on any given friday i'm told there are at least 6 officers at any one football game.. give or take a few depending on the rivalry event etc. but tonight a bigger presence was felt with three patrol cars posted up at the front entrance alone. ccsdpd teamed up with metro to create a safer controlled night compared to the one we saw on social media a week ago. parents i spoke to were happy to see something being done "i don't care what school it is i don't want no kid to get hurt i want to everybody safe and go eat dinner afterwards and have fun." " she pulled out her backpack and she loaded a gun, she literally loaded a gun" moments later police arrested the 9th grader... allanis smith says it wasn't a moment too soon... " luckily she didn't make it past first period because she could have did something to me because i have a whole class with her" " she said yesterday the girl told her don't talk to her no more, and today she brought a gun and told the whole school that she had a gun for my daughter" the student arrested is in juvenile detention and is being charged with having a weapon on school property... but debra smith, the twins mom says the school needs to do more to keep her girls safe. " i'm ready to take my kids out the school, i knew i wasn't supposed to have them in that school anyway, because i was told that two kids got shot last year" clark county school district police say the school will decide what will happen with the student. as for the smith's, they're just happy police acted when they did... martinez-valle reporting. police are still looking into where exactly the student got the gun. tonight, us representative joe heck and former nevada attorney general catherine cortez masto faced off in a debate at canyon springs high school.. they are running to fill harry reid's u-s senate seat. during the hour long debate both candidates exchanged words.. but for the most part stayed civil. cortez-masto repeadedly brought up heck's support of donald trump before he recinded it last week.. "it is astonishing to me that for 8 or 9 months he was donald trump's biggest supporter." "so let's call this what it is, congressman heck is worried about his political career, donald trump's ship is sinking and congressman heck is scurrying off it in a desparate attampt to save his career." but heck came back .. saying his experience as a politician gives him the upper hand. they both also talked abou the government shutdown.. something both candidates were ready to answer.. the nevada legislature. the bill now heads toward final review from governor brian sandoval .. who has said he supports the plan. he will sign the bill monday .. here in las vegas. the state senate approved the bill as amended after both the senate and assembly passed it by at least two-thirds. it will raise hotel taxes in the las vegas area to help fund the stadium and a convention center expansion. governor brian sandoval released a statement about the vote. quote...
