lombardi trophy as super bowl champions... that's pretty encouraging today. it's the home opener and the start of the regular season at mile high... and the broncos are hoping the super bowl momentum- will carry them to an underdog win in a grudge match against the panthers. today- we're live at the stadium- with a look at the players... the fans...and all of the excitement. good morning. cheryl, corey and gary with you our at mile high this morning- all ready to go with our orange and blue. tarhonda thomas and meteorologist marty coniglio are keeping an eye on things back in the studio. marty- it feels like

"orange and blue." today's the day- to break out that broncos gear-- for the "home opener" at mile high against the carolina panthers. corey, gary and cheryl are live at the stadium all morning... i don't think i've ever seen a sitution like this... becasue the broncos are the super bowl champs and thede --adlib hello-- a rematch of epic proportions tonight. these two teams met in santa clara for the super bowl back in february. first big play of the game was one the broncos hope to repeat today.... first quarter--von miller with the sack--and strip of carolina quarterback cam newton. this game was all about defense--and the broncos had and still do have the best in the league. second quarter--safety darian stewart forces the football out of mike tolbert's hands. broncos recovered--and had the lead 13 to seven. third quarter... t-j ward intercepts the cam newton pass... he gets the ball knocked out of his hands... but danny trevathan is there to jump on it. in the fourth... broncos up 16 to ten von miller seals up the super bowl m- v-p trophy... stripping newton

they'd add 12 more points... and go on to win 24 to ten. it was the tale of two m-v-p's in super bowl 50. one decided to show up--the other didn't. cam newton was the regular season m-v-p.... von miller would end up the super bowl m-v-p.... obvious to see why. he had two and a half sacks... forced two fumbles... both of which the broncos recovered. meanwhile--newton complete just about 44 percent of his passes... threw on interception.... no touchdowns... and fumbled the ball twice. hopefully--it'll be

in today's top stories. a 17-year-old boy who nearly died... at the hands of his own parents. authorities in longmont say-- the child almost starved to death. doctors likened his condition to that of someone who would have been held at a "concentration camp." the teen is legally blind.. and has autism. when the 17 year old went to the hospital, he

his parents-- are facing felony charges this morning. detectives say the abuse happened behind closed doors. neighbors didn't even know the couple had a son. the teen suffered from severe malnutrition and lacked seven basic vitamins and minerals. according to the arrest warrant- the boy's father took him to the hospital because he thought his son had the flu. e boulder county human services. colorado is breaking ground in the cannabis field again. this time- farmers are looking at growing hemp, not marijuana. state agriculture officials have been working to develop domestic certified hemp seeds. the seeds are supposed to consistently produce plants low enough in t-h-c to produce hemp instead of its intoxicating cousin. colorado farmers can buy the certified seeds in 20-17. more college students are giving

shows- 38 percent of students nationally used marijuana in the last year. researchers say- fewer people think the drug is harmful. that's despite research showing marijuana can cause a decline in academic performance. while marijuana use has gone up on college campuses-- abuse of prescription drugs, heroin and amphetamines has gone down. the outrageous rising cost of epi- pens caused public outcry and protests. well, now, the price hike is under inveat a senate investigations committee says they have opened an "inquiry" into price hikes from drugmaker mylan pharmaceuticals. senators on the committee say they share the public's concern over the increases... an epi-pen in the u-s now costs about 600 dollars. but some industry experts say - it's original value -- is no more than 30 dollars. mylan-- the company that makes epi-pens-- got hammered in the public outcry. the company is now offering patients coupons... and developing a cheaper, generic

mosquitos have officially made it to the house floor... a florida congressman brought a jar of the bugs as a prop. republican david jolly criticized congress for failing to pass a one-point-one billion dollar plan to fight the zika virus... he also asked lawmakers to imagine how they would feel if the bugs were released. he later confirmed - the mosquitoes were zika-free. colorado is pretty good at slimming down... but not everyone is on the same page. why our state is a warning. and ryan lochte won't be competing in the pool any time soon... his post-rio punishment. plus-we'll check back in at mile high stadium for some tips on how to get the "broncos party"

civic center park. the nfl kickoff village experience opened there yesterday afternoon. there will be free concerts there tonight just before kickoff. those concerts - will feature one republic - from colorado. and dierks btl the game with some guy named peyton manning. fans can see the lombardi trophy, try on broncos jerseys and helmets - and run a peyton manning retirement challenge obstacle course. bannock street near civic center park - has been renamed this week: as broncos boulevard. the game will not be shown at civic center park -- and the park will be cleared right at kickoff. --brief chat and toss to weather-- aspen's plastic bags- and the 20 cent fees it takes to get them- are heading to the
