a thousand students and staff. but is it enough for worried parents? fox5's faith tanner joins us live near walter johnson junior high .. and faith .. you talked with some parents .. what are they telling you? tomorrow morning at 8:45... johnson jr high school will reopen as students return to class for the first time since this last wednesday. we learned today that at that time mercury levels were 10-15 times the same limit... but now the epa says its safe for kids to be back inside parent: i'm excited that school is going to be open tomorrow it's been a long time, too many days missed from school" mom, stephanie henderson says it's about time johnson jr. high school reopened. classes have been cancelled the last 3 days-- while the epa cleaned up and decontaminated the building after a mercury spill. parent : " today i went and got all her blood work done just in case... but the doctor told me not to worry" still, parents like

hesitant about sending their kids back to school. parent: "now i'm still kinda fearing like is it really safe for them to come to school" the school district claims it is safe. " the campus is safe. it's been checked and checked again and cleaned throughly" but school officials have not yet said when the mercury was first brought on campus, and who brought it in. leaving some parents on edge. found crawling in booths in a casino's restaurant. the home town kitchen in the silver nugget is now closed. fox 5 first brought you this story... after a woman felt biting on her legs while having breakfast with her family. the woman asked wait staff for a piece of tape to grab one of the insects... she even checked around in booths around the restaurant. she says the staff tried offering her free food but she refused. "i'm just crawling. i couldn't sleep last night, i'm paranoid. i'm extremely like i said i'm so full of anxiety i'm overwhelmed. the silver nugget casino says they closed the restaursant's doors. they say the health department is examining the area to identify the source. police tell us a suspected drunk driver hit and killed a bicylist near torrey pines and charleston last night. we now know that bicyclist is jeremy clark and the accused drunk driver is luis aguilar-lujan. fox5's miguel martinez valle went back to the

those around the wreck told you it could have taken many more lives? jeremy clark was biking around this corner. lujan's truck (ad lib) and crashed through this wall. the truck came dangerously close to a bouncy house where 10 kids were playing in the yard. " we heard tires screeching, and next thing we know the car came from over there..." for the munoz family, it was supposed to be a celebration. they were hosting a friend's 21st birthday party. " like 20 minutes before the car came, everybody was standing over there" child: " it crashed and we saw blood" " i was trying hard not to cry in front of them, because i didn't want them to panic more" for jeremy clark, it was supposed to be a sunday evening bike ride. police arrested lujan and charged him with hit and run as well as d- u-i. the man who broke out of police custody-- and led them on a four day manhunt appears in front of two separate judges this morning. the first for murder...and the second alongside his accomplice. judge- "mr. perez, is willing to waive his right to a 15-day hearing today on record?" perez- "yes ma'am." perez wore fingerless mittens under his handcuffs that were attached to his pants... and at least three officers escorted him to both his hearings. he is accused of fatally shooting 31-year-old mohammad robinson. perez broke out of a police interrogation room and was caught four days later. his next court date is set for september 28-th. bill clinton is set

greater las vegas area. i'm just really appalled at how this was handled by the clark county school district they could have handled it way better not to mention that the school district probably could have helped handled it better in the way they set it up. however they tried to answer questions and the parents would not allow them to do so. my daughter currently attends johnson junior high and i th a great job to just keep our children safe. jennifer responding to some of our callers last week who questioned what the big deal was about a mercury contamination.. who said: it used to be common to play with mercury. you know what else used to be common place? asbestos in buildings, lead in paint and not wearing seatbelts. guess what, over time we figured out all of those things are bad... times change folks! :
