and as for i-25 clear across downtown to the tech center but there is a motorcycle accident to the east right along yale avenue and jersey street. >> thank you. a bus full of high school football players and coaches went off the road near dia. some of the coaches and players are in area hospitals and the driver of the bus was killed. the players are from legacy high school in broomfield. they just got back over the weekend. 3 busses came to dia to pick them up, one of them with 18 students and 1 adult on board we want back to the terminal. the road curves left but the driver continued straight and hit a large cement pill later. in all 15 students and 3 coaches were taken to 4 different hospitals after the accident.

we're told the coaches were pretty seriously injured. >> reporter: yeah, that's what sources tell 9 wants to know. the coaches were the ones who were near the front of the bus and as you know the front received the heaviest impact. students are still at area hospitals. 2 are at children's hospital we're told they are in fair condition. the rest of the 5 were taken to denver health sustained more serious injuries. we're told 2 condition, 2 in serious and one in fair condition as of last night. we are hoping to learn today about who was injured and the extent of those injuries this morning as the investigation continues. we should note dia is also conducting their own investigation into exactly what happened and making sure that the rest of the airport is structurally safe. they checked that pillar that was crashed into late last night and able to determine that it is safe. as

guys, we have multiple agencies everyone from dia, denver police school officials looking into what happened here hoping to get to the bottom of this very bazaar crash. >> all right. thank you very much. the parker community is now doing what it can to help a douglas county detective who was shot in the line of duty. they're raising money hosting blood drives and gathering window to show support. he is still in icu today. you can donate blood today at the parker police department. you do need an appointment. hundreds came to parker yesterday afternoon to show their support for the detective. he was shot more than a week ago responding to a call of a suicidal man with a gun. community organizers held a prayer service to show their

his family on sunday. they encourage people to wear blue and gather in a spot that's visible from the detective's hospital room. >> have the pride and help him to recognize how important it is to honor the -- not only the bright family but all the law enforcement in parker and across america for what they do and the sacrifice that they make on a everyone. >> bright was only a few hundred yards away from parker and the hospital when he was shot. the quick medical care he received they say likely saved his life. >> an 11-year old boy drowned on a rafting trip. he died in june of last year.

keeping and not safety violations. the company had been warned that it could lose its permit. crews in long mont are trying to find the cause of an abandoned sugar mill there. it started before 7 last night when firefighters got there smoke was coming from the south side of the building. crews for you to the fire from the outside because of hazardous materials inside. boyd county says the building was confirmed to contain asbestos years ago. it has sat empty since the 1970s. a water commission is looking to build a pipeline from colorado to new mexico. the commission members are meeting october to talk about it. it could cost 10 to $15,000 but further study to bump that up to $250,000. they're looking to

a terrible thing she said about so many great americans unquote. clinton is somewhat walking back those comments now saying that she was being general and she regrets the number of people she labeled as deplorable but does not apologize for the label itself. she says she will continue to call out racist rhetoric. today trump said on fox news that he hopes mrs. clinton gets well soon. he while clinton was supposed to attend a private fundraiser in california. it's been cancelled after she was diagnosed with pneumonia on friday. high clouds over the area in morning cooler air settling into wyoming and montana the big horn mountain and then up toward northwestern wyoming and western montana.

5 inches already ahead of that system we have some gusty west winds of that kept us warm and dry overnight. this afternoon winds shifts come out of the northeast up to 20 miles per hour, a few very light showers. if you're lucky enough to get rain you're not going to be lucky to get much generally less than a 10th of an inch. westerly wind shifts this morning starts coming out of the northeast and that keeps mp comfortable range than they were yesterday. we'll northbound the 70s with 60s and 70s in the mountains and foothills. southwestern colorado looking for the most organized rain showers today. we'll see some decent rain there perhaps upwards of a quarter of an inch. the rest don't really get much going around here. 70s here,

much warmer in southeastern colorado today, 75 partly sunny an evening thunder shower possible in one or 2 locations only after those finish up the clouds do not want to go away tonight. that allows us to stay fairly cool. temperatures in the 40s tonight, 60s tomorrow. as far as the front range goes our best chance for most consistent rain will be tomorrow and then storm chances decrease going through the rest of this week as temperatures hold in the 70s right on and at 6:15 we are getting busy out here. all sort of trouble spots across the city. taking a live look from sky 9 over 6th and sims. we're going to go out to our cdot camera and take a look at a big didn't on the southbound i-25 ramp leading onto 270, it's blocking 2 left lanes left shoulder as well. traffic squeezing by on the right lane. take a look at that back up.

