2:00 this morning. police say the car went through a fence, hit a house, ended up in the backyard. there were three men in the saturn. the driver took off. police are looking now for that driver of the suv. police did find a gunman outside of the ford, which was stolen, a gun was also found. this is kind of a dream come true for me >> denver police officer john adsit is back on the job. adsit, it's been an incredible journey, he says with lots of up and downs, and he's really taking it day by day. >> i don't know what the next few years hold at this point, but i feel confident that the next couple of days and weeks

haze. it has been a humid, muggy kind of morning and afternoon. 87% in burlington. 90 in limon. you can see drier air pushing into northwestern colorado right now. the storm system we've been dealing with for the past several days, slowly making its way into kansas, still, we're capitalizing on some of that wrap around moisture. the storm rotation coming in from the northeast to the south and to th out there as well as a lot oflike too. small hail in some spots, but overall, we haven't had any severe storms. for now, the denver metro area is dry. we can't rule out possibly seeing one or two thunderstorms. overall, the heaviest storms, east of the plains. one or two across the interstate, especially across the southwestern suburbs in douglas county by 7:00, 8:00.

the weekend. hurricane madeleine, hurricane lester, they're moving toward hawaii. madeleine would be the first pacific hurricane to make landfall in that state in decades. predicting madeleine will pass dangerously close to the big island. 42 counties in florida are under a state of emergency ahead of tropical storm hermaine, just off the coast along the big bend area of florida, either as a strong tropical storm, or a weak hurricane. if it obtains hurricane status, it would be the first hurricane to hit florida since october of 2005. tornadoes are also possible. residents are already prepping. they've got the sandbags and the state is handing them out for free. >> we have 6,000 members of our

mobilized. but just think, we're going to a storm search. we're going to have rain, a risk of tornado, and this is going to go across the state. it's going to start sometime tomorrow, and is going to hit most of the northern part of the state. especially on the east, the southeast side of this storm. >> a tropical storm warning is also in fect along portions of the gulf coast. a tropical storm watch was issued for the east coast of florida, and that storm crosses into the atlantic. republican presidential candidate, donald trump, met with mexican president, enrique pena nieto today. they did not talk about trump's plans to pay for a wall along the border. trump is calling the visit a great honor and says the nations share a common interest

and prosperous. pena nieto has an approval rating of just 23%. president rousof of brazil is officially out of a job. she's aused of breaking fiscal laws, and mishandling the country's budget. her opponents say that she just exasperated the session in brazil, which led to 10% of inflation more than 54 million votes. she had been suspended since may. she responded with a tweet saying today is the day that 61 men, men of them charged, and corrupt threw 54 million brazil votes in the garbage. for the first time in more than half a century, there is commercial air travel between the u.s. and cuba. a flight from florida landed in

far. the chain does have two stores in the metro area. no illnesses have been reported here. the company says after learning about the infections, they have pulled the strawberries from stores across the country. john torres is joining us live from new york. hi dr. john, how are you? >> i'm doing great, kim. >> as always, hepatitis a, it affects the liver right? >> it all the hepatitises affect the liver. there's a variety of them. in this case, a, exactly what happens here, it comes from a contaminated food. a food worker comes in, doesn't wash their hands well, and spread that to the food. the concerning thing, especially for colorado, it has the incubation period of up to 50 days.

university athlete convicted of sexually assaulting a woman on campus. protests are now planned in anticipation of his release from jail on friday. here's nbc reporter guya schwartz. >> reporter: former stanford swimmer brock turner set to be released friday from santa clara county jail, after serving just 90 days. following three sexual convictions for sexually assaulting an unconscious female. she says you cannot give me back the life i had before that night. vice president joe biden also weighing in with an emotional letter to the young woman, writing a lot of people failed you. i believe you. it's not your fault.

