officials said a russian jet shut down a plane while in ukrainian airport space. the u.s. embassy in kiev is in close contact with ukrainian officials. within the last 45 minute, president obama at an event in delaware addressed the crash of malaysian airlines flight 17.

that happened in core da corte madera. both men are in their 70s. it happened near paradise drive and robin drive. two men got into some kind of argument. one man followed another man back to his house and drove up to the other man's driveway. the homeowner lowered the garage door onto the car and police say the homeowner shot at the other man. police say the victim survived. we don't know yet if the homeowner faces any charges. we have a grew on the way and more on this story tonight at 5:00. [ sound of gunfire ] new details from stockton police this morning about yesterday's bank robbery that sparked a high-speed chase and shootout which ended in the deaths of two suspected bank robbers and one innocent bank customer. ktvu's katie utehs just learned new information and joins us live from stockton.

good afternoon, katie. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. you heard the gunshots. i asked the chief how many officers returned fire. he estimates that it was at least 20. those men and women are now on paid administrative leave during the investigation but the chief says the city will not be left uncovered. now, the amount of shots fired is daunting. they are still trying to determine who shot and killed the hostage that was killed and found dead in the suv at the end of the chase. >> the suspects continued firing at officers who returned fire until the gunfire from the suspects stopped. [ sirens ] >> reporter: we learned some key details during the 11:00 press conference with the chief. mere minutes passed before the robbers took the three female hostages. two bank employees and one customer in one of the bank employee's suv. those employees both fell or jumped from the speeding vehicle with gunshot wounds. they will survive. family tell us the woman killed

is misty holt-singh, a mother of two, simply trying to withdraw cash from the bank of the west on thornton road. police say the surviving suspect, 19-year-old jaime ramos likely used her as a human shield during the pursuit. police say the other men, a 30- year-old and 27-year-old both known gang members tried to kill officers, slowing down to wait for them. >> he saw the suspect vehicle take the exit and stop and lie in wait while one of the suspects pointed and a rifle pointed it at at officers who we believe were about to be ambushed. >> reporter: the chief says 14 police vehicles were struck by bullets, including their armored car, which a bullet hit the tire and disarmed that vehicle. ramos's first court appearance is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. we're following the story and we'll have much more details n tonight's newscast. live in stockton, katie utehs, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. one of the key elements investigators will need to figure out who shot and killed

the hostage in that exchange of gunfire. misty holt-singh was a mother of two. investigators say she she may have been used by the suspect as a human shield during the shootout. holt-singh was at the beige making an atm withdrawal while her daughter waited in the car. her daughter texted her dad when she saw her mother being taken. >> and a third text came over. they took mom. she was crying. she said dad, the bank got robbed. she was inside. they took mom. i go, are you okay? she said yeah, i'm with the police. but i have to get off the phone. they are gonna call you back. just come. and then i left. >> that interview was done before he knew that his wife was killed in the shootout. we just checked misty's facebook page and several messages of condolences have been left for the family. our coverage continues at ktvu.com. that's where you can see the news conference as well as

photos of the damage caused by the shootout and video of newschopper2 over the scene. the mother accused of attacking a young boy who she claimed was bullying her daughter was in court today. sal castanedo joins us live to let us know what happened. >> tori, good afternoon. through her attorney, a sonoma county woman said her life is still in limbo. she's waiting to find out if she will face criminal charges. she's accused with confronting a boy who she said was bullying her daughter. in court this morning, delia garcia still didn't find out if the sonoma county d.a. will file charges. the 30-year-old mother of six is accused of roughing up a 12- year-old boy who she says was bullying her daughter at ollievet elementary school. sheriff deputies say she put her hands around the throat of the boy who she confronted on campus. the incident occurred on may 16th. this is the third time the district attorney has asked for

