it was well worth it because he gave his relationship a chance to build a solid foundation efore the tabl [captioning made possible by warner bros. domestic television istribution] harvey: welcome to "tmz live." harvey levin here. welcome back, charles. charles: thank you very much. glad to be back. harvey: how was the trim? charles: good. good. came back to, you know, absolute aos -- chaos again in the country. harvey: you did and we are going to start with that chaos and the fallout, and there's so much of it from the jacob blake shooting. so much collateral damage beyond the fact that poor jacob is paralyzed from the waist down and no yet on why he was
3:01 pm
shot three -- seven times in the back but there were three kids in the car that desperately need help. charles: seeing him shot, you can imagine there are long-term ramifications and something is family is dealing with right now. harvey: we had ben crump on while you were away and ben rightly said we're not talking about short-term, we're talking about lifelong issues these kids are going to have. remember, these bullets were flying inside a car that they were. in beyond terrifying, beyond horrific. these kids need help. >> they're going to need help for a long time. the family is evaluating two different options, either a therapist or a therapy team but they have begun the process of trying to figure it out. one of the things that jacob blake's father talked about at a
3:02 pm
reanlt press conference is the kids are stuck right now. they keep asking why did the police shoot my dad? why would they do that? they can't process what happened and why it happen and would the family, they want to later. the kids have not seen him. as you can imagine, that will be traumatizing for them as well. i think right now the family is just trying to come in to help them -- you can't help them understand what happened but try and comfort them systems neck right now. harvey: lauren, you made such a good points, though, that this is not about help as much as it is comfort because it's so hard to help in a situation like this and splabe it because it's hard for adults to explain it. charles: the kids want answers to, as much of the country does
3:03 pm
and we're not getting any answers. you're right, probably comforting them is the best they can do from now. caller: i'm from illinois and i strongly feel like kids shouldn't have to see their parents get shot like that. it's u. that they have to go and get therapy because our cops do not knowen and where you know, it's for thed we have to make it right for them. harvey: yeah, and it really does show the ripple effect of how this affects so many people. a couple of other things to talk about. the wisconsin -- justice came trying to statement in the prof arrest jacob make and he said he told the police he was in possession of a knife. they go on to say the knife was

on the floor board of the car. he never made it to the floor board. he feels not armed with anything when he was shot so it's confusing. why would he say yeah, i have a knife beforehand if he didn't have the knife. charles: yeah, it's unclear where he would have had the opportunities to say that unless it was just walking around the core -- car he said it. harvey: that was two seconds. literally. you see him walk to the car and it's over. i don't know. why would he say i have a knife when the knife is inside the car? he's not even close to it. something else with the sheriff, charles. charles: yes, the kenosha county sheriff, diveled beth had a news conference back in 2018. seemed like a general conversation about crime levels and how it should be handled, he feels in his county but listen to the way he speaks about,

clearly, peo is really disturbing and some p aren't worth saving. we need to build warehouses to put these people into it and lock them away for the rest of their lives. let's put them in jail. let's stop them from truly -- at least some of these males going out and getting 10 other women pregnant and having small children. let's put them away. at some point we have to stop being politically correct and i , these re what rails, people have to be warehoused, no recreational time in the jame. harvey: he says no matter which race. this was a news conference about, i think, five black teenagers and adults and he said don't want to be politically
3:06 pm
correct, i don't know how else -- charles: you're right. he frey tried to cover it up saying no matter what race. harvey: it says a lot. charles: it was so grase brazen but at least he was honest, and i don't think he meant it this way -- in describing what prisons have become. warehouses. we should just build warehouses for people. harvey: he seems to like the concept of a warehouse rather than understanding how cruel it is. moving on. charles: to the nba where the players did something historic. in the middle of the playoffs, l of the names were canceled monled wednesday night because the players were boycotting because of the blake jacob blake shooting. they're going to resume. sounds like they'll resume on
3:07 pm
friday but the players made it known they want some action and want the league's support in getting some really action on social justice. you've heard a lot of people say these players are boycotting, it's useless, not going to do anything. the players want to make sure they do get some action and they've had those discussions with the league with some of the team owners and we'll see where in goes. harvey: we're told they're putting together an action plan in terms of what they think needs to be achieved in terms of social justice. remember, they're all in a bubble right now and they can get together and figure this out but we're told they're putting together this kind of action plan and what we got from an knack official is that it may be presented to the league itself to adopt. that's a little bit unclear but understand this. charles: there was a meeting early thursday morning where the
3:08 pm
league wanted to address this. >> guys, look, i think we've gotten to the point here -- people are aware that most of the knack players really care deeply about police brutality and social justice and they've made that clear. but i think we're now at the time where it is time for action. just objecting and saying we ed change is not enough to affect change. so putting this to the league who has power, this is how we begin to make changes and hopefully we get different results and don't have people dying in the streets anymore. charles: i'm curious what the players -- you're right, the league has a lot of power, has influence. is the home that the league intervenes with lawmakers, that they get congress? harvey: i don't think they're going -- doing an action plan
3:09 pm
just for the league. i think they want things adopted and getting it into the ether of politics to make it happen. charles: even hoe the nba players boycotted, one of the nba officials we spoke to said the possibility of canceling the rest of the season didn't seem like a real thing because the players know this is their platform and if they go away, they lose their platform. -- before they came back, there was a real discussion by the plagues players, should we play or stay and help our communities? and lebron james said we go and play because we can get in front of a lot of eyeballs. this is the most exciting time of the year for a basketball player, the playoffs. the last thing these guys wants
3:10 pm
to do is sit out and play. it really shows you how much they were hurting yesterday. harvey: and the one thing i got from yesterday, not just the knack but everybody involved in this is it was the disheartening name of the last four, five days, that there were a lot of people who felt, look, there is still racism in this country for sure, and systemic racism at that but a lot of people thoughts that after george floyd's depth, it got everybody's attention. yeah, we've seen other shootings but then this happens and it's like no progress hack made and people are still tone deaf and people are getting killed and people in the streets are getting killed and i think that breaking point is immetly understandable. caller: i'm calling from mpped it's a ally think political statement the nba players are making because they
3:11 pm
don't realize how big an impact they have on the american culture and putting a stop in the playoffs, it's going to make people pay attention and put across, we want change. harvey: hopefully that will happen and maybe this action plan will help. taking a break. charles: jail just got very darnlse for r kell

