continuing coverage -- a funeral will be held today for one of the two iowa police officers killed on the job. services will be held for des moines police sergeant anthony beminio at the lutheran church of hope in west des moines. a funeral for urbandale officer justin martin will be held tomorrow in his hometown of rockwell city. blue lights are shining in central iowa neighborhoods to show support for police. organizers with project blue light were in des moines to pas light bulbs for people to shine on their porches. the creator of the group is former police officer from mason city. he says he wanted to show police community members care... one person is dead and five hurt following a car crash in cedar falls. police say cynthia brooks of waterloo died in the crash on highway 57 over the weekend. she was 38. the driver of the car and two other passengers had to be taken to the hospital -- one was airlifted to u-i-h-c.

to a hospital. police say there's video of the crash from a nearby traffic camera -- that they're looking at. no charges have been filed. a building used as storage for the cedar falls police department -- is destroyed in a fire. as kwwl's taylor bailey -- many rushed to see the fire, fearing it would spread. billowing smoke making it difficult to see firefighters battle a fire -- taking over much of the "when you see that much smoke that close to home, you're gonna check it out" authorities confirm a city building used for storage caught fire before eleven o- clock sunday morning. witnesses say they believe it's used to keep confiscated property. "you couldn't see much except smoke""oh it was just, it had the sun completely blocked out" stand-up "people in the area tell me they

"my first thought was that is was viking pump right ajacent to these buildings and my dad worked at viking pump for many years, fortunatley it wasn't viking pump" people who saw the smoke were concerned for friends who live in downtown apartments and immediately responded to see if any other buildings were affected. fortunately for firefighs problems downtown, over my years i've seen many bad fires downtown, we don't need another one" that was taylor bailey reporting. police say lost bicycles were stored in the shed -- along with evidence in cases -- like cars.

happened during an annual pumpkin chunkin contest in delaware. police say the air cannon was about to launch when the trap door separated. the door and other parts were blasted into the air -- hitting a woman in the head and face and the hospital where a woman is in critical condition and a man is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. beaten to death after a weekend bachelor party toronto police say a maryland man was beaten and kicked in the head outside a bar early saturday. police say the attack was an unprovoked homicide and are looking for two suspects. the victim was a close friend of the groom and was engaged to be married himself. inmates take over part of a prison. a union representing the prison officers in england called it a "serious incident." extra prison officers from across the country were called in to help get things under control. according to the union, the officers will deal with it

crash. police spotted a car they believed to be stolen speeding -- and described the driver as possibly armed. the driver nearly slams into several cars on the streets. the chase also taking place on freeways. it ends when the driver slams into a divider. police took the driver into custody. accused of faking her pregnancy -- a woman is upset with walmart security. she says as she left the new mexico her. the employee asked her if she was pregnant -- then asked to anything. "i've never heard of this that they didn't even take me into a room.. the woman says she filed a police report. she also spoke with a manager of that walmart who apologized after watching the surveillance video. walmart issued a statement saying they were

killed in ambush- style attacks last week. a funeral for urbandale officer justin martin is scheduled for tomorrow. we're waiting to learn just how much damage there is following a five- point-oh magnitude earthquake in oklahoma -- that was felt by some people in iowa. downtown cushing had to be blocked off so crews could look at damage. city leaders say a few people had minor injuries. leaders of the town of cushing says damage appears to be contained to downtown. an election just a day away -- the candidates are busy criss-crossing the country. donald trump will be in florida, north carolina, pennsylvania and new hampshire today. he was in iowa yesterday. clinton has multiple stops in pennsylvania -- and will also visit michigan and north carolina. politics in the workplace -- starbucks ceo howard schultz is urging his employees to embrace "respect and dignity" in the face of an "epic, unseemly election." schultz has publicly endorsed

but the letter, obtained by cnnmoney, does not suggest starbucks employees vote for a particular candidate on election day. instead, schultz wrote that he feels "a bit anxious" about the pending election, and asked his employees to share "kindness, compassion, empathy" and love. tomorrow -- voters in five states will decide whether they want to legalize marijuana. that includes california. house minority leader nancy pelosi told the l-a times she plans to vote in favor -- making her the highest- ranking, sitting elected official in either major party to k drug the federal government currently considers a schedule 1 narcotic. there's no need to count the votes of many major retailers...who've already made a big decision about this year's holiday shopping season. as chris clackum tells us -- some are already starting their black retailer...amazon.. is among those no longer waiting for the single- day shopping bonanza.. numbers in key district races as a way to possibly flip control of the state senate. this session democrats held a narrow 25 to 23 majority in the senate -- while republicans held a 57 to 43 lead in the house. a kid's perspective... with election day almost here -- we decided to speak with kids -- to see what they've learned about the candidates. kwwl's amanda gilbert is live from a waterloo middle school. hoover middle school say the election is a big topic brought up in some of their classes... a big word some of the students are using: bullying... they tell me they don't like how the two candidates are treating each other. many saying they wish the two candidates talked more about their policies and what they would do as president. controversy over a church bulletin. an article written by a pastor at a catholic church in san diego suggests the devil is said it's a mortal sin to vote democrat... "this is an egregious violation, protesters gathering outside the church this weekend -- arguing it's not the church's place to weigh in on politics. long lines to vote early. hundre lasting hours. a record five- point-one-million voters are registered in l-a county. breaking news this morning: janet reno -- the first woman to serve as u-s attorney general -- has died. she died from complications of parkinson's. reno was one of the clinton administration's most recognizable and polarizing figures. she ran for governor in florida, but lost in 2002.