more time to continue the investigation. her attorney says his client is growing frustrated and wants to know one way or another. >> i have to wonder if they are not dragging to feet. i mean, make a decision. they've been provided with the information. the witnesses are available. they know who they are. if they don't know what happened, why did they arrest her? >> reporter: ben adams says an investigation has produced several witnesses who claim the woman never touched the boy. he said she's shared the investigative findings with the district attorney. >> all they need to do is call the witnesses that my own investigator did and this matter can be put to rest. i don't know why that takes months. >> reporter: the district attorney declined to speak with ktvu regarding this story. this incident has garnered international attention. garcia is scheduled to appear in court again on august 28th. riv -- live in the newsroom, sal castanedo, ktvu channel 2 news. passengers calling it unnerving. a fake security screener took a passenger into a private room

a man was arrested at san francisco international airport for posing as a security screener and giving a woman a patdown in a private room. ktvu's alex savidge explains what happened and what the tsa has to say. >> reporter: according to a law enforcement source, 53-year-old eric slighton from san francisco managed to pass himself off as a security screener at sfo. at one point, directing a fellow passenger into a private room for a patdown. it happened tuesday inside the international terminal. a police report says slighton and a woman were in the room together for more than two minutes and slighton reportedly dressed the part, wearing khakis, a blue polo shirt and rubber gloves. a real security officer finally caught on as slighton tried to lead a second woman into the

screening room. airport police arrested him. they say he appeared to be drunk. some passengers say this strange case is unnerving. >> it's slightly disconcerting. knowing all of the steps we have to take, i think it's another measure that they find. >> it took soy many events for us to do what we have to do to have security. i think it's ner way for a loophole. >> reporter: some say this arrest shows you can't trust anyone. >> no. i'm not surprised. we all have to have our guard up and know we're going -- who we're going with anyone. my immediate reaction would be where is your badge, where why your i.d.? >> reporter: the victims in this case are believed to have been foreign travelers and a language barrier may have added to the confusion. police were unable to talk with those two women who boarded their flights. for the time being, slighton is charged with being drunk in public but more serious charges could be coming. >> the tsa did give us a brief

statement this morning. it says "tsa is aware of the alleged incident and is cooperating with law enforcement." but a tsa spokesperson refused to do an interview with us today to offer more details about this investigation. at sfo, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco home prices have hit a milestone. the medium price for a home or condo is now $1 million. that's a 13% increase over last year. marin county also tops $1 million. for the nine county bay area, the medium price is june was $618,000. new at noon, the new home of the 49ers is officially opened for business. janine de la vega was there for the ribbon-cutting ceremony which is just wrapping up and i joins us live from the brand- new levi stadium. good afternoon, janine. >> reporter: yes, ribbon

cutting actually just happened here. there was red and gold confetti here inside levi stadium. you can see the york family along with the mayor here on stage. the new stadium is just very impressive and right now -- right there on the steps, you can see all of the workers. these are all of the construction workers that built leash vie stadium -- levi stadium getting it to look state of the art and pristine. now, i want to go to some video that we just shot a little while ago. i'm not sure if we were able to get the ribbon cutting ceremony as i mentioned just a few short minutes ago. but this symbolizes the official opening of levi stadium. the venue is 1.85 million square feet and seats nearly 70,000 people. we went on a tour this morning and we were shown the various clubs where members paid a premium so they could have access to the areas and better

seating. now, this facility features numerous food and beverage stands and restaurants. but a cool thing is people can use a mobile app that lies you to order -- allows you to order food and have it delivered to your seat. there's wi-fi. the app will allow people to watch plays and find out how long the lines are at searn bathrooms during -- certain bathrooms are during the game. at a news conference, we were able to ask questions to the nfl commissioner as well as jed york. here's what they had to say. >> it's an exciting day for us. you can feel the difference and you know that the fans are gonna feel the difference and i think it's great for this community. i think it's remarkable that the leaders had along with the 49ers. >> my favorite part of the stadium, unbelievable views

