live from las vegas it's time for fox5 news at 11. earlier this month -- we showed you video of how a murder suspect escaped out of handcuffs... and police custody. why this may have been a one-of-a- kind incident. more metro police officers will now have body cameras... and the department wants every officer wearing one by the end of the year. how it for. football fans want an n-f-l stadium in las vegas... but not everyone is thrilled about the proposal. we hear the pros and cons from economists. this is fox5 news at 11. local las vegas. you may remember earlier this month a murder suspect escaped from north las vegas police custody during an interrogration. i'm john huck. i'm christine maddela. and while we knew this was a rare escape when it happened... it turns out, this

one-of-a kind. fox5's miguel martinez valle sought out a local man who's an escape expert. he's live in the newsroom. the associated press reached out to law enforecemnt officials all over the country and they couldn't find anyone who has seen an escape like the one alonso perez pulled off when he broke out of his handcuffs. still one man i spoke to today says while this type of escape isn't likely... it's obviously not impossible < handcuffs> hancuffs are meant to keep people restrained... so how is it murder suspect alonso perez managed to break out of his... and make a run for it... north las vegas police studied the escape video and metro even re- enacted the handcuff break, trying to answer that very question... police didn't want to do an on camera interview with us, so in order to find out how difficult an escape like perez's

and survival expert doron benbenisty " we train the military, police departments, swat teams...." he runs a counter terrorism training school... he's also written books about escaping home invasions and captivity... including... how to get out of handcuffs... benbenisty studied perez' escape video... " you could see his expression, when he released, you could see he's in a lot of pain" he thinks perez went into that interrogation room with a plan. officers left him alone, so it turned into a literal perfect break for the murder suspect... " when you put force, times the length of his arm, times the this connection, eventually they got out and broke" bridge : "for obvious reason we're not going to show you how to break out of handcuffs, but benbenisty says while escapes aren't very common... there are multiple ways of breaking these" " no its not very common, unless people think about it and youtube it" north las vegas police already told fox5 officers plan to follow procedure to watch suspects at all times. benbenisty says that's the biggest deterrant to potential escapes. the two men confronted him at gunpoint... and went through the house for almost an hour. they tied him up with computer cables and electrical tape. "i'm scared as heck you know so i got a shotgun in my face. i never experienced anything like that in my life." "i got hit in head with butt of shotgun told to dont look at me shut up and look the floor." police say one of the men shot himself in the leg with his gun... and was dropped off at a hospital by his accomplice. he was later ar the second suspect took off. two students and a teacher were injured in a shooting at a school playground in south carolina. one of the students is in critical condition. police say the 14- year-old gunman did not enter the school... but opened fire on the playground. police believe the teen shot his father to death at a house not far from the school... before the playground shooting. a volunteer firefighter risked his life to stop the gunman... and he was taken

"i just prayed for their families, prayed for those kids. i thank god it wasn't mine but i feel so bad." "i'm just going to pray that they're ok and i don't know if they were my daughter's classmates or if they were somebody i knew i don't know. just feel so bad." officials say the six-year-old student in critical condition is jacob hall. the other child and teacher have been released from the hospital. school has been canceled for the rest of the week... and counselors are available for students. a suspect and two people of interest are wanted after a deadly shooting at an unlicensed club this past weekend. here's a look at surveillance video of the men. police say officers found a man with gunshot wounds outside a clothing store -- near decatur and craig. the back room was an unlicensed after-hours club. police say the victim had been in a physical fight with one or more people before being shot. he died at the hospital. police say they're also looking for a black 2004 to 2006 b-m-w six-series with black wheel and dark tinted windows. anyone with information on

public funds... that would come from anrease in the hotel room tax. but carroll says... owners and developers shouldn't ask the public to front an investment for the stadium. that's the real danger why does the public have to finace the investment for people that are already wealthy" if legislators vote in favor of the stadium, the project will create jobs, especially during the construction phase. and nearby businesses will benefit. activites near the stadium will gain, property values would go up, but if you draw activities from other places, property values and economic activity could go down elsewhere. he adds if the stadium succeeds... the owners will be the ones getting the payoff. "what you really need to do is sit back and say is this a good deal. and if it's such a good deal why does it have to be publically financed" developers argue the public funding portion will be

sixteen years after an accident left him paralyzed... a former indy car driver is back on the road. he's become nevada's first licensed driver of a semi-autonomous vehicle. "car screeching in circles" using a special... modified corvette-- "sam schimdt" can now drive on all nevada roads. his car uses four cameras that monitor his head and transmits his movements to the tires. he breathes in a tube to accelerate and sucks air out to brake. the company that made sam's car hopes the technology will be available to the public in the next five to ten years.
