of two child abuse cases north las vegas police announced last week... the other involved cynthia lavender, a child care worker now facing charges of child abuse and murder for the death of a 5-month old. " as a licensed child care provider i always try to touch bases..." licensed daycare professionals say while a license wont guarantee absolute safety, it does guarantee a passed background check, stress management classes, and unannounced inspections... gayle thomson, ms. gayles little school "always make sure that the facility is licensed, its not an 100 percent safety net, but it is important." for the lopez's, robles lack of training caused their child his health... now they hope justice makes her pay for her abuse... donate to their cause on go fund me under baby jonothan's road to recovery. police say neither of the women arrested had a recorded history of child protective service calls... a father whose 12-year-old son shot and killed himself appeared in court today. he's facing child abuse charges, after police say the boy used a gun that was too accessible. he had firearm in house it was loaded. child got a hold it wasn't properly locked up and now we have dead 12 year old because of his defendant action. a defender for 31-year-old odin manuel argued bail should be set low, so manuel could provide for his family and see his son's grave. the judge set bail to 25 thousand dollars, and said manuel must go on house arrest if he gets out of jail. manuel's next court appearance

and in another courtroom, lawyers debated with a judge over the questionaire that will be presented to the jury... when they decide if a man should be sentenced to death. this is for 23- year-old javier righetti, who pleaded guilty just a few days ago to killing 15- year-old alyssa otremba. the arbor view high school sophomore was walking home from a friend's house, when she was kidnapped, tortured, and killed. a woman's body was discovered in a laundry chute at the d-hotel casino over the weekend. the clark county coroner's office says the woman is 26-year-old kalli medina-brown, from citrus heights california, homicide detectives are investigating, saying the circumstances of her death are suspicious. medina-brown's death was shocking news to her loved ones back home, who told us a bit about her. legal assistant. police haven't said how her body ended up in the laundry chute. the suspect in friday's deadly strip is behind tonight we're learning more suspect's long criminal history. police tell us they pieced together information with surveillance video from the miracle mile shops garage. we have some video of the fight officers arrested this man- omar talley. they say he started fighting with jerraud jackson in the parking garage. there was a fight on the 3rd floor of miracle mile parking garage involving 2 females up to 4 males that's when security broke up the fight. jackson and two women go into one car. police tell us tally got in his car and followed. on one part of car and followed.

a man with a gun, drawing that conclusion that led up to the shooting investigators say the man with the gun is talley, they think he pointed it an one of the women in the other car. a few minutes later, officers tell us shots were fired from tally's car at harmon west of the 15. in this exclusive video, you can see the scene friday morning as emergency crews closed off the street. that's where one woman was found shot, laying in the street. people heard the shots, i don't have an actual witness to the shooting car, with jackson in the passenger seat, drove to the cosmopolitan hotel valet. valet attendants helped jackson and the other woman in the car, both who had been shot. the two women died, jackson survived. fox5 obtained more pictures of omar talley. he told police he was drunk and under the influence of marijuana. he said he took a cab to the strip, not his car. talley's girlfriend told police talley told her to say she loaned the car to talley's brother. the two women killed in the shooting are 27 year old melissa mendoza and jennifer chicas. they're both from california. tally is due in court tomorrow. one person is

ce say he shot and killed a man earlier this month. metro arrested 17-year-old devin alvague friday. police say in this case, he's being considered an adult. metro says on february ninth, police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound near mojave and vegas valley drive. he later died at sunrise trauma center. police say the victim got in an argument with alvague and a woman outside his home. metro says one of those people shot the victim, and

truck. the woman was also found and interviewed by detectives. this is metro's 16th homicide investigation this year. we have an update to a story we brought you last friday. a faulty transformer is to blame... for a power outage at the westgate that left hundreds of gamblers the dark. the clark county fire department says an old transformer started smoking late thursday night. this transformer distributes electricity to different parts of the hotel. the power went out everywhere on the casino floor except the sports book. when firefighters investigated, they found water around that transformer. " "this one had a little bit of corrosion to it a little bit of wetness in there from a leakage in and round the area - leakage of water - fluids."" the transformer was replaced, and the westgate was fully functional by friday afternoon. firefighters don't believe guests were ever in danger during the outage. the westgate has not given any updates today on the outage. on friday, laughlin's electricity went

people who live there were in the dark for hours, and businesses were also dark. fire officials and n-v energy are trying to figure out why the fire started. we know clark county is facing a teacher shortage. it's a problem that's also seen around the country. today clark county and the 'american association of colleges for teacher education' met at u-n-l-v to discuss solutions. clark county's shortage is partially due to the increasing number of students entering the district. to bring in more teachers... c-c-s-d is offering more than two dozen different ways to get licensed.
