for presidential candidates. in hopes of getting students to be amongst those voters - - one local university is holding a mock caucus. kwwl's jessica hartman joined u-n-i students as they gathered to learn what they call - - the secrets - -of the caucus process. its a cold, snowy night - - but many uni students didn't let that stop them from taking steps towards exercising their voices. "the caucus process is a little bit complicated." it's that confusion organizers are hoping to clarify sure our generation has a voice in politics, is to make sure they know what they are doing." one of the biggest points of the night. the steps to electing delegates - - first as republicans and then as democrats. some students realized just what kind of difference they can make. her toddler is sentenced to 25 years in prison. 22-year-year-old mireya balderas, of iowa city, entering a plea on child endangerment charges. her then 20-month old son -- marcus-- died in 2012. autopsy results show he died of blunt force trauma. balderas' former boyfriend --23-year- old jorge perez was sentenced to 50 years in prison last year for his role in the death. a 38-year-old man is killed after crashing into a business with a five-year-old girl in his back seat. here's a look at the aftermath of the crash in clermont. authorities say 38-year-old james tacket died at the scene -- and they say alcohol may have been a factor. the young girl was taken to the hospital but is believed to be

daughter of tacket's girlfriend. local volunteers coming together today to clean up the damage. the owner of the business says the death is tragic, but she's chris larson- resale therapy owner in the three years that i have great, they are not only supportive of the business but they were here to help." larson says she is hopeful to reopen by the end of this week. meanwhile -- the crash remains under investigation. an iowa man who attacked a woman with a hammer is sentenced to two years in prison. 33-year-old abraham stone pleading guilty to domestic abuse. stone choked the woman and hit her with a hammer in newton in last november. she suffered minor injuries in

stone was originally charged with attempted murder but that charge was lowered in a plea deal. an iowa family looking for answers tonight. their daughter is battling cancer--and is on a very strict drug maintenance program. but when they went to pick up her chemotherapy drugs--they ran into one hurdle after another. malorie maddox has the story tonight..

specialty pharmacy says she didn't answer all of the questions. this was news to her. makayla says at this point she was frustrated -- but the pharmacy promised to sort it out and asked her to come back later that day. thru because that's all i needed and they told me they still a reason as to what the hold up was? nope. still don't know34:05> desperate--at this point--makayla started calling around to find somewhere to fill her daughter's chemotheraphy prescription. u-n-m-c was immediately able to help. makayla is speaking out--she says there should never drugs.

damage -- including collapsing the roof of this church in maryland. fortunately nobody was injured in the collapse -- but clearly a lot to clean-up. two police officers are injured after being hit by a drunk driver. police say the 22-year-old woman struck the police cruiser on the highway in columbus, ohio. you can see some of the damage to the vehicles here. the officers injuries are not believed to be serious. at last check --the other driver was in stable condition. a driver leads police on a chase without tires on his car. you can see the driver here on the road in texas. police laid down spikes causing the tires to fall off -- but he kept going -- riding on the rims -- until his engine blew. police then surround him and force him out of the vehicle. he did fight back but authorities were eventually able to take him