morning, eastern iowa police officers are on their way to des moines to show support for murdered officers. a funeral will be held today for tony beminio -- a sergeant with the des moines police department. urbandale officer justin martin's funeral is tomorrow. officers from waterloo plan to attend today's service... love and support for another brother better than to go there and be there for his family, for his this" across eastern iowa -- officers have been showing their support by wearing bands on their badges. a georgia deputy is dead and another in critical condition after being shot. he and another deputy were responding to a dispute. authorities say the suspect opened fire at both deputies when they arrived. "they get out. they walk aymbe 10, 15 yards or so. and they came under fire. they were both struck and they went down right there."

a waterloo home is damaged in a fire. firefighters responded to the 300 block of california street yesterday morning. investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen -- saying there was extensive damage to the kitchen and living room. the safely. the cause remains under investigation. jury selection begins today in the trial of a man accused of killing ni church. investigators say roof told a friend he planned to kill people at the historic black church in charleston to start a race war. the jury pool has been narrowed to more than 500 people who live today, a man will be sentenced for a shooting spree inside the los angeles international airport. a federal security agent died in the shooting three years ago. a man pleaded guilty to 11 charges. he faces a mandatory life sentence.

found chained. south carolina deputies say human remains were found in one of two places the suspect pointed to as gravesites. kala brown was found chained in a metal container on the property on thursday. her boyfriend's body was found on friday. investigators say the suspect -- todd kohlhepp -- also confessed to a quadruple homicide that happened 13 years ago in south carolina. four people were murdered at a person. and i hope to god that he gets what's coming to him, but i hope that he's sorry for these years." family members say they're grateful to everyone involved in the investigation and are relieved to have answers. two people have been killed in severe weather. a tornado and flooding hit italy -- in and around rome.

near rome. someone else was injured when they were slammed by the wind against a window. the river that runs through florence also flooded. you could feel the entire house sway. that's how someone in oklahoma described an earthquake -- which was also felt as far away as iowa. the magnitude five quake rattled central oklahoma last night. it shattered windows and brought down pieces of buildings in cushing. that's about 50 miles from oklahoma city. c for this morning to talk about the damage. some minor injuries have been reported. the city manager in cushing says -- this is beginning to become the new normal. quite a sight in a busy dubuque neighborhood. a huge sinkhole caused by a water main break. crews worked for hours over the weekend to fix the problem. no one was injured. we spoke with a woman who was

heard this sound behind me and the street collapsed and it kept collapsing." after that, she called police. good news here -- she's okay and no one is injured. a kwwl follow-up this morning. a gas pipeline up and running again -- following a deadly explosion. the pipeline moves gasoline from the gulf coast to new york city. it was knocked off-line last week -- when investigators say excavation equipment hit the pipelinen alabama - killing one person and injuring four others. it could take several days for it to get back to normal. protests continue against a pipeline that would run through iowa. people in north dakota gathered at a cemetery to protest. police say there were two groupsthere. one group against the idea of putting a pipeline through cemeteries -- they say it's their ancestor's burial ground. the other group in support of the project. the rally shut down roads -- but no one was arrested..

they say crews have left behind debris and disrespected their land. complaints have been filed -- but supporters say -- they're not major problems. a civil engineer says a lot of the complaints are not violating any construction agreements. happening today -- the waterloo city council is being asked to hire a firm to design changes to university avenue. the city council is being asked to approve a two- point-eight million dollar contract for construction on university between midway drive and highway 63. approved taking control of the street from the iowa d-o-t. the city is receiving money from the state to help pay for the project. its coming up -- an eastern iowa family now has a new home. plus -- delay of game. there's a squirrel on the field. the forecast from storm track seven meteorologist eileen loan is up next.

a rodent in the end zone stopped play during the packers colts game. it made the most of its time on the n-f-l stage. security and others try to catch up to it. some frustrated fans said the squirrel had spent more time in the end zone than the packers had. they packers lost to the colts -- 31 to 26. the celebration continues for the chicago cubs -- the chicago blackhawks doing some redecorating on the ice to honor some of the players bringing the commissioner's trophy to the game -- the blackhawks have brought lord stanley's cup to wrigley field a few times, only fair for them to repay the favor. a tight game for the blackhawks -- they eventually win over the dallas
