area a ithin the next couple of around. temperatures managed to stay above zero last night with temps hovering around 10 this morning and not much affect from the wind.. they are staying calm to around 5 mph... they will be mainly southerly today and that will help get us into the low to mid 20s over most of the kwwl viewing area. we keep the "warmer" temperatures the rest of the forecast, but there are a couple of chances of snow . i'll have new details this morning about a deadly crash in eastern iowa. three people died last night -- and two others were hurt. the crash happened on highway 63

that's south of new hampton. here's a picture from the new hampton chickasaw county tribune. the iowa state patrol says bertha smith -- from waterloo -- did not yield to a semi. they crashed into each other. latorris duffie, keith demry and devin gordin all died. all three were in their twenties. authorities say they were not wearing seat belts. smith and another person were taken to the hospital. the semi driver was not hurt. this morning, a campaign volunteer for ben carson is being remembered as a bright young man. the volunteer was killed yesterday in a crash in western iowa. braden joplin was in a van -- with other carson volunteers. the van flipped on an icy road and was hit by another vehicle. it happened near atlantic, iowa. carson was campaigning in south carolina at the time -- and has suspended all of his events to "braden joplin was an amazing young man. i had an opportunity was

joplin. volunteers were treated and released from the hospital after the crash. this morning, investigators are trying to figure out what caused a deadly fire. the crawford county sheriffs office says two sisters were killed in that fire. trinity. lena was 12. her sister was 15. that fire happened in wauzeka, wisconsin -- about 20 miles outside prairie du chein. neighbors say someone driving by noticed smoke coming out of the home monday night. they tried getting inside to "the house behind me is fully engulfed in flames and pretty much beyond the point of saving." authorities say the girls were home alone -- their parents were at work at the time of the fire. a huge apartment fire in philadelphia is now under

it took crews about two hours to knock it down. two firefighters were hurt -- but they should be ok. an arrest is made in an eastern iowa bank robbery. police say the suspect had a fake gun. authorities say a witness told them someone with a gun held up the u.s. bank on william street in iowa city. police say they later found the suspect, clifton brinkmeyer, and a fake, plastic gun. he's being charged with second degree robbery. parents, students and staff are hoping for a more typical school day at iowa city west. yesterday, classes were shut down because of a bomb threat. police officers and k9's checked out the high school -- as students were bussed to the hawkeye tennis and rec center. we heard from students about "everyone listen up, listen up, listen up, he said it like five threat to our school, we didn't know what kind of threat, but just a threat and everybody was to get their coats and meet in the gym." from there students tell us they

was a bomb threat. the building was cleared after a search. the bomb threated affected the voting for a special election. west high was a polling site. here are the results of that election. lisa green- douglass will be the next johnson county supervisor. she'll fill terrence neuzil's seat. he left the board after taking a job in michigan. the county was required to hold the election no matter what -- so they learned about the bomb threat -- since i've been auditor, probably the ffrst time where a bomb threat has caused this. polling sites, and they've had to relocate." people then voted at the athletic hall of fame on prairie meadow drive in iowa city. just 12 days away now from the iowa caucuses. donald trump -- in a tight race here -- is now being endorsed by justifiably so. you know, they they need to get use to it. this

your basic abcs. anybody but clinton. it's more than that this go around. the former alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential nominee stood by trump at a rally in amexs. she praised him as someone who has shaken up the republican party. she's expected to be with him today at a campaign event in norwalk. as palin was in iowa, her son was being arraigned on domestic violence charges. track palin was arrested monday night in alaska. he's accused of punching and kicking his girlfriend. he's been charged with assault. he was released after posting bail. a decision by governor branstad could have a ripple effect on caucus night.

senator -- and fellow republican ted cruz -- and says neither should you. branstad is a clear supporter of the renewable fuel standard -- which is a boost for iowa's ethanol market. cruz has been asked repeatedly about whether he supports it. he says he's not in favor of washhngton picking winners or "i believe that it would be a but the only poll that counts is the one they take on caucus kwwl political analyst chris larimer says it shouldn't be surprising that branstad and cruz stand on differeet sides of "it has the potiential to affect really banking on, at this point, probably a first place finish in iowa to give him momentum toward going into new hampshire the following week." larimer says this could affect voters who are still undecided at this point. senator cruz had this tosay about the governor's comments. it is no surprise the

mode. we said from the beginning that the washington cartel was going to panic more and more... a reporter asked cruz what he thought of iowa's corn growers -- and the r-f-s. cruz said he thinks corn growers are wonderful people who now to the democrats -- and new information about hillary clinton's emais. an inspector general says some of her e-mails had information classified top secret -- special access program. that would include some of the most closely held u-s intelligence information. she's been under fire for using a privvte email server as secretary of state. but her campaign and the state department deny that any information was mishandled -- and say the information in question was classified only ater she received it. she's in a very close race right now with senator bernie sanders in iowa. sanders is back on the campaign trail in iow. he dismissed clinton's claims that she'd be the strongest general election candidate against a

the california highway patrol says jamie foxx and another good samaritan helped pull a driver from a burning truck this week in california. they broke a ndow and cut the seat belt to pull the driver out the truck.
