cloudy day ahead with a few mental evaluation tonight after she's accused undergoing mental evaluation tonight after she's accused of trying to take a 9 year old child from a local school bus stop. the incident happened monday morning at the corner of denver and 2nd in waterloo. the 9 year old was waiting for the school bus...just down the street from his home a young woman, in her early 20s, told his bus driver, that the boy needed to go with her. she told police she thought the boy needed help. kwwl's lauren moss speaking with us now live with the latest. amanda, the mother told me the young woman not only asked her son personal questions.. ...but lied to the bus driver saying she was his sister and she needed to take him with her. but, luckily, the boy spoke up...saying he had never met this woman before. and, that's when the bus driver called police, saying something just wasn't right.

approached the young boy, who was alone, waiting for his school bus ..just down the street from his waterloo home. when the school bus arrived.. the driver and monitor saw a woman talking to the boy. police say the woman was hallucinating- saying she thought the boy was her relative..that he was in trouble..hurt..and needed her help......but that was not the case at all... as you can angie gilbert-mother "my son made it on the bus. me really scared because what happens next time you know what if that child decides to go with that person.." police say the woman who allegedly tried to take the boy is in the hospital tonight going through mental evaluation. i spoke with chief dan trelka who says they are still investigating this situation. but because the woman told police she was worried that the boy was

charge her with anything at this time. and that's frustrating for angie. she says she's not upset with the waterloo police ...but she's upset with the law..and the fact that this woman will not be in trouble after lying and almost taking her son. i'm working on that story, for tonight at 6. we've got you covered, lauren moss ...kwwl news. police say the woman remains in the hospital tonight. we spoke with tara thomas of waterloo schools she says, the bus driver and monitor did the indicated there is no threat to the community. vandals hit the university of iowa...and they apparently hit with racist messages. now it's being looked at as a hate crime by the university police department. university president bruce harreld notified students last night. kwwl's kristin rogers spent the day at the university talking with students who are upset this happened on their campus.

and understandably so. university police tell me it all started when a concerned staff member called to report the vandilism... the university won't tell us what was said...but it was found carved on the inside of a bathroom door in spence laboratories. university police tell me as soon as they were notified by that staff member they sent maintence to sand off the comment as well as officers to investigate. (cg: uzair ahmed/ student) "i think with what the stand for thit type of negativity around campus and i think it shows this is not what the school is about this is not what the school represents." since the situation is being investigated as a hate crime i'm told charges could be pursued once the person behind it all is found. students made it very clear to me this is not something they stand for and it is not welcome on their campus.

former mayor tim hurley. kwwl's nikki newbrough is live in the newsroom. nikki you've been following this election closly. this election is going to be a close one. in november, quentin hart topped the field of five candidates with 34 percent of the vote. tim hurley came in second with 26 percent of the vote. hurley says this election hinges on two things, voter turnout and where those votes from the other candidates land. he says this election is important because of the direction he wants to take the city and get it back on track. he's running on his experience and hope voters see the positives things he's done throughout the city. as or quintin hart, he's stressing the importance of voting today saying people need to share what direction they'd like to see your community head in. he says it's a pivitol time for the city of waterloo. he claims he presents fresh, new leadership...but has experience
