tom costello is following the developments. tom, good morning. >> they have brought in a giant crane to help free 17 miners who have been trapped y'all night below the cayuga salt mooin 50 miles south of syracuse, new york. we're told they've managed to get several of the miners out. they're lowering the basket and lifting them out two or three at a time. they became trapped at about 10:20 last night when they were headed down to the mine floor about 2,300 feet below ground to begin their overnight shift. despite overnight temps in the teens the at the surface of the mine, the mine operator cargo says none of the trapped miners is injured and rescue workers have been able to lower down water, heat packs, and blankets to keep them all warm. unclear how long this operation might take to lift all of them out, but, again, we're hearing some of them already up. sash na,

basketball team is sending shock waves through the community. >> three players charged in the case. now, school officials are calling off the rest of that team's season, as parents of the alleged victims demand further action. >> reporter: a season cancelled and a community in crisis. three tennessee high school students are now facing charges of aggravated rape and aggravated assault for brutal leged attacks on teammates during a hazing ritual. according to members of the ooltewah high school basketball team, four underclassman players were physically assaulted on december 22nd in a cabin where the team was s4aying during a tournament. one of those students, according to the victim reports, was also sexually assaulted with a pool cue, receiving worse treatment because he spoke up to three of the players carrying out the attacks. the alleged d tackers, two sophomores and one senior, have been kicked off the team, suspended from school, a charged. two are in custody.

final award of the night. as the golden globes go on, they do present clips of all the nominated movies. she was supposed to come up and read the nominees off one last time, and then open the envelope and announce the winner. she started opening the envelope before reading off the nominees. everyone thought she was going to announce the winnnn prematurely. dick clark had to explain to her what to do. then she announced. >> in her defense, you know from doing the live shows, unless you do this, y y have to knono to go out there. there's an order and it's not easy to get it right. >> it's unpredictable. not easy. >> not at all. >> remember the golden globes when t tre was no golden globes? >> oh, do i remember. i was on nbc with billy bush and nancy odell, nbc special, where we announced the winners and did commentary. it wasn't the highest rated golden globes. >> it was a writers strike. >> the writers strike killed the golden globes. none of the stars were going to show up.

conference thing where some entertainment reporters read off the winners. as i said, nbc did a special. here's what i hate, this was the only time jon hamm won a golden globe for "mad men," and there was no ceremony for him to show up to and make a speech. the golden globes never give it to you unless you're a new show. >> jodie foster and her speech two years ago, she won the life achievement award. she's so private so we didn't know what she was going to talk about. she was revealing and personal. she had a brilliant moment. youpfelt like she was going to come out, i amoud and proud, i am single! everybody started laughing. she directed a movie since with george clooney and julia roberts this summer "money monster." acted.