up quickly and could see the impact extend up towards areas of 84th avenue. crash wise we're going to go out to the west. a crane struck a bridge overnight and the eastbound lane of i-70 is shut down. it could last throughout the week. as we peek out to the south side as well a big crash down at the south end around sky view lane, that northbound slow down is going for about a quarter mile. we're going to check things out the area and see which lanes are getting through. >> thank you. well, denver is celebrating

you'll notice this if you filled up over the weekend gas prices have gone up more than $0.04 a gallon. the average price is gallon the average in colorado is 218. analysts say the increase is because retailers are paying higher wholesale prices if oil prices stabilize we might have to pay a little bit more in the coming weeks. hopefully not. the 5th annual denver start up weeks kicks off today. this is a big deal it's one of the biggest entrepreneurial events with about 10,000 expected to

this are pictures from last year's event. there will be programs to talk about food design, marketing and diy. denver start-up weeks says it's noticed that more women young entrepreneurs and veteran entrepreneurs are coming onboard to show their interest in denver alone there are 664 start-ups right now. all events will take place at the downtown denver convention center. it is free to attend. you do need to sign you can go to denver startupweek.org to do that. the galaxy note 7 was put on recall then the faa warned they can cause fires on airplanes now samsung is urging customers to turns the phones off and exchange them. they can catch on fire. affected customers will get another device until new models are issued.

students at 1 high school in colorado walking into class today with football players and 3 coaches on their minds. they're all recovering from a deadly bus crash. some back at home others are still in a man will face charges today -- a judge today, details on his first day in court. >> and hillary clinton is not on the campaign trail today after stumbling and getting sick yesterday. the health scare that is changing the democrat's scheduled to, we'll talk about it coming up. meanwhile a truck with a crane hit a bridge at i-70 and 6th avenue and you can expect extra traffic around there today, and pretty much the rest

the far-right lane of i-70 east of 6th will be closed until they get it fixed. we have more on what to expect and how you can get around it. >> all right let's talk about that traffic claimant we're starting things off with a view. this is actually across our drive here if we can get a location for sky 9 that would be really helpful i want to make sure that we're getting the best information here. sky 9 just arrived overhead and this is a roll over crash. obviously the car on its top. anywhere from sky 9 on their location. we'll check back. southbound i-25. we're going to get this informau and come up in a little bit. we need to talk by the issue across the i-70 corridor with the closure in mind of the right lane the east bounds stretch it's going to be closed throughout the rest of the week because the bridge was struck by a crane. if you do need an alternate using 6th avenue to connect with golden it will help you out quite a bit.

northbound i-25 major delays there starting out leading up to the wreck almost a mile at this point. we've got cars pulling off to the shoulder and the crash sits just to the north. we're also seeing a southbound back up as well. your drive to the north a major ramp closure in addition to our right lane southbound i-25 to 270. we're going to go ahead and take a look at your drive throughout the morning and h partly cloudy conditions looking off to the east we see a few trailing clouds scooting out here. we'll get some sun this morning. we have had wind out of the west overnight that has kept it mild. but we're beginning to see the wind shift very gusty in morgan county it's coming out of the north in we would county that's cooler air that will be sinking down on the next 2 to 3 hours. keeping us

shower today be very light and in only a couple of spots and after 4:00 this afternoon. too many a cooler day with the best chance of rain in the afternoon and then bounce back into the 70s as our rain chances decrease wednesday and thursday. coming up this week ends looks like classic fall weather. it is now 6:33. this is the image no parent wants to see a school bus crashed against a concrete pillar and yes, this were children onboard. was picking up legacy high school football players from are dia. they played a week ends game in california. as the bus driver went back around the terminal they crashed. the road curves left but the driver continued straight. that bus driver was killed. more than a dozen players and coaches were injured. 15 of them were taken to 4 different hospitals. we have team coverage of this starting live at denver health where some of the victims were taken.

