knew that could be a problem. when she became secretary of state in 2009, a staffer says clinton's aids asked him to see if he could get her and her staff secure blackberry phones. he found that would require an entirely new infrastructure so it never happened. we can't be sure that's why clinton kept using her personal e-mail for work, but we did know she kept on blackberry. several other staffers say she kept one in a secure communications room near her office even though cell phones weren't supposed to be in there. can you smell it in the air? the scent of heavy stock paper and envelopes, that's the smell of democracy in colorado. mail in ballots went out today, finally a chance to turn your

vote. this is the first election where each registered voter gets a ballot. you have until halloween to sign up to get a ballot. you can register the same day it has election if you can prove you were a colorado resident for 22 days and bring an identification. if you're not seeing your ballot and are convinced someone stole it in a plot to rig the election, call the county office, and they'll get you another one. yes, donald trump is back to calling the election rigged months ago on next that was firmly debunked by colorado's secretary of state, alongside the former secretary of state, also a republican. former secretary of state scott gessler who ran for governor and lost said if officials could rig the elections they probably wouldn't lose their own races.

election, it's nutty. two debates on 9 news this week, including the congressional district. democrats come after this seat hard every two years, and this cycle morgan carol is the democratic candidate. she's tried to tie kaufman to donald trump, so we asked her about her candidate and whether americans can truly believe hillary clinton. >> reporter: do you think that hillary clinton is trtw taking up issues about the middle class, whether she'll fight for education, human rights, civil rights, making souped decisions -- sound decisions on national security, i trust shale make the best -- she'll make the best decision she can for all of us. >> reporter: that sounds like decision making and leadership,

all right, the winds have been insane today.
6:11 pm
you give me the word. 60 miles per hour wind gusts in greeley, and fort morgan at 63, 49 in boulder, and at dia not too bad in the mid-30s. still watching the gusty winds push through, all part of a cold front just digging into the state right now in the 50 miles per hour range in greeley, over to fort morgan they're really seeing the first of it. down in southern colorado we're hi 60 miles per hour speeds. of course high fire danger, especially in southeast colorado this afternoon and evening, and luckily tomorrow things quiet down in terms of winds, and temperatures cool off, even a little rain and snow in the mountains. tonight down to 39, and the winds backing off just a bit, and daytime highs return to the mid-60s, right where we should be. tomorrow should be a nice dry day, feeling good, and late in

light little showers. if anything the northern plains have the best shot of seeing the rain. cool at 55 wednesday, and warm up quite a bit toward the weekend, back in the mid to upper 70s. a taste of everything. thank you. we return to the conversation with morgan carol, the democratic republicanning mike kaufman who represents brighton to aurora to centennial. i asked carol about hillary clinton's suggestion in a recently leaked speech that polis positions and different private positions if they want to get deals done. >> reporter: do you have private positions on issues that voters don't know about different than the public positions? >> for me what you see is what you get, so i think that people have a right to know what you think and where you stand. >> reporter: is it troubling to you if you're elected and if hillary clinton is elected you'd be dealing with a president who has that policy about a public and private

executive, anything else, where i know that what i see is what i get. for me i prefer to do negotiations with people where anything they're telling me is factually where they are, it's -- exactly where they are. it's easier and straight forward that way. i think to this day it's extremely difficult for people to know what mike kaufman believes. he says one thing in colorado, another if it's a different audience for a difference topic he'll say something else, so one thing that's consistent about him is he'll do or say anything that's helpful to him in office, so when you want to try and predict back to you issue of having a public position or a private position, it has always been extremely difficult to know where he's going to come down on an issue. >> the argument -- >> reporter: the argument his

conservative for about split district, a third, a third, a third. by that wouldn't you be too liberal? >> i think you need who's most responsive to the problems in the district. the labels on either side aren't helpful, and i say that because it doesn't give you higher wages, doesn't put food on the table, done make college affordable. call it whatever you want, it's not the label of whether he's co liberal conservative helps us here. you have to start with the people in the district first, what are the issues they care about, are you solving them. they really don't have time or patience for us to talk about conservative, liberal, democrat, republican, they want to know how you're going to help them and their family. >> reporter: thank you so much. >> the full discussion is going up on youtube tonight, we talk about foreign policy to abortion rights, gun rights to

you'd think a 15-foot neon sign would be tough to lose, but it's impossible, and it's a piece of history that just resurfaced. who remember the sign that used to they believe it first went up in 1949, but then went into storage, and at some point the storage company threw it in the trash. the sign was found by someone, and it somehow made its way to a neon sign restorer in town that fixed it up and returned it to the vfw post good we're really happy it's home. it's a big part of who we are and a big part of our history, and being we're in the denver

than just exercising, saying it returning us to our core as humans, so we took a walk to feel better about ourselves. >> let's go this way. >> reporter: what do you see walking that you don't typically see if i was driving a car? what's something i miss out on? >> you know, one of the biggest things, it's the details, it's the reality, it's the face to face with the public. it's the alongside approach of backgrounds. it's, um, it's actually feeling what it's like walking through a dangerous intersection and cars are moving pretty fast. it's actually waving and seeing neighbors and going through your communities and being stewards of neighborhood safety. when we move through the public realm, we engage of level of connection that's so intrinsic
6:21 pm
listening, observing, waving, all these mechanisms for connection play out, and it's nothing to do with how someone votes, what they look like, how much money they have, when we engage the public realm we're humanizing how we connect with people. i'm always encouraging people, someone you know you disagree with, someone on the other side of the political or religious spectrum, a different race, ask them to go for a walk. you don't have to agree by the humanizing the situation. >> reporter: what is it about walking that makes it happen? why couldn't i jump in the car and take a ride with them? >> because there's a lot of science behind it in terms of what literally physiologically goes on inside the bodies, but i like to simplify it that we're moving, and the blood is
