"we are with out electricity for the weekend but that can be fixed." in the meantime the family is working to get generators running. at the right time. the family also wanted to thank the denver volunteer firefighters and the other emergency crews who responed on christmas. we've got you covered live in the newsroom---jessica hartman kwwl news. thank you jessica -- and crews were on scene for nearly two hours this morning -- containing the blaze. waterloo firefighters respond to an early morning apartment fire in waterloo. it happened in the 36-hundred block of ravenwood circle. here's a look at video from the scene this morning -- as crews responded a little after seven exhaust fan sparked the fire. at last word -- nobody was hurt -- and crews were on scene for nearly five minutes to contain the flames. a combination of rain and snow is in part of eastern iowa -- let's go to storm track seven meteorologist kyle kiel now for your first forecast. kyle? from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team. see the screen

stormtrack 7 weather team: that's right there is a winter weather advisory for the far northwest part of the kwwl viewing area. this is in effect after midnight for chickasaw, bremer, butler, black hawk and grundy counties for a wintry mix of rain and freezing rain, and potentially snow. however, accumulations will be fairly light. expecting a tenth of an inch or less in these areas, the better chance will stay to the north and west. here's the storm track 7 live doppler radar. mainly dry conditions across eastern iowa. there may be a couple flurries, but otherwise mostly cloudy with patchy fog. as we take a wider look across the region for travels, no major issues, but as you go to the west it's snow. future track tonight shows mainly cloudy skies with areas of

after midnight. there could be slick spots on christmas parties -- others are still trying to get home for christmas. kwwl's shirley descorbeth catches up with last-minute travlers at dubuque's regional airport -- and brings us the very latest. shirley? that's right...family members were waiting in anticipation for their loved ones. once they arrived...hugs filled 'tis the season for family gatherings -- even at the airport on christmas day. airport for their loved ones' planes to arrive. "my daughter's arriving from north carolina ....i haven't seen her since august....it's pretty exciting." connecting flights to and from chicago -- but people traveling from all over ...to eastern iowa. "we flew from from london to boston last week about a week ago and now we're here here hundreds of miles from places like north carolina...and los

cyber monday. shoppers are going for big post- holiday discounts -- and some plan to buy presents for next year -- and use gift cards they got for christmas. fedex customers take to twitter and facebook to complain about late deliveries. the company says it's doing everything it can to get shipments delivered by christmas, despite -- quote -- "slight delays." a spokesperson said the delays are due to heavier- than-expected last-minute shipments -- and severe weather outbreaks in some parts of the u-s. fed-ex express will run limited deliveries for packages that couldn't arrive on time. a lottery winner in iowa may have to return his 100- thousand-dollar prize. in late july -- jobie boals-watters went to collect his prize check -- claiming a co- worker bought him the ticket. the problem is -- the iowa lottery got a tip saying watters purchased the ticket when he was underage. the day watters came to the gas station and got the winning ticket -- the manager says watters showed a gambling.

enforced. and the good news is that this doesn't happen very often." he says he will appeal the decision -- saying all the money that comes from lottery -- is a good source of money for his business. a swisher homeowner calls police after finding a man asleep in his truck -- that was parked in his garage. moments later -- the man ran from the property -- and took a in custody. kwwl's hillary maglin reports the latest. a sign outside this house in swisher says welcome... home in their garage. forty-year-old tommy duffer of shellsburg is now after stealing a loaded handgun from a truck inside one home on amana road... he went inside another house on the street to hide from police. but that didn't stop duffer from stealing a laptop... clothing... a pickup truck... and two hundred dollars in cash from the home. police later booked duffer in the johnson county jail after they found him driving the stolen pickup truck in cedar rapids. but the handgun has yet to be found. we've got you covered -- hillary maglin -- kwwl news. duffer is charged with theft and burglary. bernie sanders plans to ring in the new year in iowa. the democratic presidential candidate will be hosting an event in des moines on new year's eve. the event is free and open to the public -- but you need to rsvp. it's at the renaissance des moines savery hotel. the program goes from seven to nine that night.

has its candidate for president. john macafee entered the white house race as a libertarian thursday. the 70-year-old cyber-security pioneer is known for his popular computer anti-virus software. he originally planned to run for the highest office under his own cyber party to, quote, "disrupt the political status quo." but he says a representative from the libertarian party contacted him tuesday about representing their party. there are 16 major presidential candidates this primary season -- many of them you likely know. but here's a 17th candidate you probably don't -- who is drawing a lot of attention. when democratic presidential candidate rocky de la fuente opened his doors for a holiday party inside his new west des moines home -- he had visions of santa, trees, and bright lights. (officer) "we have had complaints about the trailer and city ordinance, you know, we have to take the proper steps." police say rocky is in violation

yellow tonight for the potential for a light wintry mix over our northwestern counties. most of us to the southeast will be dry tonight. we all get in on a chance for at least scattered rain throughout the day on saturday. then sunday will be mostly cloudy as we track another storm system that could bring significant impacts into early next week. here's the winter weather advisory. it's in effect that's right there is a winter weather advisory for the far northwest part of the kwwl viewing area. this is in effect after midnight for chickasaw, bremer, butler, black hawk and grundy counties for a wintry mix of rain and freezing rain, and potentially snow. however, accumulations will be fairly light. expecting a tenth of an inch or

chance will stay to the north and west. here's the storm track 7 live doppler radar. mainly dry conditions across eastern iowa. here's a wider view of the satellite and radar. area of low pressure in colorado is what we will be tracking as our next weather maker. it will open up as an open wave to our south, and that's where most of the precipitation will stay. there's snow to our northwest, causing some issues in the dakotas and nebraska, as well as northwest iowa. here's the current temperatures across the area. right now we are all sitting below freezing. temperatures will hold steady and slowly rise throughout the overnight. here's the storm track 7 live weather network. mostly cloudy with patchy areas of fog possible

a bit in our western counties, but has improved quite a bit from where it was earlier this afternoon. here's a look at future track. we will have areas of patchy fog this evening. the wind will pick up overnight, which will take the fog away. as we go through the overnight, we will mainly be dry, then we will see areas of patchy drizzle area. we will continue with that slight chance for a wintry warm above freezing. the rain ends tomorrow night, and we will holding steady in the 20s and 30s. for tomorrow, cloudy skies with a light wintry mix early in the day, otherwise everything will change volunteers are coming together to hel victims of a rare round of winter tornados. those storms killed at least 14 people in mississippi, tennessee, and arkansas. clean-up efforts continue today