and we should note that the latt update we got was last night so keep in mind that the numbers may be different this morning as additional students or staff may have been released overnight. last check 7 students or coaches are still at area hospitals 2 of them at children's hospital we're told are in fair condition but the rest of the 5 who were brought to denver health who are still in the hospital this morning we're told legacy high's booster club tweeted all the players or students involved in this crash suffered minor injuries and doing okay this morning, however, they said that 3 of the coaches all the coaches on that bus suffered very serious injuries. the support online has been incredible even the rival high school has been sharing notes of encouragement for all the people involved in

investigation as investigators try to figure out why this bus driver made an additional loop before crashing into that pillar. guys, ascertain lot of puzzling aspects to this investigation. we're hoping to learn more about it this morning. first more on what legacy high is doing to support these students. >> reporter: good morning. high school students are one bi. many of the students you said tweeting messages to those involved in the crash. according to legacy high school's website today is the beginning to home coming week. adams 12 will have a crisis response team. students who knew the players and coaches respond by last night to show their support. one student said no matter what they stick together. >> i was really close with one

helped me a lot, and the football team has also helped us for like very close and like a family. >> reporter: as you can imagine, participants, students staff they really want the answers. this still remains under investigation at this time. one thing to keep in mind late last night dia says the east side where the crash happened is still closed. wore working to get more information to see if it is reopened for the but on the safe side you probably want to direct your traffic or travel to say the west terminal today until he get final word that everything is cleared up. >> all right. thank you much. 6:36. police say this is the man who shot and killed a woman last week. today he will be in court for the crime, strange is now in jail without bond. he's accused of killing a woman on september 3rd rd.

she was shot to death. police arrested him saturday morning. police say a man who led officers on a chase fired shots from his car along the way. officers from denver arrested james anthony draper sunday afternoon. place say that he stole a car, fired the shots. he's also accused of pointing his gun as officers. police now have 4 scenes to process where they say shots were fired. he is also p homicide on memphis street on saturday. we're told he may also have felony warrants out in denver. luckily nobody was injured with all this. denver police are investigating a shooting downtown that left one person dead sunday morning. police arrived at 29th and welton after 7 and that is when they found a man's body. they have not made any arrests and not saying much else. we are going to be hearing

some students have skies are beginning to clear good bit of sunshine anticipated from now through 3, 4:00 and then we will cloud up yet again. cool air is in the west and northwest. i mentioned the snow that was up in glacier national park. for us a few very few thunder showers late this afternoon. most of us will not see rain. if you're -- some of the lucky few the total rain you

an inch really well less than. wind has been out of the west this morning, but it is now shifting and that northeast breeze bringing in the cooler air that we've been anticipating. temperatures in the 70s here today much cooler than yesterday's 90 the, 60s and 70s in the mountains. statewide we have a quiet period from now through the early part of the afternoon. after about 2, 3:00 we'll developing southwestern colorado. through lake city and down towards silverton that's where we'll have the most organized rain throughout the day. everything else will be very patchy with not many of us seeing the showers. east of the border it is much more humid and the thunderstorms will be more consistent. still hot in southeastern colorado it will take so long for the front to drop down south we'll be able to

90s there. windy and dry in the southwest that's why we have the extreme fire danger with pleasant conditions around here. 75 partly sunny, mainly evening thunder shower in one or 2 spots around the area. those are going to move out very quickly this evening. but the clouds will not -- clouds and cooler air 45 tonight we're into the mid-60s tomorrow, tomorrow looks to me like our best opportunity to pick up some consistent rain across the area. then storm chances start to slip a bit as week. but the temperatures really don't accelerate again at least not this week. a busy drive lots of crashes some new construction activity because of some repairs that need to be done and building volume on a monday. starting off to the south side we've got northbound i-25 tangled up from an earlier wreck. the back ups extended for with about a mile but traffic is now flowing as

shoulder. crash wise there's a lot happening. we'll start off with the repairs along 6th avenue and i-70, the eastbound lane is closed down and alternates are going to be needed. right now volume is doing okay but heading through golden could save you time. we've got a southbound crash regarding roll over vehicle leading onto 270, back ups to 104th and traveli 225 a little sluggish southbound up to 20 minutes. some students have been released but others are still in the hospital this morning after that bus carrying high school players crashed into a pillar at dia. the bus driver was killed. the football players are from ll in broomfield. they just got back from playing a game in california. 3 school buss came to pick them up at the airport, one of them with 18 students and adults onboard we want back to the terminal for some reason.
