and i'm amanda goodman. thanks for joining us. the waterloo community continues to honor and remember moe sed, the teenager who was found dead in the cedar river just a few days ago. tonight students had a candlelight vigil to remember their fallen classmate. kwwl's brad hanson was there. (brad hanson, @bhansonkwwl) "more than 150 family, friends, students gathered outside of waterloo west, to honor moe sed. some knew him, some didn't. it candles are lit outside of waterloo west high school, to remember the classmate who's flame no longer burns bright. it's a loss many students are still struggling to comprehend. (diana buljubasic, waterloo west senior) "you wake up everyday, and you don't know. you don't know what will happen. you don't know, you a tragic loss. you never want to lose a young soul, especially in the community." organized a candlelight vigil. (joseph greemore, first baptist church pastor) "the students reached out to me and said would you be a part of the wasn't the school administration, it wasn't some city planners, but it was a couple of students who didn't have classes and know him real well, and said, we could still do something to honor the one have to know someone to do something nice, to give respect to the family." a sentiment well received by moe sed's family. "moe's mom and dad just love it. they love knowing that the community is praying for them and caring for them and taking their time to get together to support them." otherwise we will have sunshine and gusty wind. prepare for wind police are looking for who is behind it all. over the past few weeks, multiple people have reported to waterloo police their tires have been the city i spoke to multiple victims of this vandalism... needless to say they're not happy not only do they have to spend money on new tires, but they're scared something like this is going to happen again. now all they want is to find out who did this to them multiple people in waterloo are wondering who took a knife to their tires.. a grinch waging a war on wheels... take map police have received nearly a dozen reports of bar and billiards. "that didn't make me too happy" ray pavelec was none the wiser until he left the bar he filled it with air, and

that's when he knew there was a problem. ray "it was a real hassle to get it fixed and evverything" olivia "and he wasnt the only one who got his tires cut... another regular bar had their tires cut the very same night" pavelec is frustrated...but probably not as frustrated as alyssa adams. "i was livid" here's adams truck. all four tires were slashed... costing her nearly 12-hundred dollars. her roommates car was hit too. these marked squares on the tires is where her roommate patched in the holes. alyssa "i dont know, who does that? tonight" she can't come up with an answer for that. but she does have a pretty good solution in mind. alyssa "theres no monetary...piuunishment that will make them learn their lesson. i would want them to serve community service totaling the damage, just here is 12 hundred dollars. i know that

again ere are multiple victims here.. i spoke to some people from the again there are multiple victims here.. i spoke to some people from the vgm group in waterloo today they were having a holiday party at electric park ballroom over the weekend when two of their employees had their tires slashed as well. police are saying keep your eyes weve got you covered...olivia mancino...kwwl news if you have any information about this...please call police. a man and a woman who kidnapped and sexually abused two amish girls in new york last year were sentenced to life...plus a few hundred years. a federal judge sentenced stephen howells to 580 years in prison. his girlfriend...nicole vaisey... was sentenced to 300 years. they admitted in court they

exploited a total of six children. investigators say the children were drugged and recorded during sex acts. howells told the court the evil that he committed was his own. "i've seen a lot of nasty stuff. this was one of the nastiest cases i've ever seen, one of the it's a good thing we concluded it the way we did." his girlfriend said she was sorry... and wishes she could undo it... but she claimed she was a victim, too... who was being controlled by howells. midamerican energy crews determined a gas leak lead to 10 mobile homes being evacuated was caused by a gas stove that was unhooked. a spokesperson with the company says no one was in the home where the stove was disconnected, and crews are venting out the property.

levels are at a safe level. no injuries were reported from the leak. a start-up company in estonia believes they made a discovery that could change the future of the internet. researchers at velmenni say that they accomplished creating a technology capable of running internet one hundred times faster than traditional wi-fi. they call the technology discovery "li-fi" short for light fidelity. they report a number of benefits would come with their new technology including increased security. more protests on the university of iowa -- once again, targeting president bruce harreld after controversial comments he is accused of making. harreld said quote unprepared lecturers should be shot. protestors said those comments are unacceptable... even when meant rhetorically... considdring recent events in america. where there's so much gun violence directed in a variety of ways against so many people, it's just like the worst contextual moment to make such off the cuff remarks." protestors also staged what they called a performance peice to make their point... in which one student dressed as harreld himself. decision 2016...governor john kasich in waterroo, speaking to a group of about 70 people. he hit on topics ranging from women's health to syrian refugees. he focused on his record of balancing the budget during his tim in office in ohio. he also outlined his plan to balance the nation's budget, saying he would cut taxes which he says would spur economic development. russian president putin delivered his annual address to the nation, touching on issues from donald trump to syria.

it was as president putin was leaving his three- hour news conference, he made perhaps his most impactful comments. he was asked about donald trump. he described trump as colorful and talented person and as an absolute front-runner in the u-s presidential race. moscow is hoping that a new president in 2016 may offer country still suffering from serious economic problem, in part due to u-s sanctions over ukraine. president putin said he was open to proposals by the u-s to try to solve the syrian crisis though he insisted that he still wants to see president back to you. rival republican candidates began

after the news broke. jeb bush told reporters that quote, "to get praise from vladmir putin is not going to help donald trump". decision 2016... presidential candidate marco rubio took his feud with rival ted cruz to the campaign trail each candidate accused the other of intentionally misrepresenting their past views on how to handle undocumented immigrants currently in the u- s. rubio today flatly said that cruz has "not told the truth" about his past positions on a legalization process. two iowans are honored today after saving a man from house fire last year. cory simonson and matthew tranel are two of 24 people honored with carnegie hero medals. they saved a man whose wheelchair got stuck while inside a house fire in maquoketa. the medal is given to those who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree while saving or attempting to save the lives of others. coming up on kwwl...a family of
