our coverage into the floods of 20-16 continues tonight -- with a live look on a much calmer cedar river tonight from our cedar rapids skycam. the river -- dropping below flood stage since it's second-highest crest last week. here's an overhead view on downtown and the swollen river with the kwwl drone at the height of the flooding. cedar rapids--conting protection plan--something that's been in the works since the flood of 2008-- but the plan--not satisfying everyone-- kwwl's kristin rogers joining us live from downtown cedar rapids with more--kristin? well the city's plan requires green space along certain parts of the river-- which means buyouts. the city--already removing many of the homes we are talking about-- since 2008-- but they say--there will

along ellis boulavard-- people still enjoy riverfront property-- while some in cedar rapids--were a part of buyouts after the 2008 flood-- the city--turning their homes along the river into greenspace--driveways can be found--leading to nowhere. some current homeowners--worried--t elling us off camera--they don't intend to leave their homes-- several of them hanging pirate flags last week-- to symbolize being on barriers- "we're not going to be probably approaching them for a better part of a decade." the mayor says although there will be future buyouts--in order for permanent flood protection-- they will be optional.. "our hope is to negotiate a sale price with all of these properties that are going to be on the wet side but again it's not a mandatory sale, the city is not

all out earlier today, she joins us now live in the studio with more, lauren and they are very impressive. from helping others to the importance of proper hygeine..these 5th graders are on the fast track to becoming young gentlemen. volunteers adam bolander and kevin grieme meet with 10 students, teaching them a new lesson every week. they say the school was in desperate need for mentors up this 10 week program to help teach multiple boys the importance of being a gentlemen. from proper hygeiene to respect- these boys are learning it all.. take it from cameron- he says he has learned a lot so far. you should be doing your school work instead of messing around because education is everything, education is power. local businesses are also helping out the program- their polos that
