after the attack has been released. we slowed down the footage. you see a black suv rolling without a driver at the intersection with colfax. after the woman stabbed chief eric tade, he was able to get help. steve staeger is live where this happened. >> reporter: it is an event that is on the mind of firefighterrest. they say the entire department is on edge. they are hoping for a smooth speedy recovery for their leader. it is a call becoming all too common on police radios. >> possible officer calling for help. >> reporter: a call for a first responder requiring first responders. >> report of a stabbing and they are saying the suspect got

is walking eastbound. >> reporter: this time it was denver's fire chief. he was in an unmarked vehicle when a woman jumped in with a knife. >> a woman jumped in and stabbed him, the firefighter exited the vehicle, came back here to the fire station. received medical care here. >> reporter: tade, a second generation firefighter, a 24 year veteran of the department got a helping hand from the very firefighters he leads hospital. >> he sustained injuries to his hand and a superficial wound to his right leg. >> reporter: the good news, his injuries were not life threatening, still, it left yet another group of first responders shaken up. >> the motive is unknown at this time. we have alerted all of our firefighters of the situation

>> reporter: and that woman marlene rodriguez is under investigation for assault with a weapon. and witnesses here on the seen were the ones who pointed her out to the police adele. >> so rodriguez was seen in a previous booking photo. does she have a previous record steve? >> reporter: she does. and we actually looked into that. she has a long criminal record dating back for quite a while. >> all right, steve staeger, thank you. colorado's most notorious killer is being moved perhaps out of state. the department of corrections will not say where the mass murder convicted for the aurora theater shooter is going. it is part of an agreement that lets state prison systems send their inmates to other state and keeps the locations of some of them a secret. he was moved out of the state

referred to as deferred action of parents of americans. it has been a little more than two years since he offered them the chance to stay and work legally in the u.s. but the executive action was met with instant resistance from 26 mostly republican states all led by texas. the attorney general there successfully challenged the ruleing in court stating the president was being too overreaching with his policy. federal court agreed and shut down the program while the administration continues to appeal. now the supreme court has agreed to hear the final appeal and decide whether the executive action is constitutional. today, we spoke with a local immigration advocate who says the immigration community is cautiously optimistic. >> what we know at this point is that it is really unclear what the final vote will be. the court is most likely split with one or two justices that will make up their minds in the course of hearing the arguments. we feel that the president has a strong argument for why this

artist sonya henderson creates intricate snow drawings with snow shoes. they used a drone to capture the design's full scope which went on for miles. she wanted to mimic the flow of water. it took her an more than a dozen volunteers two days to complete. it is one of several snow drawings she has completed in colorado in recent years. she lives in northern california. in minnesota, they are freezing their pants off and putting them on display. temperatures have hovered at around zero the last couple of days. one guy freezed his pants and the idea got legs. now the pants are all over the area. >> i brought them out in the wash after the spin cycle. took a couple of minutes to get them to freeze, when they were easy to stand up. >> the man who started the trend says actually it wasn't his idea. his brother has been doing this

at the airport, we are at 33 degrees. just 11 miles an hour wind. but it is making it feel a little cool. our temperature readings out here at about 32. brief little storm this morning. you remember that? a couple of flight flurries around here and the sunshine in the afternoon. our storm system now pushing into parts of saint louis, chicago, bracing for just a little bit of snow too. now, all eyes on the west. this will be the next big wet weather maker not only for us, but this storm system will travel across to the eastern seaboard by the weekend and just be a monster. we are talking about some big time snowfall totals as well as some coastal flooding possibly out there. right now, it is still bringing some snowfall to the cascades. idaho, montana, and across the rockies. we are anticipating most of the moisture to move tomorrow night and into tomorrow. we will get another one into the evening. you can see a couple of light flurries coming down all the way south toward telluride. but the northern central mountains are the ones that will benefit the most from this system.

in at midnight tonight. last through midnight tomorrow evening. about five to ten inches overall for areas above 5,000 feet. not only will you guys be seeing all the snow, but the gusty winds will be back in full force as well. you know what that means? blowing and drifting snow. vail pass might be a little tricky. keep that in mind. here's the deal. again, it is going to be overnight that we see that band move through. we are tracking a couple of light flurries out west. here it is 7:00 while that one wave winds down, we will be left with a good cloud deck across the city. stretching off to the eastern plains as well. keep in mind, weld, morgan counties, you might have a little patchy fog. by lunchtime, do you have a meeting? we will be looking at some sunshine out there. things are looking good until the evening drive when we have a few little light flurries.

evening our skies clear. that storm system starts to move out and strengthens a bit more before it meets up with the east coast. we will be talking about gusty winds overnight and tomorrow morning. 40 miles an hour speeds across the foothills. here it is 8:00, 9:00 tomorrow morning. it has not hit the i-25 corridor. that is when we have a better shot of seeing wind speeds in the 20 to 30 miles an hour range. tonight, overnight temperatures not too bad. tonight, here in denver, about 23. partly cloudy skies. should be cool, quiet and calm. sunrise coming at 7:17. it will be a cool start. but by the afternoon, similar to today. we hit the 40s with the sunshine out there, it felt good. we might have an isolated flurry here and there, but i wouldn't count on any accumulation. a little more sunshine to work with. going to be in the upper 40s , low 50s across the southeast corner of the state. we will be at about 28 in nederland.

around the metro area. we will line those up along the i-25 corridor and northern colorado but it might feel a little cooler as the gusty winds are flying off the foothills. cooler temperatures for us thursday. the winds still picking up. we will be at 38. we hop up about 10 degrees friday. just flirting with that 50- degree mark. look, it is saturday. wow. fantastic weather and then by sunday, we are talking about the broncos game. we might have a few flurries in the mix. again, looks like more in the second half. and that storm system will stick with us monday. but we will start to warm things up by the middle of next week. >> you know what? >> hm? >> that is playoff football weather. it is what it is. if you are playing this time of year, you want to be playing here, you want to be playing in that weather. broncos focus on that game, it could get them to superbowl 50, motor sports has a brand new look.
