fox5 news at 10 starts now dozens of people gather to honor a seven year old boy--- killed in a crash on the i-15-- how his family and friends are remembering him tonight. a bee attack in a valley neighborhood... now a neighbor who saw it all go down... shares the details. this is fox5 news at 10. local. las vegas. dozens of people came together to remember a seven year old killed in a crash earlier this week. i'm john huck. i'm cyndi lundeberg in for christine. the young boy was riding in a semi truck when the driver crashed into another truck on interstate 15 a few miles south of the california border near primm. fox 5s eric hilt is live at mlk and lake mead where a vigil was held

it was a very emotional scene as this parking lot filled up with people sharing memories about the seven year old killed in this crash for many of the dozens of people at the vigil -- it still doesn't feel real "i feel like it's a dream, i really do" on wednesday - seven year old dj spencer was riding in a semi truck ok interstate 15 near the nevada- california border -- when the truck crashed into the back of another semi. dj was pronounced dead at the scene. "i screamed no no no. i just, i was just totally at a loss, there's no words to describe the pain i'm feeling and will continue to feel" tonight family and friends came to ether to help eachother through that pain -- and to grieve together. california high patrol says the driver of the semi dj was riding in may have fallen asleep at the wheel leading to the crash. it started with a convenience store robbery--- and ended with a man-- firing shots at police. part of the exchange-- was caught on camera. police say around three a-m... 23 year old lawrence manriquez walked in the 7-eleven on twain and maryland parway.. fired his weapon and took off with cash and a clerk's wallet. he then took off--- and fired shots at officers.... that's when he crashed near sands and koval.... and then he ran onto wynn's property-- where he was eventually caught. "lt. glen lowe: the vehicle was struck the officer was lucky that he wasn't struck also. the guy was very violent felon and he was willing to shoot at police to get away " manriquez was booked for robbery with a deadly weapon, burglary with a deadly weapon, and attempted murder of a police officer. a man accused of robbery and

facing the death penalty. his trial originally set for next week...is being moved to next year. jin ackerman is accused of robbing two pharmacies in december 20- 14--and killing a cleark he used to work with. the 27-year-old pleaded not guilty to murder...kidnappin g and armed robbery charges. he's accused of robbing two walgreens stores at gunpoint and shooting 58-year- old 'antonio isnit' during the second robbery. the trial is re-set to may 20-17. preparing--- in case of an emergency.... city hall hosting an active shooter drill this morning. . again-- this was just a drill.... multiple agencies-- including metro, north las vegas...henderson police...court marshals and fire officals joined together for the simulation inside city hall. the active shooter scenario involved a gunman firing at people inside. in a real-time scenario, police demonstrated how to bring victims to safety

talked with neighbors and the company called in after the man was taken to the hospital. sot : " it was definitely one of the most horrific things i have ever seen" a man swarmed and stung by hundreds of bees one woman saw the attack, and while she opted out of showing her face, she did want to share her story... " get a blue towel and he was trying to get them off he was screaming and i couldn't even see his face there were so many bees" she quickly called the police she says the man being attacked wasn't wearing protective gear but he did seem to be working with two others who were covered. there was no logo on the truck they were working out of and they were just vacuuming the bees. she thinks they might of been an unlicensed exterminator. "once he fell and kind of stop fighting that's when one of the guys that had the head suit on walked over and sprayed him with something" she says by then he wasn't moving... the man was rushed to a nearby hospital with life- threatening injuries. the bee problem didn't end there. "you should never attempt to treat a swarm of bees or a bee's nest on your own, don't ever spray it with water or throw rocks at it." the bees are still around today and neighbors feel that the county or e should let the neighborhood know to stay away from the area. trying to fight them only get the more agitated. the fate of 600 birds is up in the air... after they were rescued from a possible cockfighting ring in a valley neighborhood. the animal foundation released this statement saying... they received a lot of inquiries regarding the final disposition of the approximately 600 fighting birds that entered our care on the evening of august 3. at this time, no decisions have been made as many outlets have reported. it's graduation day for a group of students thanks to opportunity 86 kids walked across the stage for completing the job discovery program. it's magic you know when you see them, they pick their own theme music, they all come dancing up. i mean there isn't a dry eye in the house when this is done. the program helps students with intellectual disabilities prepare for the work force. they spend nine weeks trying out different jobs in non profits around the community. students learn skills in maintenance...retai l...child care...and indusrial fields. the program is in its fourteenth

local police officers get a big thank you from the community. in the form of 700 small thank you's. a program called "thank our blue" started three weeks ago in a henderson hallmark store. customers could add a card to their order and write a thank you note to police. a dozen display boards with messages from all over the community were presented to metro today.
