" i really thought that i could get hurt, she could have shot me right

after my sister" allexis smith says she was sitting in class when another student started asking about her twin sister... " so i was just like why, i didnt wanna ask her any information" but the questions really turned alarming when the 14-year-old flashed allexis her gun... " she pulled out her backpack and she loaded a gun, she literally loaded a gun" moments later police arrested the 9th grader... allanis smith says it wasn't a moment too soon... " luckily she didn't make it past first period because she could have did something to me because i have a whole class with her" " she said yesterday the girl told her don't talk to her no more, and today she brought a gun and told the whole school that she had a gun for my daughter" the student arrested is in juvenile detention and is being charged with having a weapon on school property... but debra smith, the twins mom says the school needs to do more to keep her girls safe. " i'm ready to take my kids out the school, i knew i wasn't supposed to have them in that school anyway, because i was told that two kids got shot last year" clark county school district police say the school will decide what will happen with the student. as for the smith's,

police acted when they did... " something could have really happened to my baby, and i just thank god that it ended the way it did, and hte school was on top of it so that helped a lot too" police are still looking into where exactly the student got the gun. this isn't the first time we've seen violence in our school district... in fact this past week has been chock full of it. one of the main goals for ccsd police tonight... was keeping the peace after rival teams met on the football field. the school district beefed up security at local high school football games a week after the brutal high school brawl that took place at a north las vegas in-n-out and raising canes. fox5s vince sapienza spoke with parents and students at the shadow ridge and centennial football game .. and joins us lve near where last week's fights happened.. adam... cyndi... i'm told this is thee hangout for not just centennial high after football games, but arbor view and shadow ridge. ccsdpd tell me it has beefed up

(nats) prepping the snack shack as she does every week. the only difference was the message to her son earlier in the day. (nats) a high school brawl injuring multiple people. and it's this video that prompted ccsdpd to beef up security. at all the football games county wide. normally a minimum of six officers would patrol, but tonight i saw more than three patrol cars and a bicycle cop just at the front entrance alone. "very happy for that because of what happened the other night out there at canes and stuf would like to more security so nothing happens to our football players." students i spoke to say, they're happy to see extra precautions taken, but some don't think it will do much. "i feel like nothing is going to change a lot of people love the attention, love that spotlight on social media." others think it will be a wake up call. "the aftermath i think people recognize what they did was wrong, how it affected other people's live that wasn't in it." "were still all little kids going to a game, we should have enough sense to chill out." i spoke with one centennial family who says he's

"i don't care what school it is i don't want no kid to get hurt i want to everybody safe and go eat dinner afterwards and have fun." adam... cyndi i also spoke with school administrators from centennial tonight and they tell me even a week later, they are still just extremely disappointed that a few bad eggs can cause such a negative spotlight. won tonight... but as far as parents and school staff is concerned... a quiet night around here means everyone wins... in north las vegas i'm vince sapienza fox5 news. local.

how tall are you? how do we measure greatness in america? the height of our skyscrapers?
10:30 pm
it's measured by what we do for our children. the values we pass on. i've spent my life fighting for kids and families and it will be my mission to build a country where our children can rise as high as their dreams and hard work take them. that means good schools for every child in every zip code. college that leads to opportunities... not debt. and an economy where every young american can find a job we face big challenges, but we can solve them the same way families do. working together. respecting one another. and never giving up. i want our success to be measured by theirs.
