state university that killed a student. police say 23- year-old benjamin clague is the driver of the cyride bus that hit 18-year-old emmalee jacobs from urbana, who was a freshman at the time. it happened in a crosswalk on ash avenue on december 14, just after seven am. clague is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death. police say clague's behavior was out of the ordinary the day of the crash. at his very next stop he got out and walked around the bus in the rain. our understanding is that he doesn't normally do that and so again, we put all these things together. officers also used follow-up interviews, and forensic evidence to nail down clague as a suspect. kwwl's kristin rogers is in center point, that's where emmalee graduated high school and grew up going to church. kristin you spoke with emmalee's long time pastor, but you also spoke

that's right, i asked brad jacobs over the phone today about the arrest and he told me quote, it stirs up more feeling and sorrow that the person didn't come forward and police had to find them. for more than a month, many have struggled with the unanswered question -- who hit emmalee jacobs on that december center point urbana high school in the spring before heading to iowa state." her principal tells me the arrest is something they've been waiting for. emily mensen - wrote a letter to the then unknown driver - - asking for answers. in the letter she states "if you do know that you hit emmalee and you left the scene, i bet you are scared." police - now saying benjamin clague did know - - and that has mensen wondering what if he had stopped? "you can't help, but do so. i would like to think that she would be still recovering, but she would have a fighting chance and emmalee was a fighter." mensen says she is glad to see emmalee finallly get some justice. continuing coverage on a bomb threat that sent thousands of eastern iowa students home. classes were canceled at iowa city's west high school after a bomb threat was called in tuesday morning. the phone call delivering the threat was described as a computerised, robotic voice. police are now looking for possible connections between this bomb threat and similar

that same day. a man is arrested for breaking into a waterloo bar-and smashing poker machines and police say a security system alerted them all about it. this happened monday around 3 a.m. police say 28 year old charles stocks jr. broke into parks road inn- bashing three video poker machines with a hammer- steals some cash- and then takes off. he doesn't get far though- police say they found him moments later, outside the bar with a hammer and cash on him. stocks jr. is facing burglary charges. kwwl's lauren moss speaking with the bar owner today- and lauren he is hoping others will learn from this- his bar is not to be messed with. well that's right..because the bar is decked out with cameras and alarm systems. the owner tells me- it's easy..if you break it...you'll get caught. and that's exactly what happened monday around 3 a.m. take a look at this video-

swinging away at a poker machine. police say he smashed three machines-in a short period of time at park road inn. the owner tells me..this is like a very close eye on it... "as soon as they get in the door, the alarm is going off and they don't have very much time before police get here. the police probably had him in less than 3minutes.." police say- they found stocks jr. with a hammer and cash on him- he was right outside the bar when police arrived. rick tells me nothing else was missing- just some cash from the poker machines which have since been repaired. it's also important to point out- waterloo police responded to two other burglaries on monday. they say a video poker machine was also smashed- at vic's lounge in waterloo- so police are investigating if stocks jr. was behind those break-ins as well. we've got you covered, lauren moss kwwl news. stocks jr. is facing third-degree burglary charges. he has since

released from the black hawk county jail. prosecutors withdraw a plea offer for a young man accused of killing two teenage girls in a crash in sac county. 19-year-old trevor feauto is charged with vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated. the plea offer was withdrawn because relatives of the victims say the deal didn't provide adequate justice. seven people are dead following three accidents across the state of iowa yesterday. it started tuesday morning when two people collided near atlantic. the iowa state patrol says a car lost control and struck a pickup. the driver of the car and her passenger were both pronounced dead at the scene. the pick up driver was taken to the hospital. a second fatal accident also took place near atlantic - this one involving volunteers from doctor ben carson's

the victim was 25-year-old braden joplin. he and three others were in the van at the time --when they hit a patch of ice -- flipped on the side and were hit by another car. doctor carson canceled all of his remaining campaign events yesterday so he could be with the victim's family. the final accident took place just south of new hampton on highway 63. three people were killed and two others were hurt in the crash here's a picture from the new hampton chickasaw county tribune. the iowa state patrol says bertha smith -- from waterloo -- did not yield to a semi - and her car was hit. latorris duffie, keith demry and devin gordin all died. all three were in their twenties. a boil order is in effect for an eastern iowa town. according to a garrison city clerk, a boil order is in effect for

the boil order is due to a water heidi cruz, the wife of republican candidate ted cruz, stopped by the kwwl studios today for an upcoming segment of the steele report, along with congressman, steve king. she said he's sticking to his convictions when i asked her "government should not be picking winner and losers. and when people understand that and when tedd has been working with the private sector here in iowa to make resolutions. there's a lot of good buz from that and i think any distraction from that is running really, really strong. ted cruz favors a 5 -year phaseout of rfs...but she thinks her husband will win iowa on february 1st.
