central sections of the state. just on the ridge lines and passes really light snow showers on the order of a half an inch perhaps by the end of the afternoon today. we'll also get some light snow going again tomorrow in those areas. for us, mid 30s around here now, by the time we're wrapping up the morning commute we're already in the mid 40s headed on our way closer to 60 degrees. closer to home, high clouds over us this morning. you will see some snow showers on the continental divide. they're not going to make it as far down the hill during the day today. gusts today will be strong in the mountains and foothills at 30 to 50 miles per hour. they will generally stay from the boulder area to the west during the day with temperatures moving up into the mid to upper 50s and low 60s across the state. amelia, it's a mild way to

march 30th you will be standing out there in snow. >> it tends to work that way. northbound around monument hill and then lincoln avenue we start to slow down towards the middle of the 5:00 hour but right now you've got a clear commute coming up from the springs. a good start over all linking in towards the dtc. a slow down around 25 and 36 and 84th avenue. 15 minutes on that northbound stretch, around 66 miles per hour. our speeds just adjusted there. it's getting better. there was some erroneous delays across the maps this morning. southbounders, 11 minutes and speeds close to 60. getting out across the metro drive nothing to worry about. this big area of yellow to the west. it's windy out there so i-70 and our drive up and over loveland pass will be very gusty throughout the day. heading out to the airport, so far so good along pena. no issues for your drive.

>> thank you so much. it's 5:32 now. new this morning, an nbc news poll indicates that donald trump has a significant lead among republican presidential candidates this morning. his lead is 2-1 above marco rubio ted cruz comes in third followed by ben carson and john kasich. the poll shows the democratic race much closer. hillary clinton is leading with 51% compared to bernie sanders's 41%. >> a different poll asked republicans if donald trump becomes the presidential nomination who should be his vice president. the poll shows that ben carson is the top pick with 11%. ted cruz and marco rubio are tied for second with 9%. john kasich and chris christie are tied for third at 8%. nearly 40% of people said they don't know or didn't have an opinion. >> that's pretty interesting. okay. 5:33 right now . are you going to caucus tonight? if so there are some things that you need to know about. 9news reporter tarhonda thomas is here again.

voters won't be allowed to caucus. >> reporter: no, they won't. a third of unaffiliated and you have to be registered with a political party in order to caucus tonight. let's take a look at the role colorado will play. democrats and republicans are caucusing in our state. colorado is one of 11 states holding democratic caucuses or primaries. other notable ones include texas, minnesota and virginia. now the republican map is similar with a couple of exceptions. look at those red stripes there. colorado's gop will hold caucuses tonight but will not declare a statewide winner. the same goes for wyoming, which has been holding caucuses for two weeks leading up to super tuesday. now, since there won't be a republican winner to declared analysts are predicting a lower turn out for colorado. they know that and they have not spent money on tv ads or time here. democrats have. the race between hillary

the 20th at the colorado for hours, event information and details on how to buy tickets go to denverauto show.com. another crime in the metro area has been linked to a craigslist ad. it happened on pierce street. the suspect shot the victim and stole the victim's suv, a green ford escape. this morning the suspect is still on the run. at this point we don't have a description. we do know the victim was taken to the hospital and has non-life threatening injuries. so far this year there's been other two other craigslist reported crimes. at the end of january robbing the homeowner in jefferson county. one man was killed. another man

in longmont a man tried to take advantage of a craigslist deal that advertised free weed. he was robbed at gunpoint. a jefferson county pe teacher is going to be in court today accused of having and sharing child pornography. lucas young will be formally charged this afternoon in boulder county. he claims somebody hacked into his computer and that's why those images were on it. he was arrested last week. young worked in the district for 20 years. most recently at sierra elementary. he was also a swim teacher at a rec center. an information was started in december. wind and dry grass make for a dangerous combination when fire is involved. firefighters worked quickly yesterday afternoon to put out a brush fire that started in some open space along alameda near havana at the edge of lowery. a little more than 2 acres burned but firefighters stopped it. one

welcome back. it's 5:49. for the first time researchers have found evidence that the zika virus may cause gillian bar syndrome. the immune system attacks nerve cells and can cause paralysis. the new evidence comes from a study published in a medical journal. between 2013 and 2014 french experienced the largest zika

they saw an increase in the cases of the syndrome. researchers analyzed 42 patients and according to the study about 88% had zika-like symptoms about 6 days before developing paralysis. the medical journal reports that because zika virus is spreading rapidly countries need to prepare to manage patients with gillian bar syndrome. doctors are seeing an increase in the number of young people suffering strokes and that should be a wake up call for anyone between the ages of 18 and 35. many of these young stroke victims do eat healthy, they work out regularly and they don't have a family history of strokes. so what's going on? doctors think that stress may be the big factor for why they are effected. >> unfortunately stroke is not prejudice. it will hit anybody at any point. stress can cause vessels to constrict and then if you have the tiniest blood clot

>> young people are sometimes dismissing the symptoms as exhaustion or pain. other are facial drooping, problems with speech, tingling or numbness in armies and legs. football helmets that don't fit right can make concussions worse. data shows athletes with improperly fitting helmets had more drowsiness, and sensitivity. players had symptoms longer if they wore a instead of gel liners to protect the head. foothills last night we have a east. we have another one we'll see clouds throughout western colorado into the central part of the state through the night. it's dry right now.
