[ audio difficulties ] one-on-one with john elway. how the super bowl win compares to his win as a quarterback and the work to be done in the off season. 9news starts now. worker accused of switching syringes was fired in phoenix. under investigation by the federal government and 9news reporter victoria sanchez found out 100 people in arizona are being offered free testing as a precaution. just like patients here in colorado. >> reporter: a surgical techis being investigated. they found out he was a former employee and identified 97 patients he came in contact with. they are offering free testing for the blood born illnesses.

2014 after testing positive for the use of a controlled substance. he worked there for two months. in january he switched a syringe containing a different substance. he was tested and authorities found marijuana in his system. 25 people need to be tested. he has left the state and he is under investigation. right now that is the only thing officials will say. >> learning more about this as the days move forward. thank you. tomorrow law enforcement from across the state will gather to remember and honor a deputy killed in the line of duty. the funeral is at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow in grand junction.

responding to a report of a armed man. a 15-year-old veteran of the sheriff's office leaves behind two children. is in custody. denver police are looking into second incident involving police impersonators. two people tried to pull over a driver near east kentucky avenue late last night. the driver felt that something was off so he called 911. that blue sedan pulled up next to the victim and drove off. on friday night a different driver was pulled over and robbed by two men in a maroon car. two suspects were involved in each case. police don't know if they are related. all of us expect our kids' teachers to be cleared with background checks but an investigation by u.s.a.

stripped of their licenses end up back in classes. how the system isn't making the grade. >> reporter: they are supposed to be honest but troubled teachers cheat background checks by crossing state lines. an elementary school teacher lied about qualifications to five school districts. after several forced resignations he moved to seattle and lied his way into schools again. >> he wasn't necessarily a danger to children. >> i am not saying i am perfect. i made mistakes. >> reporter: as florida was revoking his license for forgery and failing to act on a student suicide note she got certified in colorado. he was caught trying to meet a 13-year-old boy on nbc's to catch predator.

>> pulled my license when they didn't have grounds to but they did. i let it happen because i didn't have the money to fight it. >> reporter: this boy to got a substitute -- guy got a substitute job in indiana. he was supposed to be flagged in problem teachers but there is confusion as to why the system failed. >> reporter: we found states cond take months and forget to -- could take months months and forget to add names. >> we want to make sure the federal government is doing everything they can to make sure that our children are being protected while they are in these schools. >> reporter: we found 9,000 discipline teachers missing from the database. the director believes it usually works. >> reporter: why aren't all states on the same page to make

and thomas said it is hard to imagine the court without my friend. justice scalia was found dead saturday morning. no official cause of death has been released. it appeared he died peacefully in his bed. he was 79-year-olds and served the highest court since 1986 when he was appointed by president reagan. a vacancy during an election year hasn't happened in decades. president obama would nominate a successor. some republicans threatened to block the president's nomination. >> president can nominate whoever he wants but the senate isn't going to act. >> it has been 80 years since a supreme court vacancy was nominated in an election year. >> bernie sanders and hillary clinton were both in denver
