they were the first to see the flames. kwwl's kristin rogers spoke to the family today and was able to actually take a look inside the home. kristin what was it like. absolute devistation. no one was home at the time, but the family has three children. aside from losing their belongings, all of their christmas presents are now gone as well.... destroyed... (cg: kristin rogers) "from the outside it doesn't appear inside is a different story." a hiawatha ambulance crew in the neighborhood for a medical call notice it first... (cg: juju smith/ paramedic & firefighter) "all of the sudden i look over and i saw this trailor that had smoke (cg: caleb fairlie/ firefighter & emt) "we kept banging on doors banging on windows making sure no one was inside." involved in a shoot out. the shoot out happened in the 600 block of linn street in waterloo earlier today. police respond to a call of shots fired just before noon. kwwl's jessica hartman was on police tell me - - people in a car and van fired multiple shots at each other before speeding off. here was the scene earlier today - - officers searching the area and finding several bullet casings. here you can see investigators marking a bullet hole in a backyard fence. the tri-county head start day care - - was on lock down during the incident. kentavia william's niece attends the school and she is frustrated by what she calls sensless violence.z "they are coming over here everyday to come try and learn and enjoy themselves. they have all this commotion and noice going on. bullets don't have no name so imagine if it had hit the wrong person."

there were no victims of stray bullets in this case. - - but the voilence needs to stop. at this point police do not know if anyone involved in the shoot out was injured. they are still working to identify the people involved. we've got you covered live in the newsroom...jessica hartman kwwl news. the tri-county head start said although the shooting happened during a time when children were coming and going - - their lock midamerican energy crews determined a gas leak lead to 10 mobile homes being evacuated was caused by a gas stove that was unhooked. a spokesperson with the company says no one was in the home crews are venting out the property. they also determined gas levels are at a safe level. no injuries were reported from the leak. someone is slashing tires...and

behind it all. over the past few weeks, multiple people have reported to waterloo police their tires have been cut. kwwls olivia mancino talking to a victim of this..she joins us now live sifting through police reports, it really is strange how random the damage is.. nearly a dozen acts of this vandalism have been reported all around the city, some at homes, others at businesses most recently at bj's bar in waterloo... two regulars at this bar have recently stepped forward saying their tires have been slashed ray pavelec says he was able to drive his car home from the bar, but when he got home it was deflated. thats when he knew he had a problem 'im glad i got it fixed, but i had to get a new tire...and that didn't make me too happy" and just across the street from bjs... the vgm group was having a holiday party in the electric park ballroom employees there say two people at their party had their tires cut as well

this incident.. police havent arrested anyone so police are advising to check your tires before you drive.. make sure you don't drive on a punctured tire because that could cause a lot of safety issues wweve got you covered live in the newsroom olivia mancino kwwl news...kwwl news. if you think you've seen anything or know anything about these incidents, please call police police arrest a man for allegedly stabbing his roommate after an argument about dirty dishes. the stabbing took place wednesday night at the east grand avenue apartments in des moines. when police arrived, they found a man with a stab wound to his lower back. the alleged stabber told police he stabbed his roommate in self- defense the victim was treated at a hospital for the non-life- threatening injury. more protests on the university of iowa -- once again, targeting president bruce harreld after controversial comments he is accused of making.

and here's a live look at doctor ben carson's town hall event in spencer. the event is being held at the maintenance hanger at the northwest iowa regional airport. carson was originally scheduled to appear in spencer november 20 but was forced to reschedule following heavy snow fall. doors are already open and the meeting kicks off at seven. and ohio governor john kasich was in ankeny wednesday where a woman asked him to describe a life event that shaped his values as a person. kasich explained it was the death of his mother and father, who were killed by a drunk driver. currently kasich is holding a town hall event in waterloo. the event is being held in the waterloo center for the arts. two iowans are honored today after saving a man from house fire last year. cory simonson and matthew tranel are two of 24 people honored with carnegie hero medals. they saved a man whose wheelchair got stuck while inside a house fire
