votes are expected later this week -- before lawmakers leave washington for the holidays. right now, the government is set to run out of money tonight at midnight. but leaars are prepared to pass another short-term bill lasting a few days as they move to approve the larger bill. some lawmakers want background checks to include a look at social media -- when it comessto foreigners seeking u-s visas. they believe a social media check may have prevented the san bernadino shooting. nearly two dozen democrattc senators have written to the homeland secuirty secretary. republican senator john mccain has already introduced a bill in the senate and the house is working on similar legislation. many iowa police departments say they're prepared for a variety of threats. this is a look at the des moines police department's bomb squad 'if they find a device or if might be, something like that, we can really start following up on leads, then well also get our detectives involved, and the

a big surprise in the world of college basketball. wisconsin's bo ryan is retiring -- right now. the winningest coach in badger basketball history made that announcement last night after wisconsin knocked off texas a and m corpus chrisiti. several months ago -- ryan said he would step down after this season -- but there was some speculation he was re-thinking that decision. but that's not the case. in fact, he's stepping down effective immediately...