from everywhere. the fact that our fans will be connected to the game whether it's through visually and where they are sitting. it will be easier to access food, drink, things like that, you know, through technology. i mean, it's just -- the overall fan experience. >> reporter: there is a green roof atop the luxury suites. there are solar panels on a bridge that connects the stadium to the parking area. this is definitely an environmental efficient stadium. this stadium again is gonna host super bowl 50. they have the capability of adding even more than 70,000 seats. it will also be host to numerous college games. i do want to tell you that the first game is gonna be played here on august 2nd. the san jose earthquakes will take on the seattle sounders. the preseason game is august 17th where the 49ers will face the denver broncos and the home

fog banked up at the coastline. a closer look at the satellite, out towards half moon bay, pacifica and san francisco and still a few patches in the bray itself. current numbers updated for the 12:00 hour. right now, it's 78 degrees in livermore. san jose 76. oakland checking in at 70. san francisco right now 61 degrees. for today, coastal clouds and partly cloudy conditions and another live camera to show you coming up is the bay bridge looking out toward the bay and still some lingering low clouds across the region. a bit of a breeze. the flag getting a bit of a workout. winds around 10 to 20 miles an hour. tomorrow morning clouds, it will be warm inland. the temperatures trend up for both saturday and sunday. the weather pattern is changing. yesterday we were tracking the high clouds across the northern part of the state. that's moved out and for today, we have this weak system moving in, increased onshore breeze and we have the low clouds and fog. a bit less humid. some humidity out there.

it still feels mug you go but not like yesterday and we have the sun cloud mix for this afternoon with more sunshine inland. that's what you would expect this time of year. on the satellite, in fact, the forecast satellite, showing you the clouds and even a few showers could be popping up across the sierra. the low clouds and document on the increase tonight into tomorrow morning and clearing back to the coastline for your friday afternoon. forecast highs this afternoon, ranging from the mid-60s coastside all the way to the low to mid-80s out towards antioch and brentwood. san jose, 77, livermore, 82. redwood city in the upper 70s and half moon bay checks in 65. look ahead to your five-day forecast with your weekend always in view. no major changes. there's not one area i can say get ready for a big change. temperatures are cooling off a little bit and warming up for saturday and sunday. it looks like the warming trend will continue next week into monday and tuesday and the readings will be back up to the mid- to upper 80s. good news if you are not a fan of the humidity, things

beginning to feel a little bit more normal. 24-year-old gilroy man is being treated for a serious injury following a fireworks explosion. it happened on carmel street. police say the victim was holding an illegal fire work when he lit it, causing an explosion. he suffered a serious hand injury and burns to his face and body. gilroy police are reminding residents that fireworks are illegal in the city. anyone found possessing or selling fireworks could face jail time and a fine up to $1,000. it is a celebration of the san francisco zoo today. how a little gorilla and her caretaker celebrated her first birthday and the gift she's passing onto zoo visitors.

u.s. finance am markets have turned lower in afternoon trading giving back yesterday's gain. but stocks remain near record territory. investors are considering a mixed bag of economic data and company earnings reports are monitoring reports that a malaysia jetliner was shot down over eastern ukraine. the dow's down 124. the nasdaq is down 55. s&p is down 19. microsoft's stock is up 1.5% right now on news it is planning one of its biggest rounds of layoffs ever. they plan to cut as many as

18,000 jobs over the next year. microsoft says it's part of a plan to simplify operations as it integrates nokia devices and services into its overall strategy. microsoft is anticipating a restructuring charge of as much as $1.6 billion that would include related benefit payouts. a little lady is celebrating her birthday today at the san francisco zoo. kabib is now 1 year old. her zoo caregivers gave her festive and delicious birthday treats to celebrate her big day. her name means little lady. and she was born at the zoo. kids who come out to see her can receive a dollar off add commission price if they bring a birthday card. we're continuing to following the breaking news, a malaysian airplane has gone down in the ukraine. we're working to find out how