charles: welcome back to "tmz live" and r kelly is going to be looking for a little more protection while he's in jail in chicago because we've heard from officials at the prison. he was attacked by another inmate. this is not in the cafeteria or anything. he was sitting in his cell when another inmate jumped him and gave him a little beatdown. now, r kelly has been in jail for a long time and the fact that someone didn't attempt to do this before. harvey: it's surprising. charles: really thought he'd be dealing with this regularly ideals -- unless they kept him separated. he said he isn't want to be separated but this time someone attacked him and it sounds like it has to do with some of the protests going on outside of the jail legislate laithly, which has upset life inside of the

prison. >> he does check a lot of boxes of people often targeted in prison. first, he's very famous. secondly, he's accused of sex crimes and third, he has this whole political thing happening outside of the prison that is really weighing on this. charles: we're told that the inmate said to are getting shut down. every time they have a large protest outside of the m.c.c., they have to put everyone on lockdown and it sounds like the prisoners are ticked off about being put on lockdown because of r kelly's issues. harvey: so it's knot really what jason had said, it's just that they're being inconvenienced inside. charles: yeah, r kelly was looked at by doctors and he was ok. no broken bones no, serious injuries.
3:16 pm
we reached out to r kelly ice attorney, what he told us is that r kelly hack a mold inmate. he wouldn't comment specifically about the attack but said that r kelly has been a model inmate. caller: it's very unfortunate that r kelly was attacked in prison. i can o.j. only imagine what it's like to be in prison with someone and there are riots outside and trying to keep him safe but also trying to keep him like the other prisoners. i'm sure that's a challenge. harvey: no, that is absolutely a challenge because i don't think the feds want to give favorable treatment, for sure. moving on. charles: to the fight for social justice and racial equality, which will be featured on the upcoming season of "real housewives of atlanta." we told you that there was a large protest last month in kentucky outside the a.g.'s home

3:18 pm
i don't think porsha wanted it and i don't think bravo wanted it and they knew they could get cell phone video video and that's what they want to show. amount thing, this is the story line for the show. this is what people care about. they are doing a show trying to attract viewers and the fact that this is real, something porsha feels, that it's the most relevant thing going on in society right now can only help the show and it's a good thing. charles: it could help the show and kudos for the producers for -- because i can imagine portia went to them and said which is -- this is what's going on in my life right now. you could also say the producers and bravo saying we don't want to get into anything controversial on the show. kudos to them for being real and

actually showing what's going on. harvey: the world has changed. our company has changed. real housewives of new york is now looking for diversity. the world is changing, media is changing and they've changed and you but -- but honestly, i think this is going to be laced throughout all entertainment in the next year. i think people are producing things now with this in mind and i think you're going to steve see different programming that touches on social justice issues in every way. comedy shows, drama shows, all sorts of -- even action movies i think you're going to see this. caller: i'm from new york proudh -- i am incredibly of portia williams. i think she's doing an incredible job and i'm so glad she's progressing they have