paid attention to the process with her parents. >> more energy she can put towards her cancer fight. >> absolutely, but she really wants to keep her hair. that means so much to her. >> i think a lot of cancer parents will say, it's not only just part of who are you. but there is this awkward thing, people don't know what to say once you've been diagnosed. even though you're not necessarily sick, you might i know we reported about this a few years ago. >> reporter: before, they used to use something called cold caps. very similar to a device that goes over your head. but it's just that. it has to remain on dry ice. it's not hooked up to a big machine. you had husbands of wives, getting breast cancer

just make sure those caps stay cold. that chemotherapy, that medicine gets back in there, and you would have patches of air. it isn't as reliable. this is much more reliable, and a little bit cheaper too. >> is it an option for everyone? >> no. not right now at ceh. right now, it's only open to breast cancer every kind of chemotherapy. so talk to your doctor. >> at least ask. >> absolutely, people are so excited about this happening right now. it's in 26 states, and they're hoping it will be in a lot more soon. >> we do hear of these cases, where people don't get something checked out, because in the back of their head, they're thinking chemotherapy. >> isn't it a great reminder?

>> that's not good, when the meteorologist doesn't have an umbrella. just saying. >> that storm was certainly a talker. this afternoon, we have a chance of seeing one or two move through the region. it is so muggy out there, and we've been watching the showers along the eastern plains. probably just want to find the umbrella first, and then keep it around. the end of august is upon us. how in the world is the summer season coming to an end? it certainly went by our temperatures just a hair below average from where we should be. low 70s as far as temps are concerned. rainfall, we really didn't see all that much, only .22. so of course, downtown a completely different story. we keep score out at dia, so these numbers are a little deceiving. usually, we should have well over an inch and a half over the airport. with those numbers at the airport, we now are sitting at the 8th dryest august on record.

as we say hello to september, and hello to fall, we're looking at slightly cooler temperatures. usually, the average for the month in the low 60s. rainfall, less than an inch, and snowfall, yep, we're talking about the s word, 1.3 inches. out there at boulder, you can see how thick. how muggy the air is. we've been trying to get rid of this, get some of that sunshine in, and it's allowed our temperatures to warm, but not quite as warm as where they sh b year. 81 at the airport. upper 60s in leadville. the heat, it is on, the just across the mountains, and out across the western slope. winds at 3 miles per hour. here in the 9 backyard, our temperatures feeling pretty good too. around 82. a look at hd doppler 9, where the storm system is finally now

rotating with that counterclockwise flow. we could have maybe one or two of those storms reaching the denver metro area later on tonight. again, a couple of isolated showers up in the high country right now. down toward pagoda vinings right now. the biggest story is along i- 70. these guys, they're heavy rainers. you could have a heavy amount of rain in a short amount of time. plenty of lightning out too. these storms are knocking on our backdoor, as they rotate from the northeast into the southwest. tomorrow, we could have one or two isolated storms. if you're headed to the rockies game. bring the gear, just in case. the poncho, if you have it. 56degrees with partly cloudy skies after midnight. 68 in lamar. pueblo, 40s. the rest of this evening, the storms should be winding down,

also, a state of emergency in florida as thousands prepare for a tropical storm headed towards shore. and police search for the driver of a stolen suv who ran after causing another vehicle to crash into a house in edgewater, next on 9news. ? [ music ] ? an officer involved shooting in denver has left one man dead, and three police officers hurt. none. officers were it happened in southwest denver, near west bates avenue, and south bryant street. maya rodriguez joins us from near there with details. maya. >> reporter: yeah, adel, police are not releasing many details about this shooting. investigators are still out here though on the scene where that suspect was shot and killed in this officer involved shooting. now all of this started around noon today. that's when dpd responded to a home in the 2600 block of south

individual wanted on several warrants. officers pursued him, and there was a confrontation in the middle of the street. dpd chief robert white says the suspect struggled with one of the officers over that officer's gun. several shots were fired, and the suspect was killed. a neighbor says she is shocked by what happened. >> reporter: it's quiet. it's quiet here. that's why i was surprised when i saw all of this. and then i wa happened? i was worried because it's here by my house. >> three officers were injured. we believe all of them are minor, maybe with the exception of one, but none of them are life-threatening. >> reporter: again, the suspect is dead. those officers have been placed on administrative leave as is standard operating procedure, in cases like this. and the investigation does continue. we will keep you posted both on 9news, and 9news.com.
