it's likcrime was committed. and it happens to about 125 people in eastern iowa every year. they're told they have pancreatic cancer. 7 percent will live five years after that diagnosis. kwwl's jerry gallagher sat down with people who know the pain -- to learn what's being done to change the outcome... "you hope you're the one who's going to have your husband live, of 11 children... "he had a pretty good smile." his smile was brightest surrounded by family in jesup and... "thh farm was his love." ernie's life changed dramatically... "may 7th, 2012. it was my birthday. that's why i remember it exactly." he got the news. stage 4 cancer. "we had never heard of pancreatic cancer." like so many cases, ernie's pancreatic cancer wasn't detected until it was too late. "sometimes with breast cancer,

there's a lump... with all these pancreatic cancer, there's nothing." janie schimt did not have a lot of time. "it was probably the greatest memories we have." they celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in myrtle beach with the entire family. from there, lots of pictures, videos and kisses with into hospice care eight months after his diagnosis. "he said, 'i really want to make it to our 46th anniversary,' and i said, 'don't you dare.' he was in so much pain." ernie passed away a week later, leaving behind a loving family, a cherished farm and compassionate communities. "between jesup, raymond and gilbertville, everywhere i went janie feel good too. lining the streets of jesup, purple ribbons to raise awareness of a disease many feel does not get enough attention.

when it comes to what to serve the years, here in the test kitchen we've made almost every kind of pie tt you can that is impossible to resist. wewestart out by melting some squares of unsweetened chocolate with some sweetened condensed milk. once that's smooth, we stir in a bit of cornstarch that's been butter, and a pinch of salt. after everything is combined, we turn
